This place has the worst customer service that I have ever encountered.
The food at best is average and extremely expensive.

DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE... if you do not believe me read some of the other comments post it by past customers. There are so many choices in the Lakeview area that this should not be on anyone??s list.

The owner is rude, inattentive and unappreciative it. I believe that he has a Napoleon complex and I am sure that plays allot into the way he believes he should treat customers. He is under the impression that he can dictate how you should pay in the restaurant and if you do not like it then too bad. I am in the Hospitality business and the last time I checked "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT" THEY TRULY BELIEVE THAT THEY DO NOT NEED YOUR BUSINESS BECAUSE THE WAY THAT THEY TREAT CUSTOMERS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

All I want to do was have an open tab in the bar while I was having dinner with friends and family, but instead the owner told me that if I kept that tab open he would charge the entire dinner on my card. There were at least 20 of us and I did not feel like taking on such a high bill. I asked him what the problem was if I kept it open and he told me that he did not want to mix the bar with the restaurant...?????. Any way you look it he is still getting my money but he told me that if I did not obliged I needed to leave.

PLEASE READ SOME OF THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND HELP ME CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN. I AM TIRED FO POOR SERVICE AND PLACES LIKE THESE NEED TO BE EXPOSED AND RAN OUT OF BUSINESS.

It's been my 6th time there... since they are right around the corner, every other year I'd give it a try thinking "maybe they are not so bad... it was just that night..."..
Although the Margaritas are OK ( by OK I mean OK,.. not good by any means) .. the food is awful, by far the worse Mexican food I've ever tasted...when you think that nothing can go wrong with chips and salsa, there is a place where that will prove you wrong.. they have the most oily, unsalted, bad tasted chips I've ever seen.
And above all that.. The service is unbelievably bad, Mean and Rude people working all over the place, if you have any problem... please.. take my advice and never call the manager... you will definitely get a rudder person. and after reading other reviews.. really, what's with the moving table thing...I thought that was with me but as I see it's like part of their service...Unbelievable Best advice I can give is to Avoid the place, just do a research and read other reviews..

(((THIS IS THE REST OF WHAT WE ENDURED AND DISAPPOINTINGLY WENT ALONG WITH)))
THEN, our original waiter comes up to us and apologizes for moving us... UH HUH... UH--WHAT?!? You want us to move AGAIN to the other side of the restaurant at the other bar?? and you'll give us another drink on the house? OH NO. We are not moving. He tells us that he hasn't put in our next round of drinks with the bar, yet. We tell him we're not moving. Our drinks come. Then, our waitress returns with our check telling us thank you and whenever we're ready to pay would be great. And they charge us for those final round of drinks. UMM.. I don't know why we even ended up staying there... I don't know why we even PAID our bill. I don't know why we TIPPED our waiters--- I know it's not their faults, but their tips should have reflected the total service that was provided all night... We paid cash with a small overage on a credit card-- and of course, the waitress returns to tell us we cannot use our credit card unless the charge is over $10. We should have just walked out. If you want margaritas that do NOT taste like they have used the Patron that's promised, go only for the drinks, sit only at the bar. If you want awesome margaritas with awesome food and pleasant service, try CAMPECHE on Lincoln and Jersey on the north side of the city. by the way, spaghetti o's soup that's watered down served with a wedge of lime was free at Cesar's."

Cons: being asked to move tables five times. one tab per party only. "free" drinks promised that are usually free anyway. actually paying our bills instead of just walking out.

Cesar's has some of the best margaritas in the city!! And they are H-U-G-E. So, ladies, bring cab money because you are not gonna want to be in the CTA after a girl's night from this place. The one off of Belmont is in close proximity to some great dives if you are looking for someplace to "wear" your buzz off. The location down the way is great too. Both get crowded easily on the weekends, so beware. Overall, good food. Not authentic to my tasting, but I never leave hungry.

When I dined at this restaurant with a friend, the service proved to be as abysmal as the food. My vegetarian burrito was incredibly plain and boring (how do you mess up beans and vegetables?), and my friend's wrap was unappetizing. When she complained to our server, he curtly replied, "Well, no one has ever complained about it before," as if that should make everything all right. The margaritas were good, but easily the worst Mexican I've had in the city.

This place is the pits. The food is horrible and the management is equally as bad. I would say easily the worst mexican food I've ever eaten.

Terrible service I have ever seen. I have been waiting for 40 min. for the table - and was told to get out the place after all this. We were 2 and I asked for table for 3 , my friend wanted to join us. After 40 min, (I so the other people been seated right away) I?ve been told that I have to wait for the 3rd person to come in case to bee seated. than I tried to tell that I just want to start eating at this time and not sure , that this person will join us, the guy upfront told me that I will never will get table in this place and have to leave.

The frozen margaritas here are the best in the neighborhood, hands down. This is their bread and butter, and they are clearly aware of it. The service at the Clark location is famously bad. On a busy night, they will rush you (sometimes with less than what would qualify as tact), but if you are a pleasant group (i.e., you can handle your liquor) they will sometimes offer free shots or drinks at the bar for your inconvenience in relinquishing your table perhaps earlier than you intended. While thoughtful, it definitely betrays their desire to crank through the customers vs. offer a pleasant experience. They do this because they can...the Clark location is prime.

The service issues don't seem so bad at the other location on Broadway, which is oddly just a 10 minute walk away. Given the choice it's the one I would recommend.

The food is barely adequate. It's generally kind of bland, and outside of the burritos the portions are mediocre relative to other Mexican retaurants. The burritos are not as good as even those you'd get at a fast food joint like Taco Burrito King. Again, just bland.

