To everyone viewing this, we want you to know that effective Dec. 2014 my husband and I recently purchased Doc Able's Auto Clinic, Inc. and want to earn our neighbor's trust everyday by providing excellent service at a reasonable price.

.

My experience with Doc Able's Auto Clinic was a little different. Mr. Steve G. (the owner) listed a car "for a friend-a retired police officer" on ebay. I bought the car, drove four hours to pick it up, and he wasn't even there. He told me on the phone that the garage looked the car over from top to bottom and it was in perfect mechanical condition, safe to put my kids in and to drive the four hours back home. I have text messages and other documentation to prove it.

We had minor "bumps" on the way home, but nothing to indicate the major amount of issues with the car. I took it to a trusted garage my family has used for decades, who told me that there were around $2000 dollars worth of work, $900 that needed to be taken care of immediately for the safety of the vehicle, and he let me drive that piece of crap home with shot brake pads! The garage I took it to told me they were shocked that I even got it home after they'd looked at it. It also needs tires, which he told me were replaced less than 20,000 miles ago. He won't provide any documentation of any "work" previously done on the car at all.

When I contacted him after I'd already put money into the car, and paid the tax/title/license, and traveling expenses, he told me I could bring it back...at my own expense. I am a small town girl, I was naive, and was taken advantage of by Steve & Doc Able's. He talks in circles and keeps everything as vague as possible to try and cover up his lies. He swore at me, yelled, called me names, and told me I was trying to extort him. I was trying to extort him?! What the heck?!?! I have never been taken to court and I have never taken anyone to court. I am not the extortionist in this situation.

Long story short, I have contacted the police department in his area, I am contacting the FBI internet crime division, the state's attorney, and will be contacting a lawyer. We will be contacting the BBB, NAPA, and Evanston Chamber of Commerce, as well. We are a military family and will also be contact the local military public affairs office and staff judge advocate's office to place his business on the list of establishments "black listed" so to speak, from the military, so military families are warned of his scamming. My fiance just came back from Afghanistan protecting our freedoms, only to get scammed by a extortionist that doesn't care about anything but lining his pockets.

If anyone wants to contact me to help me shut this place down, I would certainly appreciate the help. They have stolen from enough people. You can email me at CloseDocAbles@yahoo.com with your story, any documentation you have, and contact info and I will make sure it gets to every interested agency. Maybe we can get some justice in the world instead of just writing bad reviews, (although that helps, too!)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To give an example of this character....

My fiance called him after we got the estimate to try and reasonably work something out before things went any further. In their conversation, we told him that leaking fluids were just one of the issues with the car. He asked, "Are they seeping or are they leaking, because seeping is more a matter of opinion and doesn't need to be replaced right away. There is a difference between the two." In a response to another bad review listed on yelp (which I have copied to my computer, printed out, and taken a screen shot of- just in case he decides to delete it), he states the following on 11/12/2013:

"Hi Judy, I appreciate your feed back. It is shop policy to bring any seepage or leakage to the clients attention and recommend repair. Seepage is the first sign of a leak. A leak can happen at any time once seepage sets in. Without the proper amount of fluid the system it is intended to lubricate or cool it will fail! Our 97 point safety inspection is not only designed to find immediate safety issues if they are present, it will also find future problems so they can be corrected in a more manageable way. All recommendation are based off your vehicles manufacture guidelines and our ASE training."

This man tried to intimidate us and try and get us to back down, but that isn't going to happen. The worst evil in the world is when good people that can do something choose to do nothing.

I cringe every time I drive by this place. First off, I find it hard to believe all the positive ratings on other sites such as http://YP.com and citysearch. Based on my experience with them, this is a stretch. A very long one! (They SUCK!!!)

I live down the street and I used to go there for basic service, as they lured me in with their $9.99 oil change specials. Had some other minor work done, but nothing major for this simple reason:

Everytime I had an oil change, they would come out with a mile long list of things I needed to get done. I would then go to my mechanic friend, who, 9 times out of 10, would look over my car and tell me the work wasn't necessary, or he felt the estimate was high.

They also provided me with a "comment card" one day after an oil change. It clearly said to fill it out and bring it in the next time you come in and you get a free tire rotation. So upon my next oil change, I gave them the card and asked them to rotate my tires.

