I was referred to Dr. Kaplan by regular OB and a few friends who had previously gone through fertility treatments. While nobody would ever describe the IVF process as pleasant or fun, my husband and I found the entire process at FCI to be efficient and effective. As busy professionals, we appreciated the early morning appointments and that the doctors/nurses were typically on schedule (we rarely had to wait much past our scheduled appointment time). Some patients say it feels like a factory, we disagree and feel that FCI runs it as efficiently as possible given the high volume of patients.
We also found everyone at FCI to be extremely friendly and professional. The front desk staff, the nurses, and especially Dr. Kaplan seem to really understand and are sensitive to the fact that IFV can be a difficult and emotional time for the couples going through it.
My husband and I approached IVF with an open mind after reading stories from other couples. From our first meeting with Dr. Kaplan we knew we had found the right doctor for us. He is smart and confident in his abilities, which is what we were looking for. He acknowledged and understood our nerves, anxiety, and emotions and helped us understand that there are solutions to the issues we were facing. He has a reassuring yet realistic demeanor, which made us feel much more comfortable about our situation and the decisions we were making. As other reviewers mention, you will not see him every time you are there. To us, that makes sense. He is there for the most important parts and as needed. In the interim, he has a wonderful group of nurses to help with any and all questions and get him involved if necessary. We felt very informed throughout the process the nurses even taught us step by step how to use each medication (while my husband took video on his cell phone at their suggestion). Because it was our first time going through this, I still had a lot of questions. Nurse Jamie always got back to me promptly and never made me feel like I was asking a dumb question.
Leading up to the actual procedures, Dr. Kaplan literally held my hand to let me know everything was ok. One of our appointments was on a Sunday (during the Bears game) so he even invited my husband back to watch part of the game in his office while I was in a closed procedure. He made us both feel like we were his only patients which we clearly were not.
We were fortunate to have success the first time with IVF after a year of unsuccessful attempts with IUI and other treatments with my OB. As anyone going through IFV knows, each week brings about a new hurdle even after getting a positive blood test. When we were finally ready for our first ultrasound, we were excited but nervous at the same time. When we saw the heartbeat, the nurse so genuinely excited for us that it made the news that much better. It was such a pleasant way to end our process at FCI. Dr. Kaplan came in to congratulate us and wish us well.
Bottom line we have no complaints about Dr. Kaplan or FCI and would recommend them to anyone experiencing fertility issues.

If your case is simple you may be lucky to get pregnant. I completely agree with other reviews here. You are just one more there, a number. Dr. Edward Marut was the meanest doctor that i ever had and he doesn't have a clue how to treat you if your case requires a different approach. I can't believe that I waste my time and money there. The only good thing about the clinic is the staff. They are friendly and always willing to help. I left the clinic with a huge depression. The only thing that i kept hearing from Dr.Marut was that I was too old to have babies (with 38 years old) and needed a donor egg.
I ended up going to another clinic out of state (Colorado). The doctors there found out what was my problem right away and I had a healthy baby with my own eggs.
My husband wanted to sue FCI but I was so sick of them that I just let it go. Don't waste your money, your time and your mind there!!!!

I'm perplexed by the negative reviews, and have to draw the conclusion they are submitted by people who did not have a successful pregnancy. The comments about you feeling like cattle, etc. are true - when you are scheduled for your daily blood work - it has to be quick, why waste time? You should be able to get in-get out quick. I applaud them for the way they can keep things moving. All things considered, my wife and I went there in 2004, and again in 2008 and had TWO successful pregnancies which blessed us with 2 amazing girls. I had to chime in here as when doing a search on Doctor Kaplan for a friend I came across this review site and wanted to ensure there was a positive review from someone who had a positive experience. Dr. Kaplan (and his direct staff (Liz) went above and beyond for us. In fact, on Christmas eve of 2004 my wife began experiencing the adverse reaction to the drugs resulting in OHSS. We had contacted FCI and spoke directly with Dr. Kaplan who told us NOT to go to the ER, but to go directly to the center in Highland Park and he'd be there waiting for us (with his lab tech, Liz). He immediately recognized the problem (and also explained it was a sure sign she was pregnant) as OHSS, and unfortunately had to "drain" my wife??s abdomen of fluid to relieve the pressure, all without medication.... Now remember, these people came in on Christmas Eve - they were closed, we were the only people in the center... That is caring my friends. And the care you like to see from a doctor. My poor wife went through about 2 hours of pain, but in the end he relieved her of her pain and it resulted in the successful birth of our first. If we had gone to an ER, who knows what would have happened. We went to him for our second IVF and no issues.. He was as pleasant and focused/attentive. I am thankful that FCI exists and owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to Dr. Kaplan and his team (Specifically Liz). For those talking about money - are you really complaining about the price of something that is statistically proven to be extremely low in terms of success? You take that risk when you go through these procedures. Of course it's going to cost a lot of money just think of what they're doing here?

