I had the the steak medium-rare, a shrimp appetizer, and the chocolate ice cream for desert. I loved it all very much. The atmosphere on Tuesday night was mostly executives on business.

Would get five stars except they're a little slow with quoted reservation times. On a Saturday night I had a 7:30pm reservation, did not get seated until 8:15pm. Of course we just had drinks from the bar so it was not a problem.\r

Chicago classic in the viagra triangle. Although they have good food and service, they're a bit over hyped. It's nice to be able to sit outside when the weather is nice...and they have a nice bar area with live music. My favorite is the W.R. Chicago cut. They also have a good lobster bisque.

We have a friend who likes going there and we've joined him. It's overrated. The steak was bland and dry, poorly prepared. The deserts we??ve eaten there have never been very good. The roasted chicken on the bar menu is decent. There's much better restaurants in the area at that level. The outside dining is pretty fun, the interior needs updating. We wouldn't go back on our own.

I was not at all impressed with my meal here and after hearing such good things and with the high prices, I expected much more.

To start the meal, our water was overflowing and splashed all over the table when the waitress brought it to us, and there was not even a slice of lemon or anything.

The bread was okay, we were given three different kinds and the raisin bread as well as the multigrain sourdough were good - probably the highlight of the meal, which is kinda sad when you're paying $30+ for the entrees.

The house salads that came with our entrees were absolutely pathetic. Worse quality than fast food restaurants. Wilted and brown romaine lettuce with a few strings of carrots and purple lettuce, one cherry tomato, and one slice of cucumber. Honestly, if you aren't going to at least have mixed greens or something more interesting, don't even offer a salad. It just ruins my impression of the restaurant as "fine dining."

I had a petitie filet mignon, which was really tiny, and came with a huge spear of broccoli as well as really gunky hollandaise sauce. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare but it was closer to medium/medium well. Not a huge problem, but still, not what I expect from a steakhouse of this caliber.

My friend had the soft shell crabs sauteed with vegetables and sesame soy sauce. The crabs were nice and tender, but there was way too much sauce and she was really thirsty even hours after our meal.

Smith & Wollensky is a better steakhouse, especially if you're ready to spend this kind of money. I was completely unsatisfied with my meal here.

EXCELLENT service, presentation and taste! A steak here spoils every other steak dinner you have anywhere else! Give yourself time to fully enjoy the experience.

This is the happening steakhouse plus more. Lots of people at the bar with piano player. Real energetic. Grey Gose Martini was weak at best (watered down), but the food was amazing. Enjoyed the Prime aged Porterhouse w/peppercorn and Prime bone-in rib-eye, both were done to perfection. Other dishes we tried include twice baked potatoe w/sour cream, chives and chedder, as well wedge w/chopped tomato and onions.
The restaurant itself is packed on a Saturday night. Tables are tight but comfortable. Booths occupied by downtown regulars. The wait staff is polite and orchestrated by an invisible management. Server was Mario, he made us feel rushed and sneared at our food choices and was almost comical. He ignored several requests and vanished.

Gibson's continually serves up quality and service. This is a place where you will spend money, but it is very much worth it. The service is excellent, the food is by far the best I have had in a steak house and the atmosphere is very pleasing.

Unbelievable food, efficient & fun service, & the highest quality products available, served in an exciting setting, seems like a simple equation for a great Saturday night out. The difference at Gibsons Bar and Steakhouse is that this is a nightly occurrence with the same excitement & weekend energy found every day of the week.

The only thing better than the steaks here (never had a bad one - always cooked to perfection, in my opinion) is being able to enjoy one on the sidewalk on a balmy evening, watching the colorful Rush Street crowd walk by.

This place gets slammed. I'd recommend arriving early. Otherwise, expect to wait. The bartenders are great and can actually make a proper drink (unlike some of the models that some places use).

If you're feeling casual and not in the mood for a proper steak, but still feel like eating something that had parents. Try the filet sliders. They're insanely good. Also, the crabmeat avocado is great.

Definetley on of the best steaks ive had. every thing else was pretty basic. The waiter was a bit harsh. The cheese potatto is huge. but pretty plain tasting.. But i would deffinetly say its worth checking out.. Its in a fun area of Chicago, lots of stuff going around . lots of good steak houses in Mag mile probably should just check them all out...We both give it a B

Made the trek to Gibson's. This is a hard one to review. First off, it's a cool place where you will definitely see any celebs in town for whatever the reason. The place is always brimming with people and does have a good bar and a fun vibe.

Here is the problem. The food is overrated and the service and the attitude goes a long way in me giving this a below average rating. I gues because there is so many people walking in the door all the time that Gibson's doesn't have to go out of their way to make you happy. I just didn't get the feeling that the place really cared if I was there, enjoying myself, or not.

Foodwise, yes it's good. But its not great. Its just the attitude that turns me off. I actually had better luck at the Gibson's in Rosemont. Better service, more friendly staff, and i thought the food was better.

Go to Gibson's if you want the "see and be seen" arena. If you want a good steak, there are better places in Chicago without the attitude.

