Step into this restaurant and chances are you will see mostly Chinese families, enjoying traditional food and tea, and having a good time - the true mark of an authentic restaurant in the middle of Chinatown.

Having tried most of the restaurants in Chinatown, I am now a regular at Mountain View Chef for their excellent food. This place has the best dim sum in town, made fresh to order and served hot. The restaurant is clean, and tough the wait staff speak little English, they are always smiling, friendly and ready to help. The food is a bargain with the lunch special carry-out menu for $3! For breakfast or dim sum, try their shrimp dumplings (har gow), chicken feet, spare ribs or chicken sticky rice in lotus leaf. For Dinner, try their Spicy Salt and Pepper Silver Fish for the Appetizer, and for the entree, try their steamed shrimp stuffed with garlic or Chicken with Black Bean sauce on a sizzling platter - Enjoy!

P.S: I disagree with the other reviewer. Expect a true Chinatown experience here, if you want a fancy restaurant, go to a place in downtown. In all the 50+ times that I have been here, I never had a bad experience and the place is always clean and the staff courteous

Pros: Dimsum, Taste, Freshly Made Food, Authentic

Cons: Waiting staff are not fluent in English

.

so i go to this place all the time and haven't ever had a problem. It's not the fanciest place by any means and the servers do just what they're supposed to. take the orders and bring the food. It's not a place where they're going to be pouring your tea and checking on you ever 10 minutes. i am chinese and i feel that their food is good! it's not how the palce looks but how the food tastes. I've been to some fancy looking restaurants and the food was terrible. me and my parents would always come here for dinner for chinese new years or when we just wanted to have dinner together. i feel that it is well priced authentic style cantonese food.

it seems like only people write reviews if they had a bad experience but i always leave happy and full.

Pros: good food, great for large groups, fast service

Cons: not the nicest place but that's no biggy to me as long as the food is quality

A insect was in my tea. it's okay I didn't complain. The problem was the service. Waited a dish for so long so we asked them about it. No apology but It's okay. I don't really mind cause people do forget things. They confirmed the order again and then we waited for another 20 minutes. We asked them about the dish again said we were waiting for 20-30 minutes so we would cancel the order. The lady shouted out loud impolitely said just cancel it. At the moment my friends were unhappy. One of the friends called the lady back and made sure they would not charge the dish. The lady responded impolitely again and shouted out loud also. Not only the lady got bad attitude, before it another lady got the similar problem but was still better than it. I asked a lady for something she just said wait then left. She did several times like it not just once. Anyway, we were unhappy the service a lot and BTW the plates and cups were dirty. A insect was in the tea as I mentioned before. Finally we didn't tip them even one cent and will not go back to the restaurant! I was telling the true story. Hope you guys may have better experience there.

Pros: Can't find any if compare to other restaurants in Chinatown

Cons: Bad Service and Dirty

.

The service is so bad even considering Chinese restaurant standard. I spoke with the owner regarding the poor service and he just looked at me. There are so many Chinese restaurants to choose from. Don't spend your money at Mountain View.