If Cesar's was simply a margarita bar, it would be phenomenal, as I feel many of its problems (including inconsistent staff attitude) result from them trying to shoe-horn a restaurant experience into a place people only really frequent for the margaritas. They need to be honest with themselves about this. As a restaurant, I cannot recommend it. Sad, as the frozen margaritas truly are amazing.

Pros: Best margaritas in the neighborhood, if not the city

Cons: Poor service at Clark location when busy, substandard/bland food

After ordering (1) margarita in the dinning room during dinner, my party was told that they needed our table and refused to serve us anymore drinks. However, the hostess did offer (4) coupons for free ?house? drinks in the basement. After the main course, we were promptly given our bill without offering any dessert menu. The service & food were POOR. There are so many other Mexican/margarita restaurants in Chicago, take your business and money elsewhere!

We went with a group of 5 last night for a quick bite after a few drinks across the street. As soon as we got there the waitress threw the chips down with an attitude - one that continued throughout the night. When we asked for more chips a few minutes later (5 hungry people what do you expect) she totally gave more attitude. When my meal was brought I told the waitress I ordered my enchiladas with just regular red sauce - not green sauce. She insisted I was wrong but after looking at the check realized the error was hers. They were closing like an hour after we got there so we were definitely rushed. In addition, two of the people we were with ordered the huge margaritas and when they tried to order their second ones were told they could only have the small ones because they were closing. What that had to do with it I don't know. After we finished our meal, we were outside the restaurant saying our goodbyes as we were all off to our respective homes. Some employee inside was like mouthing stuff to us very angrily and our waitress flipped me the bird. No reason what so ever. I had even given a 20% tip - God knows why?! I have never in my life experienced such attitudes...at a Mexican restaurant nonetheless! I'm not sure who these people think they are, but I will never in my life give them so much as a glance. Who cares about the food - the staff was unacceptable. I wonder if they realize all they do is sell cheap, nasty Mexican food for a living?

Cesar's does NOT accept credit cards throughout restaurant and management takes unacceptable action when asked for explanation. With ground-level seating full, we're directed to basement. When credit card was given as payment, we're informed cash-only. With no cash, and knowledge the floor above accepted credit, we asked to pay upstairs - even offered to walk it upstairs ourselves. After, what we believed to be management arrived, all seemed resolved - we were assured credit card is acceptable. Thirty minutes later, another man approaches saying, "No drinks for you." He takes our remining drinks/food. We requested an explanation from all 3 employees we spoke with. When noone explained the rationale behind the cash-only rule for half the restaurant, we vocalized a theory-which apparently hit a nerve. Instead of offering another explanation, we were kicked out. With all the wonderful Mexican establishments in Chicago, I will never dine at Cesar's again.

Horrible customer service. Mediocre food not worth the hassle. I highly recommend anywhere else for Mexican. If you like to be treated like you're lucky to be eating your burito, go here. If you prefer to be treated like a valued customer, go elsewhere. I know I will.

The margaritas here are great - large, and lots of flavor combos. The food, however, is overpriced and uninspired. Rice and beans are a la carte, which is very annoying in a tex-mex restaurant. The tables are a bit cramped together.

We have been going to Cesar's almost every Friday night for 6 years and NEVER had a bad experience. The margaritas are by far the best anywhere! They do get quite busy and try to make sure that everyone that wants to eat eventually gets a table. Cesar is there most nights and has never been rude about asking anyone to move to the bar, most of the time he offer something for your trouble. Try the Broadway location, it's usually not as crowded.

I went to this place and thought everything was great. The big problem was, that when I finished eating I was told to finish my drinks at the bar so I could make room for the other people that were waitng to eat. I have NEVER benn to a place like this and was quite outraged by it. I called the owner Cesar and he said he was not bothered at all by my having to move and that it is a policy there at his place.

Since moving back to Chicago this has been a staple!! The food is always excellent and the service is outstanding! I always bring my out of town guests here and we are never disappointed. One time on a busy Friday, me and a friend were finishing a drink at our table when the owner came up to us and very nicely said "we have an hour wait, do you mind if I buy you guys a drink and finish it at the bar" We apologized for taking our time and he said he was sorry and proceeded to buy us a drink. You'll never hear those words at Cesar's. The owners think the honor is yours to be granted the privilege of eating there.

The good: decent food, aptly titled 'Killer Margaritas' pack a punch but don't taste like they do.

The bad: aggressively awful service!

After buying two dinners on a not-so-busy early Saturday evening, my friend and I were told by the owner in a harsh manner that we'd have to vacate our table and retreat to the bar if we wished to continue talking, even though we ordered more drinks and despite there being several open tables.

After moving, the waitress tried to imply that we moved to get out of paying for our food!

Then we were subjected to an amorous bartender who kept trying to ply us with free drinks and eavesdropped intently on our entire conversation.

One shouldn't wonder why Ill NEVER visit this dive again!

Without a doubt, Cesar's serves the best margaritas in town! The mango and "blue" are especially yummy. They're sweet and tart and you can taste the tequila. Do yourself right and upgrade to mega size, it's worth the price! All that said, the food is just alright--keep in mind it's a taqueria. The food is basic, and overpriced (though it's in line with the neighborhood), but by no means bad. I enjoyed the service--all of my bartenders have been fun and have joked around with us, though the food servers seem less social--probably because they have to climb over people to deliver the food.

I'm not especially picky about margaritas, provided they're "regular" flavored. That said, Cesar's has by far the worst margaritas I've ever tasted: a sour, salty mush with little flavor and no sweetness. It didn't help that we were made to stand in the dark, smoky basement for what seemed like forever, only to be served mediocre food to match our lousy drinks.