I believe going through infertility treatments is a very personal and emotional experience. This clinic has nothing to offer anyone with any sensitivities. My husband and I had to drive 2 hours to the River North Clinic. We arrived 15 minutes early and there was noone at the desk to greet us. Then we filled out a small paper and sat down. When they called my name the woman behind the desk shouts out "What are you here for?" seriously! This is a very private situation for me and I didn't need the whole room full of couples to know what I was there for. What about HIPAA laws? They wouldn't leave me a voicemail on my cell because my name wasn't on my message but it's ok for them to tell the whole room what I am doing there. This started off my day badly. Next, they take my husband away and a nurse came in for me to change my concent forms.. again...seriously?? then when it was time for my procedure I had to walk half naked by all the open doors and then in the surgery room I felt very uneasy the way they just prop up your legs like you are there for an oil change. I am not happy with the way they made me feel there... I'm just hoping all this trouble is worth it in the end.....

I'm very happy with Dr. Beltsos and her staff!!! I hate to read the bad reviews because I have had an exceptional experience at FCI. I consider her nurses Fran and Jen to friends, I have been through a lot of ups and downs during treatment and I could always rely on them to check in on me during the process. I had my new patient appointment about 9 months ago and had postponed treatment for 3 months due to a family emergency but when I came back they remembered me by just my face and they even asked how my mother was doing!! I knew then that I was in the hands of people who care and that I was not a number to them. There is so many wonderful things I can say about Dr. Beltsos too! I had called her late one night because I had messed up one of my IVF meds, She seemed almost happy to talk to me and reviewed my cycle so far with me and gave me a little pep talk. If your not a Dr. Beltsos patient this may be hard to understand but her passion and drive are magnetic when you meet with her --- she gives your such a positive energy and the feeling that she won't give up. I'm happy to say I have been discharged to my Ob but I'm going to miss my FCI team!

I was very disappointed at FCI. The lack of communication and professionalism is astounding. It is difficult to have faith in your physician and his staff in this type of environment. I just began the process at FCI so my review is based purely on my experience and not the outcome of treatment. The issue seems to be that the staff at FCI have poor documentation and this can lead to errors and misunderstandings.

Many have commented that they feel like a number at FCI. I wouldn't even mind being a number if everything were documented in my chart and I felt confident that my medical history and treatment plan were understood by all those involved in my care. Sadly this does not seem to be the case at FCI. It seems that the staff operate under protocols much like providers in training rather than experienced professionals. I would not recommend treatment at the River North location. I cannot speak to the other FCI locations.

I am not quite sure what to say about FCI. I am not pregnant after 4 months, but that is not really the issue. The nurses were nothing but nice and professional, and they got me in and out pretty quickly. My main issue is that I did not meet with my doctor EVER after the initial consultation, and I'm sure he could tell that I was a little uneasy after that meeting. His nurse was very helpful, however, but even she seemed rushed and as if she has too many patients to tend to. I am very much considering stopping treatment, and I highly doubt that my doctor will follow up with me to see what happened. Also, the office staff is usually very good about scheduling appointments, however, there were a couple of instances when I absolutely could not come in at the times available and they were not accomodating (and the dates for appointments are very specific). While I realize that making a baby is a top priority, many of us still have real life obligations that we cannot change with very last minute notice (EX: you need to come back TOMORROW morning, but we only have an appointment at 10 am). When I arrived very early for my appointment, the nurses were not busy at all and were more than happy to take me early. The nurses totally run the show at this place, as they should because they are really the only ones that are doing anything most the time. My doctor was very nice and I liked him personally, however, I don't like that I have not had any contact with him at all in 8 months. When we discontinue treatment, my husband wants to meet with him to explain why we are not fully satisfied, but we would have to pay yet again to meet with him personally. With all of that being said, I do find FCI to be a reputable place, with highly qualified doctors and staff. They were even willing to give me a month free of an expensive drug (that was donated). I just cannot back them fully knowing that I am still questioning some aspects of treatment.

I LOVE this place. Go here, do not pass go. Get Dr. Kaplan, he is the best, the staff is the most friendly place ever.
If you read any other reviews (as I did) they are absolutely incorrect.
River north clinic is incredible from the nurses, the Ultrasound people, secretaries EVERYTHING. I actually enjoy going there as it is so pleasant. Love River north clinic. You will too.

OH, and to the lady who switched to Northwestern with Dr. Kazer? That's where I CAME from. You wanna feel like cattle and never see your doctor? go to him. :)

I see Dr. Lifchez and Donna. I am very friendly ( glass half full kinda gal) so, my experience are mostly great from everyone at every location I have been to. Due to the flood I went to Glenview several times and they were super sweet even though I was late by 15 minutes or so. My first IUI was unsuccessful and about to go through egg retrieval this week for 1st IVF. I get quick responses via email from Donna & Dr. Lifchez so, I feel confident since my concerns are addressed at any time of the day! Yes, it I am rushed and the staff & doctor seem stressed at times, but overall they are sensitive healthcare providers. I don't care if they discuss procedures w/ me in the hallway....they had a flood - be adaptable and communicative. I saw Dr. Levin in Buffalo Grove ( nice guy but he immediately wanted me to start IVF at our first brief meeting since I was 40 yrs old. ) luckily, Dr. Lifchez gave me statistics and left it up to me without scaring me to go aggressive immediately. Dr. Kaplan's ast. Amanda is supa sweet and was great with the IUI. Upset that nurses do the IUI? wait till u are in a hospital that is the way everything goes! Nurses do fricking everything everywhere these days sad but true. FCI is not perfect but nor am I at all of my 645am appointments. Good luck!

