Mid-North has a friendly group of staff members and veterinarians. However, if your pet is going in for something other than a yearly check-up or immunizations then you need to make sure that you're quite active in the decision making process. When our dog went in for his regular check-up, the vet noticed that his liver levels were high. Long story short, it ended up that the vet didn't think about the fact that the medication that he was on could be causing these high levels. If we hadn't raised that point, we could of possibly spent an excessive amount of money to find out nothing. The facility is a clean and healthy environment and is always in good condition when we are there.I'm not trying to discourage or not recommend this place, but as a pet owner you need to be active in the treatment process, if necessary.

I brought my dog to Mid-North Animal Hospital for 9 years. From the time of his first immunizations until his recent death. I began to realize a few years in that the overall mentality of the doctors and staff was more about milking money out of people and less about giving quality care to their pets. I didn't switch then because my dog had already acquired quite a health history and I thought it was in his best interest to keep him with the doctors who were familiar with him. I was also afraid of the unkown. \r\n\r\nThe decision not to switch was the worst mistake I made in my dog's life. I have so many horror stories from this facility I can't even begin to explain. I have caught one doctor in particular in a lie and overcharging me. The last week of my dog's life was particularly bad and traumatic. The doctor we saw recommended thousands of dollars in tests just to come up with a diagnosis. She told us there was a chance it was an obscure bacterial infection he was suffering from but was vague at best when begged for her medical opinion on his condition. We were forced to call other vets and physicians to get some advice. That was when we found out that given our dogs symptoms there was little to NO chance that he was suffering from what our vet led us to believe was possible. Even a doctor I called at Mid North the next day agreed that it was not likely our dog had this bacterial disease.\r\n\r\nThat's when we realized that she was purposely giving us false hope and doubt so that, rather than let our pet rest peacefully we would continue expensive treatments that would have been futile. She put us through hell in making our already difficult decision to part with a dog we loved very dearly.\r\n\r\nI urge anyone reading this, DO NOT bring your pet to Mid-North. There are many good alternatives to choose from.

Pros: clean facility

Cons: everything else

I sent my dog to Mid North Animal Hospital for 9 years. He was a patient from his first immunizations up until his death yesterday. A few years ago I realized that nearly every doctor in the office seemed to be more interested in prescribing expensive medications and running even pricier tests than what was actually in the best interest of my pet. I didn't switch because I was more afraid of the unkown and decided I was willing to pay more for what I thought was good care.

It was the worst mistake I could have made. In his last year I have so many horror stories about the honesty of the staff than I can write. I feel like I let my pet down by not changing vets, it was a terrible mistake on my part.

In his last days we had to call numerous vets and physicians to give us advice because the doctor we were dealing at Mid North was vague at best about our pet's condition. She wanted to run thousands of dollars in tests just to diagnose what every other expert we talked to told us was NOT the cause of his illness. Each vet and physician we spoke to, some we knew and some we called off of recommendations, thought it was strange that given my pet's condition the vet would even lead us to believe he was curable. I even got a second opinion the next day from a different doctor at Mid North who told me it was very unlikely that his condition had anything to do with what the first doctor said.

It sickened me that in such a difficult time she would give false hope in attempts to get more money out of us. It left my husband and I guilt ridden that we were making a mistake, even though we knew we were doing what was best for the dog we loved.

Mid North Animal Hospital was the worst mistake I made in my dog's life. There are so many good facilities in Chicago, please, find one that will care for you and your pet.

The people here are wonderful. I will agree that there is one staff person who needs a major attitude adjustment however the rest of the staff is very friendly and helpful. More importantly, they do impeccable work on the animals. As an owner of a dog and a couple of cats and a rescue volunteer, I recommend this place to any dog lovers!!