In my opinion, Gibsons Bar and Steakhouse is the best in the area. You can see all of the celebritys who have been there by checking out their large photo wall. It is a great place to go for a giant, well aged steak to fill you up.

Flew from the Beverley Hills Hotel in Rome on the advise of American BOB Poulsom, unfortunately was a wasted journey as food was not as expected and service was poor. Sorry BOB but wasted $1200 on a flight to taste your recommended food. The steak was done the way they wanted it not the way I wanted which was a big dissapointment. Celebs present but hey, I was there to eat good food. Shame I looked forward to it after the big run up giving by Bob In Rome. No hard feelings Bob and your Girlfriend is lovely Bob.

After travelling to Chicago for over 25 years, I had the opportunity to take several guests to the "famous" Gibsons last Friday evening. We had reservations for 8 p.m. for 6 people, then during the day 2 more people joined our party. I called ahead to advise Gibsons, and the hostess said to come in and they would have no problem accomodating us. We arrived at 7:45, and it wasn't until 9 p.m that we were seated and nothing was said to apologize. They sat us in the corner where it was so noisy we couldn't even have conversation with each other. Then, 2 out of 8 people got their food right away, and the rest waited at least 20 minutes more. The manager eventually did come to us and apologized and gave us free desert. However, for spending well over $300 for dinner, my guests were extremely disappointed and probably will never want to return again. It was a total disappointment for all.

Gibson's is one of my favorite steakhouses in the city. The food is so good. I highly recommend the filet as well as the mashed potatoes. The desserts are out of this world - try the Muddy Bottom, which has oreo crust, ice cream and macadamia nuts. Definitely a fun place for dinner as well, with great people watching.

WIth those three things - how can you go wrong? Our waiter, Richard, was incredible - try to get him. He's very helpful, devilishly funny and will take care of your every need. The food is amazing. The steaks are done perfectly, at just the right temp for the natives, servings are huge and the martinis wash everything down nicely. It is true that they're a bit more expensive than the average restaurant - but who wants average?

Gibsons is obiously a Chicago landmark, and for that, it stands to reason that there is a lot of interest in the restaurant. It's almost impossible to get a reservation, but if you do, the food is great. My only complaint is that we couldn't get reservations for months. Aside from that, the food is great, but I think there are other comparable places, too, without the 9:30 PM dinner.

Made reservations for 11 on a Thurday night. We were seated promptly by a polite hostess. The ambience of the restaurant is an old Chicago style restaurant packed with lively people. Bottom line, the place was busy but you still got a lot of attention from the staff. Once seated, we had to add another seat for a friend that decided to join us late. It was no problem, even in a ver crowded room. The staff is great. However, the food is beyonf great! I had the Porterhouse steak...amazing! I tried a peice of my friends NY Strip...even better! I definately recommend this place for a great steak.

I recently had my first visit to Chicago, and visited the Famous Gibsons Steakhouse. It was like entering an A list bar with beautiful singles everywhere you turned. This place had a fantastic buzz. The food was top notch, and the service was the best I've had. Server's name was Joan, she had a fantastic smile, and was very knowledgeable about the food and the history of the restaurant.

I will make sure my next visit to Chicago will entail another great trip to Gibsons.

If you are looking for a great place to impress friends or family then Gibsons is just the place for you! I have dined here twice now and both experiences were out of this world! The service is beyond amazing from the hostesses, to the bussers to the servers to the managers! And you can't forget about Peaches, the friendly woman at the cigar counter! They all definitely make you feel like you belong!

Then there's the food. One word....incredible! I cannot put into words how delicious the food is! I love the double baked potato, I love the Prime Rib and I love the London Broil! The only downfall I can see of Gibsons is having to narrow down what to order.

And don't forget to save room for the mammoth desserts! I highly recommend the banana cream pie or the carrot cake!

I ususally try to make it to Gibsons on Rush at least a few times a year. Any time I am entertaining out of town visitors I always take them here...and they are never disappointed! My "go to" choice is the filet. Always cooked to perfection and the quality of meat is top notch. The desserts are awesome too. The chocolate mousse pie is DA BOMB! Expect it to be crowded & noisy though.

This was my first time to Gibsons. I have always heard alot from people how great it is, but they surpassed my expectations!!! We had a group of 5 people and decided to share most of our food. Ordered the Porterhouse ( YUM! ), Lobster (for the size you get it was cooked to perfection), Baby back ribs, (Monster sized) baked potato and the sauteed spinach. The service was unbelivable... our waiter was prompt, funny and very helpful. Overall this restaurant a great choice for our dining experience!! I have found a new favorite steakhouse.

Highly recommended - ARRIVE HUNGRY

Three out of the four steaks we ordered were overcooked. We were treated rudely and neglected by the server after sending a steak back to the kitchen. We were told it was wrong of us to send food back when a restaurant reviewer was in the building and left to feel that we owed them an apology. To top it all off, one of our diners was sick for the rest of the evening! This place doesn't deserve its reputation as one of the best steakhouses in the city.