They did a very good business with me. They made me to pay $ 25,000. they did 2 IVF fresh cycles and 1 frozen cycle. none of them got success. I really disappointed with this kind of treatment. I feel I wasted my money and I had a lot of stress they always gave me last minute surprizes when using medications.

bottom line this FCI center will just grab the money if your insurance pay for IVF you can try with this center. I hope when we dont have money tentions also we may have live birth.

I really disappointed with this FCI.

Guys please let me know any of your insurance is paying for IVF treatment, so that I can go for any private insurance where i need to pay less money with insurance.

You can reach me at awareof333@yahoo.com

FCI is the BEST! Go to a smaller pracitce if you want a limited success rate. When I go to FCI River North all I want is to be in and out so they are welcome to herd me so I can get to work. The ultrasound techs spend time talking to you and ease you through the procedure. The lab techs do talk a lot but they keep the flow going and always make me feel comfortable. The nursing staff calls back with results in the afternoon and if I need something I can always call or email them. My physician may not always be available but I know that if there was an emergency or if I had a major concern that the doctor would be there for me. This is a doctors office and the fact that a lot of people that write reviews on here are hopping that service here could be like a starbucks or mcdonalds is crazy! DOCTOR's OFFICE people -- this is not a store. We all choose to come here and we can choose not too as well. Of course they are going to bill us and ask for copays theyare providing a service! I would love to go to starbucks and skip the line and get a coffee and not pay but obviously we only expect this at our doctor's office :).

Feel like I am just an ATM machine or cash cow to them every time I walk into the Highland Park office. Majority of staff show zero compassion. Virtually all communication is with the nurses with information given out on a "need to know" basis. Privacy is not fully respected, with instructions often being given to patients while they are standing in the hallway. Can you say "HIPAA violation"? Yes, Dr. Feinberg is very nice, but she is not the person you will be dealing with the majority of the time. Also, I did not feel that she was forthcoming with the true probability of success of the treatments she was recommending to us (i.e., we were quoted pregnancy rates, not live birth rates, for statistics). Bottom line, there is no privacy or dignity in pursuing fertility treatments at this office, and I don't have any reason to believe that their success rate is better than anyone else's.

Just experienced a vey unpleasant cycle. Due to the chicago office flooding, all patients straggled through highland park. the transfer day was a nightmare. I waited alone in my surgical gown for 3 hours while listening to nurses chat about all the cases. The first indication I had that my embryos were not of high quality was hearing dr. feinberg tell a medical student that they were bad quality outside of my curtain. I processed that info for 10 mins before anyone told me. After the transfer they said "ok, good luck..." I thought you were supposed to lay quietly for a few mins at least?? so, i walked back to my curtained cubie and quickly got dressed...all the nurses and docs are standing outside chatting. I had to interrupt their chat to ask if it was ok to leave now. NICE!!! Hopeful that this cycle is a success, but, if not, I am switching docs. My doc is very nice but you rarely see or talk to your doc the entire cycle. It feels like once they get your $$ you are moved through as quickly as possible.

I worked with with Dr. Feinberg for a little over 6 months from January - August 2010. I got great care from the entire office staff including the front desk, the office manager and the ultrasound techs. My first cycle (IUI) ended in miscarriage and Dr. Feinberg held my hand and gave me a hug after telling me the sad news. She called to check in on me the next day just to see how I was doing. I then got pregnant on my third IUI attempt I am now back at my OBs office. My OB office feels like way more of a factory than the fertility clinic!! I would highly recommend Dr. Feinberg and her entire staff.

FCI HP was a mixed bag for me. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Feinberg. She was very patient and responsive to any questions or concerns I had. She always returned my emails and phone calls with 24 hours. She even called me from a funeral! I did three IVF cycles with her before becoming pregnant, and I was not an easy case.

Overall the nursing staff was fine. They always called on time with my medication protocol and tests results for the following day. They took blood efficiently. There was an incident, however, where I had to email the head nurse several times and call her to get my calendar for the month. Also, I notified the doctor on call once for back pain I was having which I was unsure related to my treatment, and that doctor gave me wrong medication instructions. Also, on my last cycle, the ultrasound technician misread how many follicles I had by quite a substantial amount.

I am now pregnant and have several embryos frozen. Overall, I would recommend FCI because of my experience with Dr. Feinberg, but not for any other significant reason.

FCI is a blood and money sucker Center. Nurses call you for frequent follow up than required. Being a Physician myself, I know that perform blood analysis on more than what is required. My wife had crude response from the head nurse After six months of treatment and 3 unsuccessful treatments we had met our Dr. less than three times and she took a long time to go through our case during the last time we met her. did not recognized me on our last meeting.
The nurses run the show at FCI via rigid protocols. I expected a more personalized care for the amount of money they were charging us for. Nurses are confused and lack of communication and directive from the doctor. CAUTION. READ THIS BEFORE MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT.

