Maybe it was a rough day for this business owner, but I was completely shocked with the way he handled an unsatisfactory pizza order for pick-up. We've only ordered from them once prior, but Old Town Pizza is in the neighborhood and we would rather support small or family owned businesses than some of the chains in economic times like this. Unfamiliar with their menu and various styles of pizza, my husband asked a lot of questions over the phone while placing our order. There was obvious miscommunication with the order taker when he struggled to describe the difference between the deep dish and the sicilian style crust pizza. When we got the pizza home, it was not at all what we thought we had ordered. We called to inquire about why the pizza came the way that it did and spoke with the owner to determine what could be done about it. We're typically easy to please and the last to complain at a restaurant, but given that we spent $30 and wouldn't be eating the pizza, we figured there had to be another solution. The owner got on the phone and was immediately defensive and rude. He told us that it wasn't "their job to recite the menu and describe everything in great detail." He also said that "we should take responsibility for not understanding what we were ordering." I've never encountered a business owner that blames the customer for their dissatisfaction. Although he reluctantly made another pizza (of lesser value), we will not be supporting this small business again in the future. Maybe we would consider it if the food was superior among competitors, but unfortunately, the only real attraction is their convenient location.