I stopped here for a quick lunch during a day trip to Chicago and was pleasantly surprised. Gibson's is filled with very neat memorabilia all over the walls. There are hundreds of signed photo's of celeb's all over the place. The Service was phenominal. During lunch time, it was very busy, but our waiter was always checking on us, and the bus boys were doing the same. The only unfortunate part of the trip was they were out of the mini filet burgers. Those sounded wonderful. The French Dip was one of the best I ever had. The combo of the great service, food, and prices made a top notch lunch stop.

Gibson's is what I expect of a traditional American/Steakhouse restaurant. Friendly people, hearty food, good music, and good service. For my visit, I chose to eat at the bar since I was travelling solo for business. The bartender made excellent recommendations and all the patrons around me knew him and greeted him as if he were their brother. Every ten minutes, I was asked how my food was and everytime I put out a cig, he cleaned out my ashtray instantly. The steak was good (large filet), yet I would recommend a smaller cut to acheive more even cooking (new york, petite filet, etc.). Bar scene consists of many business men but a younger/hip crowd pops in later on at night. Don't miss it.

I travel to Chicago frequently for business and I always make sure I visit Gibson's at least once. Gibson's has some of the best service that I have seen in a long time and the food is always fresh and well prepared. It is an absolute must to bring one of their wonderful desserts home to my husband. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

I was VERY happy with Gibson's. I needed a restaurant that was open on Saturday afternoon for dinner prior to an early evening event. When we arrived we were seated immediately and troughout our meal we received exceptional service. We informed one of our waiters that we were on a schedule. They made sure we were finished exactly when we needed to be, yet without making the meal feel rushed.

Steaks, salads, and all other side dishes were excellent. The Chicago Cut (bone-in ribeye) was expecially good.

I anticipated high steakhouse prices, yet our total bill was actually a bit less than I expected. I am looking forward to a return visit!

Out of town visitor who has eaten at Gibsons 3 times (1 north 2 rush) and enjoyed all 3...although not because of the steak. Great atmosphere which is so typically Chicago in that it's noisy and fast with very open and vibrant people. The side dishes are great but the quality of the steak is only marginal even though it has always been cooked well. This is a geat bar, but not a great fine dining restaurant so just go for the right reasons and enjoy the visit.

Pros: rush street, busy, service

Cons: pricey, busy, marginal steak

I went to Gibson's for the first time recently and will definitely be back. Service was exceptional despite how busy it was. Food was terrific - my boyfriend had their signature steak and loved it more than steaks he's had at the Chicago Chop House.

Gibson's steak house holds a reputation for one of Chicago's best steakhouses. Maybe I was there on an off night, but I could not disagree more. Large portions is all they seem to be known for! The steak was average.. I have had way better. The food was average.. nothing to write home about. I was disappointed and won't be going back.

Ther are no great steakhouses in Michigan so when I get a chance to get to Chi-town I always eat at Gibsons. From the steak to the service there is no better place than Gibsons, not only in Chicago but in my opinion the country. Price is no object for the quality.

We had a wonderful dinner - the steaks cooked to perfection - a chocolate mousse dessert that is bigger than baseball mit! We had reservations for 9:00 p.m. on a Friday night and were seated on time. The only draw back to this wonderful steakhouse is that it was so busy it took a while for our waiter to wait on us. Although, a manager stopped by to rectify the situation after asking us how we were doing. Overall, the great food was worth the wait.

We dined at Gibson's for the first time on Monday, October 27, 2003. We were very impressed with the friendliness of the front and bar staff and we loved the bar area! Lots of energy and the signature Gibson cocktail was great. Oysters were plump and juicy. The steak was very good, though not the best we've ever had. Service in the dining room was just ok. Side dishes were very good.

it is kind of noisy, but for those used to chicago, san francisco and chicago that's okay. nice uniforms, but trousers need pressing and shoes shined.

I booked a table for 2, a month in advance. When we got there, on time, we were told there was a 2 hour wait for a table - take it or leave it! Gibson's ruined my date, and is as pretentious as these establishments get.

Pros: None

For the price ($50 w/potato & salad), I expect a perfect Filet Mignon. It was just average. :( If you want a great steak go to Basilico Ristorante in Norridge.

I had dinner for the first time at Gibson's after being told about it by friends for quite some time. I was not disappointed. The food and service was excellent (I had the 2lb lobster tail and it was incredible) and the atmosphere was very upbeat and fun (although crowded). It's not what you would call a romantic restaurant, but it's great for get togethers with friends and family. Try the absolutely incredible apple streudel for dessert. I am still thinking about it . . .

Excellent in all aspects. Food is fabulous, servers and very knowledgeable on all foods and wines. Ambiance is great as well! The best steakhouse by far!

The upscale chains all over town have nothing on this home-grown steakhouse. The bar and hallway are packed nightly with beefy businessmen in dark suits, lovelies in little black dresses, sports figures, politicos and average Joes and…