We went the worst phase of our life when we were being treated at FCI Lindenhurst. Dr. Nani just met with us once in our 3 month association. The entire show was being run by the head nurse (Susan). She was the most pessimistic, arrogant, uncompassionate person on this planet. Acted as if she knew more than the doctor.

Secondly the receptionist, who takes care of the billing, is dumb and does deliberate mistakes to charge more towards your insurance. Always reminds you about pending insurance settlements and asking the patient to pay and file a claim with the insurance company.

After 2 unsuccessful attempts I transferred to another clinic. Glad it is all over.

The best way to sum up FCI is you are just a number. I currently went through egg retrieval and I as so disappointed with the lack of patient respect and borderline Patient Abandonment. I am considering moving my to be frozen eggs to a different clinic. You will never see or speak to a doctor during your cycle. You are not informed who will be performing procedures until 10 minutes before. The try and hurry you out. EmBryologist Colleen Wahner-c. Is the most unprofessional member of the staff. If she can not even be helpful to answering question and providing a sence of compassion toward others why would I want her working on my embryos . Needs people skills. When attempting to contact a dr no one will give an email address.
I am a healthcare provider and I believe all patients should be treated with care and respect. I know it is hard to handle so much volume but we are not cattle. If you like being a number this is thebplace for you. As a medical professional I expect more.

We met with Dr. Kaplan at our initial consult. He did not go through my file and the appt. lasted all of 15 min which coming from Rush seemed a bit odd from a Doctor. His nurse who you are handed over to was very nice but also seems to rush you along which for a first appt with a lot of information to go over struck me as odd. We decided to go with IUI and before we started all perscriptions were given timely which was good. Then the monitoring began....first the FCI clinic in River North Flooded so getting calls back and feeling as though not a sole knew seemed to be protocal however they relocated the office not to far away which was good. I could not see us staying and traveling up to Highland Park for all of this. However, nurses did not email that to their patients so if you happen to go online finally they posted they temp moved so that should of been a manager's job...phone current patients or email them and let them know where they are now located or place it on their voicemail--again too much personal service to even do that. As far as being herded around like cattle that person nailed the feeling here at FCI. I don't care if you are there for bloodwork/ultra sound a bunch of women out in the open being called if your lucky by your correct name then you hurd into a room for an ultra sound and when the door opens and you are half naked EVERYONE can see you--SERIOUSLY! Then you have these stupied women that bring their 3 year olds to the clinic while they are in a waiting room with 50 other people and the kids are screaming running around coughing all while you are trying to collect your thoughts or be calm while reading a magazine before you go and see your monthly fate. Bloodwork nurses are good and quick but it seems to be dirty in there the entire office not clean with a kitchen out in the open--how about putting a shower curtain there so we don't have to look at all the dirty equipment soaking in soap and water in the open. Then there is ONE bathroom which is filthy how about cleaning it every hour? Ok so after that we FINALLY are ready to get our IUI now I have only met my doctor Kaplan once when to my and my husband's surprise Dr. Kaplan doing the IUI procedure or perhaps even stopping by and saying hello NOPE! It was his nurse who did the procedure!!!! Did NOT EVEN SEE DR. KAPLAN! OMG!! So while the nurse was super sweet is she a doctor NO!! So we are paying all of this money to have a NURSE do an IUI procedure! That was it for me and my husband who goes to Northwestern for most of his doctors was there and finally believed me on this horrible expierience. This is the most important part of our lives for now and I came to FCI to receive the best care and perhaps a WOW expierience considering the sensative nature of this process. Dr. Kaplan seems to be a slick character who I'm guessing doesn't even know or look through his patients files. Sure if we were on IVF spending double perhaps we may get a second visit with him?!?! I'm not going with FCI for IVF if this does not work my husband already contacted his doctor at Northwestern who recommended Dr. Kazar and because the doctor heard how upset we were with FCI/Kaplan they got us an appointment early next month if our IUI does not work which no offense to the sweet nurse who BTW I had never met before that's not who I took on as my Doctor. This is not the WOW expierience that others seem to rave about. I'm giving you exactly what happend and perhaps these other raving fans are the nurses that should be taking care of less patients and I feel sorry that this place overworks and I'm sure under pay their staff. Dr. Kaplan you did not fool me or my husband with your slick trying to over do it just to get us in the door. Heck if I do ever see you again not that you would remember me I would tell you all of this to you personally. BTW I have left him numerous messages with no calls back from him! As other true people say on here RUN from FCI River North and go to a REAL doctor that see you as a patient and offer professional service.