When I went to pick the car up, my bill was almost $60 (not $12.00 as usual.) I asked what was going on and they told me they did the whole "20 point or whatever inspection," which is $45.00. I explained very clearly that all I wanted was my tires rotated, and that should be free!

Things got heated and an old man, probably the owner, came up front to see what was going on. I pleaded my case and the person I was dealing with, in front of everyone there, said "He only comes in for the oil changes!."

The old man then said to me repeatedly, "Just leave."

I was astonished- that is the way they treat a customer? Especially in public? They ended up not charging me the $45, but I think the feeling was mutual- we will no doubt, EVER do business together again. I suggest you do the same

I had a coupon for a routine oil change and came in so they could do it. They ""found"" a number of problems. When I took it to another shop I was told most of what they told me did not need to be fixed. They perform unnecessary repairs. They should be rated negative five stars. Plus, looking at this site I see they post fake positive reviews of their services. It doesn't take a genius to see how short, vague, and fake all those 5-star reviews are. Don't be a sucker!

I naively took my car in for an oil change and was told I needed $1500 in repair work on my car. I refused and took my car elsewhere and was told almost nothing needed to be fixed. They are a dishonest shop: avoid them or be sorry. The terse, vague positive reviews you see on this site are bogus reviews generated by the owners. Check out their reviews on yelp, which makes an effort to screen out obviously fake reviews.

Ive tried Doc Able's twice now. Once out of sheer emergency being new to the area my car broke down on the expressway and they were the nearest place I could tow it to that had an available appointment. I was given estimates of nearly $2000 in work for my car. Be it that two thousand dollars was not in my budget they did work on my car that would get it up and running again. When I went to pick up my car the leak that they were supposed to fix was still leaking! I dropped my keys walking over to my car and thought "let me just take a peek under neath the car" I did and sure enough there was a drip of oil! Oil that should have been repaired as part of the paid for repairs. Well they take it back into the garage and adjust a hose or two but when they bring it back I noticed my window off track. I paid nearly $1100 for repairs one of the mechanics let it down and it popped off track. As a business I would think that if you damage something you would fix it before returning it back to the customer. My car's twenty years old , I take care of it, I knew it was an occasional problem but my disgust is not one mention of the window. If she says nothing, we say nothing attitude!!

I learned the hard way. I brought my 2003 Toyota in for an estimate on a 60,000 mile service. After getting a quote I shopped around and to save $40.00 I went to another place. Boy was that a mistake, by the time they were done I spent $120.00 more and had to wait 3 days for my car. I have always used Doc's in the past and I will always use them in the future...

""After reading the reviews, thankfully I had a decent experience at Doc Able's. I needed to get a tire replaced after getting a flat and Doc's was the closest shop. They were quick and service was decent. Prices were pretty reasonable too.\n\nThis experience was solid enough that I may go for a return visit when needed. I find that auto body shops are very difficult to judge. When going to an autobody shop, all people want to hear is good news and more importantly, hearing low price estimates. If you go to enough autobody shops I am sure you'll get quoted a lower prices and some will even say you don't need specific services done. But does that make individual more trustworthy? Not sure.""

Great place, they have saved me thousands over servicing my car at the dealership. It looks like the bad review are all from cheap Evanston pipe smoking professors who don't want to spend money. I will continue to service my car with Doc Ables!

All those five-star one-sentence cookie-cutter reviews on Citysearch are fake. Probably they're posed by employees. On behalf of the many who were ripped off by this place, stay away. They performed what I later learned were unneeded repairs on my car. I later learned that this place is well-known for dishonesty among locals. Check out their reviews on sites that screen out obviously fake reviews like Yelp. If you go there, you'll be sorry.

I had a really, really good experience with Doc Able's this morning though, so thought I should share. It's pretty much standard to pay $79 for tire rotation, balancing, etc. Doc's quoted me ""around $40"" over the phone for all that plus swapping tires off one set of wheels and putting them on another. When all was said and done, it came in at $42 after tax, no funny business. They were quick and even offered suggestions as to how I should go about selling my un-needed wheels.

I recommend this place to many folks, and I haven't heard bad news yet. It is far less expensive for me to have them do maintenance than the dealership
