I know that part of the charm of the place is the horrible service, but when they get abusive, that's not cool. The food isn't THAT good.

The food is OK, but its the experience that's fun. Just don't get it personally when the staff is rude!

I have never actually eaten the food from here, but I love going. Going there after a fun night at the bar is the best. I would recommend this to new comer in the city!

I love your verbal abuse after a night of drinking. The hot dogs are great, I moved to Seattle and they try to do late night hot dog stands and they aren't even close.

Husband and I tried this Clark St. stand, and keep going back when in the city. We've tried a few other hot dog stands, and always come back here. Their menu is very simple--not lots of confusing choices. The fresh-cut fries with cheddar on the side can't be beat, with the fries nicely browned. One order is plenty for two. The hot dogs are Vienna and perfect. I like mine charred with everything. Husband has had the burger, and reported it as very good. We've never had any problems with the staff, but as it gets later into the evening, language and manners get rough, so expect it and you'll be fine. Some inside seating on stools around the perimeter, and outside tables. The place looks quite dingy, but we've never minded. We go for the food.

I've only gone here twice. It is ok. It is probably better drunk at 4am. I don't like being treated poorly so I don't say anything other than my order. They got the message and moved on to the next person. The drunks seemed to like it. If I was drunk in Wrigleyville I would stop in.

There must be some mistake. How can a place like this be rated 5 stars?!?! IT'S A DUMP!!! I expected this nice CLEAN fast food place with ample seating for everyone, but NO!!! I expected THEE BEST hot dogs in Chicago with fries that were nice long "finger sized" and not overgreasy, but NO!! I expected a friendly staff, BUT NOOOOO!! The place barely fits 20 people with BROKEN STOOLS AND COUNTERTOPS and the area behind the counter looks BROKEN DOWN and barely fits 5. As for the food itself, it was LOUSY!!! First, the menu board is falling apart with missing letters and off the nails it hangs on. There are flys EVERYWHERE and the garbage "baskets" look like they haven't been washed out or changed since the place opened. The food itself was NOT FILLING AT ALL!!! It's a NORMAL hot dog either boiled or charred with the ususal Chicago style toppings, NOTHING SPECIAL!!! You'll need at least 2 double dogs to fill you up (of course that means more $). The fries are SUPER OILY and looked more like CRUMBS than actual full length fries, hense why they overfill your fry basket. As for the burgers, again NOTHING SPECIAL! Just your typical 4 oz cheddar burger (a double is available too). So...WHAT'S SO IMPRESSIVE ABOUT THIS PLACE? Out of all the hot dog places in Chicago, this was THEE WORST (BOTH IN APPEARANCE AND TASTE). I don't know how celebrities like George Clooney or anyone else can actually say they love this place. They must've been paid off to say such a thing, especially when Clooney was on Leno praising the place. Seriously, it looks like the place is about to be bulldozed to the ground. It literally looks like a shack in the parking lot between 2 buildings. And THERE IS NO BATHROOM!!! What are you supposed to do when you throwup the HORRIBLE TASTE IN YOUR MOUTH, let alone have to go; do it in the parking lot? I'm taking my business to Superdawg or Portillo's, at least their weiners are more filling.

Cons: EVERYTHING POSITIVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THIS PLACE IS A LIE, UNCLEAN FACILITY, RIPOFF PRICE for UNFILLING FOOD, NO BATHROOM, BUMS AND INSECTS ALL AROUND, GARBAGE OVERFLOWING, BROKEN FURNITURE

The wiener's circle is a typical example of what chicago has become. If you grew up in the city you went there a few times in high school and soon realized it was a tourist trap and filled with 20 somethings who party in the city. That's all it is for. Tourists and drunks who think its cool. It was cool when I was 14. Now its just stupid.

DO NOT EAT HERE.

My friend and I went in to buy a cheddar burger which costs $3.80 before tax and when our order came they tried to charged us $5.00 each, assuming we were unable to do basic math. We called them out on it and then they told us to get the f**k out an had the janitor act as some sort of bouncer. He insulted us as we left. I will never eat there again, because the business is run by black rascist price gougers.