I had a good experience with FCI. As you can tell from most of the reviews, whether you conceived and carried to term has a lot to do with your opinion of the place. We have twin 23 month old boys-two embryos transferred and two little guys as a result. So, you can take this review for what it is, a satisfied customer/patient who is going back. As for the comments about it being a 'baby making factory'--well, I hope so! As for feeling like you are being herded like cattle (at River North) that is true. However, everyone that I dealt with was very pleasant. I am happy that they get you in and out quickly. Given the number of times you need to go in for bloodwork and other tests, I am happy to be 'herded' if it increases efficiency. I am not there to waste time. I went to another place that was bigger on the 'charm' and felt less herded, but I wasted tons of time. The only major issue I had at FCI was with one of the nurses who really sucked at drawing blood. She blew through three vessels in one session so that in subsequent visits they had to draw from the back of my hand and even my thumb (ouch!). After two times with her screwing things up, I refused to have her draw blood and spoke to the lab manager. The response was very positive and immediate. I never had to deal with the situation again. So, I guess I am saying that FCI worked for me and I wasn't bothered by what I saw as an efficient practice. I just made appointments with the doctor when I wanted or needed to speak with him. Being a money making business and a good fertility center for patients are not mutually exclusive. FCI is both. They want your money and they want you to have babies.

in february of 2009, I went to the ER because of really bad cramping and after 17 years of having my daughter and not being able to have more children,I come to find out that I was pregnant. as you all can imagine with all that pain I was going true a misscarage, it was really hard for me but after some time. I did some research to find a great doctor to help me determend what was going on, I found the fertility center of illinois.I got very excited to find doctor Eve C. Feinber in their web site she is discribe as exceptionally compassionate, and that she takes great pride in providing personalize care to each individual couple. I didnt have this experience no compassion or personalize care, it was so bad. I cry after an exam she did . when she finish the exam she took her gloves off and ignore me, just walk out of the room, when I asked the nurse what was going on she said well youre tubes are bloked so if you want to have a baby you need invitro and that treatment is about $22.000 and your health INS dosent cover this so" go home and have you're self a good cry and see what you want to do.I asked her well is their anything else I can do? she said let me ask the doctor when she came back she said well the doctor said to make another appointment and she will talk about it with you. this was a really bad experienced for me specially after going true a misscarage and to find doctors and nurses not to be understanding of others pain and suffering it's very heart breaking and unproffesional on their part. I wish you all good luck in findind some one who will really try to help and respect you as a human been.

River North--Talk about feeling like you are cattle as one person above noted agreed! However, I feel like I'm at a deli and I'm just a number or better yet a type of ham! There is no personal service and you don't even see your doctor. One consult if that is what you call it since it lasts like 10 min then you see your Doctor in the halls of the office as you are being herd around and doesn't even know you are his patient. THe nurses thus far have been great but delayed on response as I'm sure they are over their heads. Also the vibe is down and negative the can barely have time to look you in the eye and say good morning or hello and I think its wrong when going through one of the most personal important stages in your life. They need leadership training or better yet perhaps some time off and take less people then we would get better service and bring back patients. I can say that Northwestern has a great faculty and you feel as though you are a patient NOT CATTLE or a piece of meat to be sliced and diced. So I left this god awful place and now pregnant with twins and so happy!!! At first I thought these reviews were false but please read and take note this is NOT the place for such an important time funny how I say place and not doctors because you never see the doctors here. RUN away from this place they will take your money and rob you of your mind for a few months!!!!

WE CAN NOT RECOMMEND FCI TO ANYONE!
NO follow-up. NO plan. NO communications.

No matter the doctor, be ready to wait at least a month to get a first appointment. When we got in, it was an immediate push for blood-tests and then NOTHING. We thought maybe it was our fault so we even went back a couple of years later; this time to a female-gender doctor. Even worse! Mind you, this is after we HAD to register as an infertile couple with our healthcare provider. (Every procedure is on a checklist and that is that; no more and no less.)

I've tried to put down our experience clearly and as accurately as possible.

Dr. Marut of FCI:

First meeting with Dr. Marut and my husband and I about 2.5 years ago...Dr. Marut told my husband to not interrupt him as he was speaking. Yes. That was shocking. Aren't WE the ones paying? Then we found out that in the highly recommended blood tests that day, the lab ran tests without our knowledge or approval or signature. NO follow-up. NO plan. NO communications.

Dr. Beltsos of FCI:
Two initial meetings, over a 2 year time period, with Dr. Beltsos were hopeful. But then we never could get a return call from the nursing staff or Dr. Beltsos when we "started".

We even ordered medication from a Boston pharmacy to start as per the paper packet instructed. Not one nurse returned our 3 phone calls so as to know when or how to use the syringe/injection. And it's still sitting in the refrigerator.

DON'T give this BIG FCI machine your time, money, hopes because you WILL be disappointed with their lack of consideration and follow through. NO follow-up. NO plan. NO communications.

Think of this, they are trying to see as many women, do as many procedures as fast as possible to get as much money as possible.

If you can't get through their phone system, be very forceful then you don't get the exams, blood work, sperm samples or inseminations done as written out in their schedule. And once the procedure is done, then our healthcare provider will not pay for it again.

IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE to understand their process. I was TOLD when to be in the office according to the doctor's schedule, never mind my job. So we finally realized that we would have to spend more money, out of pocket, to stock pile my husband's sperm (not covered), as he travels a lot for work.

There is something very, very wrong about this entire system of FCI.

