Out in a flash, still with most of your cash
I never had a haircut that took longer than 15 minutes at Big Hair. Big Hair is the perfect solution for urban dwellers who want to look good, but not spend a lot on hair. The environment is casual, fun, and funky; if you ask nicely, the staff will tell you where to find the best vintage shops in Roscoe Village. Now that I'm more into precision cuts, I've decided to go to a slightly more upscale place, but for shaggy, funky, and cheap, forget Fantastic Sam's, head here.
PROS: CHEAP! Fun!

Awesome!
This place is awesome! They only give the best haircuts I've ever seen. Lots of my friends go here, they have drastically different looking hair and they all look fantastic! Parking is not too terrible in this area, but there is always the Damen bus that will take you within steps of their front door!

GOOD STYLIST IN TRENDY ROSCOE VILLAGE
This place is like something out of a movie. It is absolutely packed to the gills with vintage hair dryers, wigs, and kitsch. It also has more hair magazines with possible hair styles than I have seen absolutely anywhere, and a black and white coffee table that someone must have painted freehand.
The haircut prices are incredible though - only thirteen dollars for women, even long hair. At that price, if you don't like the cut you get you can come back the next week and get something else.
PROS: Cheap haircuts
CONS: Roscoe Village can be quite a busy area any time

never spend a lot on hair again
After moving to Chicago, I was looking for a hair cuttery that would not break the bank, and after an exhaustive search, I finally found Big Hair, and I will never go anywhere else! Big Hair is a very funky hairstylist out in Roscoe Village. They do not accept reservations, so you just have to go and wait in their old barber chairs and view all the local art that decorates the walls. The staff is all very friendly, and they listen to what you want. There is no pretension, fuss, or big bills here. A haircut is $12, and a wash is $3 -- can't beat it!

Still the great palce I remember!!
I firmly believe that you shouldn't have to mortgage you house to get a great cut and color in Chicago.......apparently this shop believes the same thing. I was getting my hair cut at Big Hair a few years ago but tried someone new when my stylist left. The new shop was okay and reasonable.but every couple cuts, the person who was doing my hair was gone and I was starting over. When it happened again, I decided to try Big Hair again. When I looked up the number I read a couple of the comments here on City Search. Some of the comments below are tacky and frankly self serving. When I called I specifically asked for Queenie because of some negative comments belowI was pretty sure the comments were out of line. I was right!! I didnt get exactly what I explained to Queenie.I got BETTER! Finally I got the top layered exactly the way I wanted. The rest of the cut was just what I wanted..lots of style and sass. The color turned out much closer to my real ash blonde and Queenie suggested a few highlights that really made it look perfectly natural. I was a little disappointed that the prices have gone up slightly..(thanks idiot who ever you are that said you get what you pay for)..I had always found in the past the quality of hair care given was a lot more then the cost was, its still a reasonable price for great hair. If you are looking for a posh salon with rude people that have their noses out of joint this may not be your thingbut if you are looking for a great fun place to get your hair cut, colored or both.CALL BIG HAIR!!.
Pros: geat fun place for cut and color
Cons: none I can think of

I was there when Patti opened it!
I was helping a friend run a vintage retail buisiness a few blocks down Roscoe, when the owner of the store came in with a great hair cut!! He told me it was only $5.00. So I ran down the street during my break and became fast friends with Patti who owend and opened the shop. she colored and cut my hair and I only paid $5.00 so I tipped her $15.00, everytime I get to town I try to hook up with her and have her do something wild an fun!
Pros: Great funky ambieance, freindly people, always great bargin!
Cons: N/A

you get what you pay for
i went in and said "I don't need a haircut, but i have a wedding and a job interview next week, can you just trim it up a bit." She then went and cut off all my hair. I'm not kidding, she took off over an inch and now my hair stands straight up. the place is cheap and the people are nice, but if you want someone to listen to you then pay a little more and go get your hair cut by a pro.
Pros: cheap, convenient
Cons: not a very skilled staff, didn't listen to what i asked for, ruined my hair

Great Service!!
After reading numerous mixed reviews about Big Hair I decided to give it a try; Anila was my stylist. I'm glad I decided to go and judge the experience on my own. The staff was very friendly. Anila listened to my comments and offered her recommendations. The result was fabulous! Anila turned a haircut into an art work with great precision and style. I would not suggest for you to go there if you want to stick with your traditional dull routine haircut. Trust me- I was one of those people. I think a hairstyle makes or breaks the appearance of a person. Thanks to Anila, I'm a Big Hair customer for life!!
Pros: Anila was terrific