The Wiener's Circle is just on par with many small Chicago dog stands that put out tasty, greasy, cheap eats, with the entertaining flair of customer/counter-help repartee . HOWEVER, it's popularity with drunken jerks looking for a fight with the outspoken counter help takes the normally entertaining interaction to a new and very disturbing level. Last time I was there, a very abusive customer nearly sparked a riot. They are going to have to put the counter behind bars soon to protect the staff. Never going there again. Ever.

If you are interested in food and not a call to 911 check out Hot Diggity Dog, Gold Coast Dogs (safe and classic customer/counter-help interaction) or the many family owned Gyros shops around town. For backyard grill flavor, ask for a char dog.

Indisputably overrated. I would love to hear an argument against this proclamation. The definition of the type of skuzzy spot people talk about to sound cool. Little do they know all the true heads are laughing in their general direction.

I know where you are going to go with this too. ?I just don?t get it.? No, I really do trust me - and more than that I really wanted to like this place to satisfy my dreams of being a d-bag who talks about it anytime people bring up Chicago dining so that people know just how hard I rep. However, all my hopes and dreams came crashing to the ground with a small serving of fries.

How is a spot so desperate to be the sneaky good spot amongst all the other rubble going to mess up cheese fries so much? How is a spot that only serves hot dogs and fries going to p*ss on the entire faith of cheese fry lovers everywhere? I blame it on the cluckboxes who permanently smudge their culinary opinion records by deeming wein circle an institution of any sort.

For those of you lucky enough to have abstained long enough to read this life changing glimpse into the utter overratedness that is wein circle, let me give you a brief description of these despicable cheese fries.

While quality cheese fries ala those offered by the likes of gods in the game like Portillos feature smooth, creamy cheese that beautifully envelopes the fries before satisfying your every desire, Weiner Circle uses straight cheddar that crustifies the fries before the sweet aroma can even reach your nose. My mom makes better cheese fries.

If this article can save one soul from a wasted meal at Weiner Circle, I will feel I succeeded. I hope that everyone will continue the search to find a spectacular diamond in the ruff much like Wein Circle dreams of being. However, you can be a diamond in the rough when every cluckstick in town not only knows about you but stupidly touts your grub.

The fries are good! The hot dogs are better! But the real reason to drive out of your way after a night of heavy drinking is to experience the wonder that is Wiener Circle. The wiener circle girls never dissapoint. In the battle between drunken Northside ex-frat boys and saucy wiener circle workers, the girls always win. Dinner AND a show!

As far as Chicago style dogs go, this place is about as average as it gets.
What is amazing is that this place exists in a High(ish) rent area.
Sparce seating, I suggest the window counter at least there's the ever changing view of street-life.

Yea, I stop here whenever I'm in the area and in the mood for a dog.
No, I don't make a special trip to this place, unless I'm entertaining someone that's bought into the "Rave" af this place.
BUT
All in all you gotta experience this at least once!

I always hear about how awesome this place is...most likely from people who don't know any better. I think A LOT less people would be eating there if they ever saw what goes down in the kitchen. I guess what you don't know won't hurt you right? And drunk people tend not to care about these things so....oh and the food...it is NOT as fresh as you think!

I travel from Colorado to Chicago every week, and I weekly scout out great little finds like this place!! These dogs are dang good!! I love the fact that they put the celery salt on the tomatos, so if you don't like celery salt on yer dog, you can ditch it easily.. While there some crazy guy even came in and tried to sell me a computer while I was eating my dogs and fries!! The girls at the counter gave him a look, and he left!! HA HA I have to go LATE some evening and see if the place gets even zanier late at nite as some reviewers have stated!!

If you're looking for a nice clean place to enjoy a dog...go somewhere else! The weiner circle is loud, rude, and crude! If you're a sensitive soul you may not like being screamed and swore at to begin or hurry your ordering along. Tons of fun and a great place to take unsuspecting out of towners! Not to be enjoyed before midnight (preferable about 3 am!)

Wrong. I don't understand what all the hype is about with this place. Maybe I need to be drunk to like it, but I went during lunch and was just overly dissapointed by my meal. I ordered up a hot dog special and cheese fries, after hearing so much about them on this site. They were disgusting! It is not cheese sauce, it is not real cheese, I have no idea what it is they put on the fries, but it tasted like yellow flour with a bit of water mixed in to make a paste. The hot dog was unimpressive as well. The staff was extremely disorganized (probably because they were yelling at the customers who weren't ready to order), and as a result, never asked for my money. No such thing as a free lunch? Well, on that day it was, and it still wasn't worth the price!

Hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken sandwiches or whatever other menu excuse it takes to allow the indulgence of the real reason to visit - the cheese fries. Only in Chicago. I've never had these kind of cheese fries anywhere else (other than prepared by someone who was from Chicago!). What's the big deal? The secret is in the Merkts-like cheese. You remember the cheese in the little plastic container your parents had a cocktail parties? Well here it is repurposed in all its cheesy glory over crispy, salty, can't get enough fries. I'll only admit it here: since I no longer live in Chicago, once during a layover at Midway I took a cab to Lincoln Park to pick up an order and turned around and headed back to catch my flight. Just call me crazy cheese fries lady!

Everyone makes too big a deal about the "character" of the place - yes, it's a shack, yes, the girls behind the counter aren't going to win any Miss Manners awards. But they _are_ friendly, especially if you're a regular, and the food is second to none. They have the best CHARDOGS and french fries in Chicago, which means the world. BTW You can order a half order of fries, and the Veggie burger is par excellence. Hurry down to the 'Circle because nothing is better!

There are three reasons to go to Wiener's Circle:

One, to have the help swear at you.

Two, to swear back at them.

Three, to get a great Chicago Style Vienna Beef dog and cheese fries. You have to go after the bars close. It's especially great to take friends who are new to town.

Three, to get a great Chicago Style Vienna Beef dog and cheese fries. You have to go after the bars close. It's especially great to take friends who are new to town.

I was craving a burger so I stepped into Weiner's Circle to try one out. I had heard of the legendary late night hot dog/insult fest, but I'll save that for another day. Anyway, the burger was great. The cheddar cheese sauce is an interesting twist on the traditional cheeseburger.

This place has been a classic for years, sassy attitude, not always for show, but usually needed. Cold in the winter, eat outside in the summer.

You gotta love a place that you can walk into at 1am on a saturday night with an empty stomach and a full mouth of cuss words. The food is fast, greasy, and delicious. The char dog with the works will knock your socks off. Eaters beware, plan on knowing what you want before you're up to order, 'cause if you're not, the employees will cuss you into the ground. TIP: Go ahead and cuss back because people always do in there :) its fun.

Pros: Good cheap food, Open late

Cons: No bathrooms, Messy environment

Probably one of the best places to bring an unsuspecting out-of-town guest late on a Friday or Saturday night for some post-bar, Chicago flavor. This is THE best hotdog in the city, bar none. The cheddar fries would make even the most descriminating Packers fan drool. The women working behind the counter are angry and potty-mouthed and will tear you a new one if you don't place your order quickly and clearly--you have to check it out.

Pros: Entertaining, Food

their's are by far the best fries available, since the demise of uncle frank's on north halsted in the late eighties. the weiner's circle serves only freshly peeled and sliced potatoes that have fried o a goden brown. no limp white or ever worse, the dreaded light green ones (yuck) available at so many other fast food eateries. I've been going to the weiner's circle since it first opened , i was living near north at the time , i now travel from my home in olympia fields , just for the fries!!! plus thre is plenty of shopping nearby at any one the many small shops in the area.

Pros: char broiled, authenic vienna produ, anyone might walk in

Cons: obviously for me, loc, climate ? control?

As if crispy fries hot from the fryer aren't good enough these folks throw cheese on them for a late night, need some grease, fill up!

The fact that they yell at you & treat you like an idiot puts Ed Debevics in its place.

The hot dogs & other stuff is equally great. They also have parking...amazing in Lincoln Park.

I was recently in Chicago for a wedding with my family. I was taken here after an evening of getting hammered with my cousin. We have alot of hot dog joints in Maine.....but nothing comes close to this one. It felt good to yell and cus at the employees. The service was awsome. Next time im in the city im definetly comming back.

So, most people show up drunk around 2am, but the food is fantastic sober, too. Why anyone would eat a hot dog (or hamburger for that matter) that's not off a char is beyond me. If you can stand the childish and offensive nature of the place, it's the best grease pit I've found in Chicago.

Step up to the counter and shout out your order, or you could be standing empty-handed for a long time at this bustling neighborhood joint. And that would be a shame--the char dogs rank among the best in Chicago. It's…