We can not recommend this to anyone...no matter the "scientific" expertise of the physicians, their Achilles' heel is their lack of follow through and customer care; and that FCI is a large machine that churns through a lot of people/women and WE got lost in it.

This is a very important part of our lives and it should not be handled with poor care.

We are so blessed to live in a city where the best fertility treatments and physicians are available to us. I treated successfully with Dr. Kaplan and his staff. While I did not always deal with Dr. Kaplan directly, the nurses and technicians were supportive alternatives. In a busy practice, I was grateful to be receving the best care. I would recommend this place to anyone, but do not be surprised if the large and bustling fertility practice does not have time to make you their only priority. There are thousands of people seeking treatment for infertility in this city and you are just one of them.

As for those who refer to the practice with derision as a "Baby Factory," there is little to be said. Aren't we all going there to get a baby?

We are so blessed to live in a city where the best fertility treatments and physicians are available to us. I treated successfully with Dr. Kaplan and his staff. While I did not always deal with Dr. Kaplan directly, the nurses and technicians were supportive alternatives. In a busy practice, I was grateful to be receving the best care. I would recommend this place to anyone, but do not be surprised if the large and bustling fertility practice does not have time to make you their only priority. I am really disappointed with the Lindenhurst office. Every time I went in something else was wrong and they blamed me. Everything from telling me I hadn't paid when I did (3 times) Sue told me that she use to keep track but it was too much hassle. Then she made an appointment without consulting me. Hello! Honestly there are so many things that went wrong, I decided to stop before I started the complete cycle because I can't trust them and this is very important. I am happy for those of you who got pregnant - Please BEWARE I told Dr Nani 3 times I wasn't on this medication and she still had it in my file I was. i cannot go through every since thing that went wrong because this is already very difficult and I just want to move on.

I've been treated at FCI Lindenhurst. Personally I've had the "WORST" experience with the head Nurse (Susan). She was arrogant, rude at times, jumped to her own conclusion even before she consulted the doctor. Also had less to NO interaction with the doctor. WORST service.

I had the most amazing experience with FCI. I LOVE Dr. Jacobs, I saw him in Crystal Lake. I also had the MOST AMAZING ultrasound tech, Roberta, who took so much time to explain everything we saw on the screen, answer questions, she was so sweet and cared so much! Lisa was my favorite nurse, always took time to answer all of my questions and so friendly, and Sabrina our IVF coordinator was amazing! She even called after we got our test results from Lisa just to congratulate us,and said she couldn't wait to call but wanted our home office nurse to be able to tell us first.
We got pregnant with our first IVF there, and the protocol Dr. Jacobs put me on made me respond 4 times better than a previous cycle at a different clinic. We had 21 eggs vs 8 and 5 made it to day 5 blastocyst vs none making it to day 3 at the other clinic. This was our 4th clinic, so I am pretty picky!

I am 7 weeks pregnant, and we just lost one of the twins to vanishing twin syndrome, and on his own, Dr. Jacobs took the initiative to email and call to check on me and answer any questions I might have. He was also always available by email anytime to answer any questions, and all we had to do was ask the nurse if we had a specific question on the phone to be answered.

As for their statistics, FCI does have good statistics, but also does take on many patients that other clinics won't. This does affect the outcome of results, but again, I am picky and was impressed with their statistics!
I have a feeling that a competitor may be at work in many of these negative reviews, that only make complaints about statistics and staff, but mention nothing of their cycle or outcome! I think it's sad, as the three experiences I had at Highland Park, and 1 at Buffalo Grove were also equally as wonderful. I had less wait time, then I ever had, at any other dr's office before

FCI took me in, when I had been told I had premature ovarian failure (Dr. Jacobs, and my 21 eggs beg to differ.)
Advanced Fertility didn't want to do any testing, and wanted to go straight to IVF, and Dr. Karande at InVia wanted to do laproscopy for endometriosis before any other testing or trying anything else, even though he didn't think I had endometriosis, but just wanted to rule it out.

Go see Dr. Jacobs at Crystal Lake! He, Sabrina, Roberta, and Lisa are the BEST TEAM! All the staff from the receptionists, to the lab techs, to the anesthesiologist were so amazing, and friendly! After over 3 years of TTC, we are so happy to have a little baby on the way and finally be parents thanks to FCI!!!

Two years ago, we came to FCI to undergo treatment at the recommendation of some friends who had gotten pregnant under Dr. Kaplan. Our friends had been rejected from other clinics, and FCI was their last shot. With their success, we were inspired and wanted to give it a try. Three failed IUI's, and one successful IVF later, we got pregnant. And let me
note, that we had 1 viable embryo on a 3 day transfer and Highland Park was still able to make it happen. We are now awaiting news for a recent IVF attempt. We owe so much to this clinic, and especially Dr. Kaplan. Is it a warm and fuzzy place? No, but they are willing to help just about anyone, and they have certainly made our dreams come true. At the end of the day, I could care less about bedside manners and a friendly receptionist. They do a ton procedures which I believe helps them to make better decisions, they take tough cases without worrying about statistics, and help a lot of couples have babies. Whatever clinic you decide on, I wish you well. Just be sure to look beyond the CDC website, as it's impossible for statistics to give the entire picture.

In reference to the Highland Park facilities: racial, sexual, and religious slurs are the norm combined with an abusive work environment. Do you really want to give your money to an organization where people use words like the "n-word" (which i had to modify from it's original in order to post to this forum), dot-head, terrorist, dike, fag, and sneer when referring to jews and muslims? Workers are yelled at in front of fellow staff and patients. There is a general arrogance that poisons the quality of treatment. The staff is overworked, angry, and the most back-stabbing group of individuals I've ever encountered. It is a completely disgusting and dysfunctional operation. I highly suggest going elsewhere to meet your infertility needs.

Overall, I had a great experience with FCI. I had previously seen Dr. Sherbahn at AFCC and he told me that donor egg was my only option. I am 32 years old and my FSH is 22. He refused to do IVF with me using my own eggs. Basically, he was trying to protect his statistics. I went for second opinions with 2 other doctors and ended up with Dr. Feinberg at Highland Park. While she did tell me that donor egg would definitely give me a higher chance of success, she stressed the fact that my age was more important and that I was young. She explained that FCI's statistics may look worse on paper (admittedly they do...) BUT that because they will give anyone a chance, that is the reason why. They don't "cherry pick" their patients like other clinics. Thank goodness, because even though I only had 3 eggs retrieved and needed super high doses of medicines, I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. If it weren't for FCI, I probably would never have gotten pregnant. I had a truly great experience there, loved the nurses, loved the ultrasound techs (especially Jay!!) and really can't make sense of the horrible reviews on this board. I just cannot believe it is the same practice that I went to. FCI Rocks!

In reference to the Oak Brook and Glenview Locations. Avoid as they are borderline criminal in their billing practices. They "claimed" we were not insured, which is false, so we had to pay for all of the services up front. I submitted the claims to my insurance company and they reinbursed us their portion of the charges promptly. When I approached FCI, they refused to pay me the portion of the bill they owed us, even though the EOB clearly stated the amount. In addition they charged us for services and then also billed our insurance, so when I went to submit my claims some were denied. In essence the clinic was double billing. They also started adding charges to our account after we left the office, stating that they were "mistakes." While we have gotten pregnant with them, I would not recommend anyone to use them. The hassles I continue to go through to ensure we are billed properly are something no one should have to go through. There are too many fertility centers out there, if you don't want stress and hassle , go somewhere else.

Well, after a long period of fertility problems, I'm finally pregnant! Here's my story with FCI. I went to several locations because if I wasn't happy with the folks at a location, I'd change. I went to River North, it was too impersonal for such a personal matter, for me at least. Nobody ever knew or cared who I was. I went to Buffalo Grove, where the ladies seemed more interested in chatting with each other than providing care and support for patients. They would often be on the phone and reveal the patient's name and personal things in very clear earshot of everyone. I should say that the ultrasound techs were nice and did a good job though. Then I went to Highland Park, the worst yet. Lots of staff who seemed to just stand around doing nothing at the front desk while the waiting room overflowed with patients. I ended up in Glenview, a great experience! I highly recommend this office. My IVF retrieval and transfer was at Highland Park with a doctor I had not met before and was not warned about the change in doctors. This put a lot of stress on me when I least needed it. It's unprofessional. They could have just given me a heads up. That's why I rated 4 stars. I liked him though and it did result in a BFP so I can't complain! I'm over 35 and pregnant on first IVF!

All of My experiences were great at the Hoffman Estates location. From the receptionists to the nurses to the u/s tech and finally the doctor. Dr Nani was great! Cathy, Vita, Nora and Sallyann always answered all of my questions, called me back, got me in if I forgot to set up an appointment. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with TWINS, and can not thank FCI enough!!!!! We had the procedure at the River North office. All of the nurses there were friendly and professional as well. We only had to go through ONE IVF cycle. My first appointment with them was in May and I was pregnant in July. They understand our needs as want to be parents and are very accomodating. I read some of these postings while I was going through my cycle, and started to get nervous, but nothing I experienced even came close. I felt as if everone in the office really cared about my outcome. THANKS FCI HOFFMAN ESTATES!!! You made all of our dreams of having a big family possible!!!!

ME: Under the age of 30, perfect tubes, everything working with the spouse, almost perfect day 5 blastocysts, no other known infertility factors, BUT NOT PREGNANT after IUI and IVF cycles. Switched to different (non-FCI) doctor and pregnant after one IVF cycle!

FCI: CHECK THE CDC RATES and FCI doesn't even beat the national average. Additionally, they don't perform well as compared to other Chicago area fertility docs. (again, check out the CDC info.) The other posts are correct - you are hearded through like cattle (They do the second largest volume of business nationally according to most recent '06 published CDC info.) with minimal contact with doctors. You are given instructions from the nurses via phone...I never met my nurses face to face as they are staffed in a calling location. The nurses mostly determine your "protocols" and change things without consulting the doctor..in other words, the protocols are scripted and not individualized. A different doctor (all of whom I never met prior) performed IVF transfers each time. My main doc. never did a procedure. Poor bedside manner...loud music in the lab while transfer taking place, inappropriate comments by staff, HIPA violations (discussing your care in hallways and lobby areas). Judging by their live birth rates, I have to question their trasfer techniques and lab environment. The only pleasant thing I can offer is that some of the nurses who take blood and some of the ultrasound techs. were nice.

The physicians are brilliant scientists and the laboratories second to none, but the business itself needs much more professionalism and wholesale improvements must be made in the way it is run. It is painfully clear that there is no leadership at this place to speak of. We had babies due to great doctors, but if they were not great doctors, if they were any other type of business, they'd be out of business because of the way they run their business.

The experiences with the doctors were all positive. Unfortunately, you rarely talk to the doctors. The majority of my interactions were with the nurse at Hoffman Estates. Very unprofessional and rude. During my IVF cycle, the office experienced layoffs thereby reducing the quality of my care. They are also looking for other ways to cut costs (ie. going to larger, more painful, needles for blood draws). The day of my pregnancy test, the nurse told me "I bet you're pregnant". You can imagine my disappointment when I got the call 5 hours later that the results were negative. Again, very unprofessional, not to mention insensitive. Look elsewhere.

They claim they deliver more babies than the next 10 clinics combined--it's because they have more locations, and see a ton more patients. They herd their patients like cattle through the process. All they care about is making money--they have a lot of hidden costs.

If you want personal care, do not go here.

I had a great experience at FCI. I was referred to Dr. Jacobs in Buffalo Grove, and I have to disagree with those who say that they are worried about their stats. I was a case that very few other doctors would even let me in the door. As a matter of fact, my hormone levels indicated that I was about to go into menopause- at 34. Dr. Jacobs allowed me to try IVF cycles. He was supportive, but realistic (our chances of conceiving even with IVF were less than 10%). It took 4 IVF cycles, but I am now 29 weeks pregnant with twins. If he had been worried about his stats, he never would have let me in the door, except to use donor egg.

I did my IVFs at River North, and while I realize that they do a lot of volume out of that facility, I always felt taken care of- I knew the nurses and techs on a first name basis. Of course, I was a "frequent flyer", but the nurses were caring and outstanding with me. My second IVF, when NO eggs were retrieved from my follicles, I remember that two of the nurses started crying with me. Even my IVF coordinator, Marcia (out of Lindenhurst) was great. She and Dr. Jacobs were always available to answer questions via email and my calls were always promptly returned. Dr. Jacobs always followed up with an email after my pregnancy tests, either to send his condolences, or as in the last time, share his excitement.

Having said that, I will say that I wasn't thrilled with the receptionists at Buffalo Grove all the time. But really, it was a small issue for me, as I made sure that I did all of my monitoring at River North, where I felt taken care of.

Overall, my experience was amazing. I would recommend Dr. Jacobs to anyone.

I wanted to write a positive review for all the couples that are trying to get pregnant. My husband and I went through 2 cycles of insemination that didn't work then Dr. Nani said how about IVF I had 10 frozen embryo's I did 1 frozen cycle and I had some complications but the nurses and Dr. Nani helped me through it. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks into the pregnancy. I transferred 3 more embryo's on July 4, 2007 and I now have a son that is 11 months old and he is the best thing that ever happened to me and my husband. I have gone back to talk to Dr. Nani about my 4 last frozen embryo's and I have been working very close with my nurse and Dr. Nani and sometimes your body just doesn't like to cooperate and that is not the Dr's fault or nurses. So I am on some fertility shots now and I am hopping my body does react to the medicine and Dr. Nani will transfer my last 4 embryo's and my son will have a baby brother or sister or maybe both... Fertility is all about patients and if you are suppose to have a child in this world you will. Anything is possible. I hope this helped anyone that thought that FCI was not a good place to go... I love the people there and everyone is very kind and understanding.

After being told from a previous Fertility Clinic in Hoffman Estates that my egg quality was poor at at the age of 33 and would never be able to use my own eggs I started to lose hope. I had 2 failed IVF cycles from this clinic(in Hoffman Estates) and was told you don't respond well to injectables and you must use donor eggs. I decided to try FCI. The staff at Crystal Lake is always very personable, their always available to get in contact with if you have any questions. The nurses always call with instructions and never have I had an issue with no one being available. My third IVF cycle at FCI was successful and I now have a healthy 8 month old. Both my transfers and retrievals were at Highland Park and I had no issues at all over there. Dr Jacobs was wonderful always available even by personal e-mail if any questions are needed to be answered. I was give hope at this clinic and I'm planning on returning 2/09 for my next successful IVF.

I saw all these negative reviews and felt I have to write one as I had a very positive experience and have two healthy children thanks to FCI. Other inferitility doctors told me I could only do expensive invitro treatment...I had all but given up on the idea. After speaking with Dr. Rapisarda who came very highly recommended he told me I could get pregnant with just injections and I did both times. The staff and nurses were always nice and helpful. However just as with anything you need to be aware and on top of things. Both times I caught mistakes made by nurses in terms of dosage and procedure and brought it to the Dr's. attention.

I have several friends who also have children after using FCI.
Best of luck to you all....remember prayer is the first best medicine.

Just got pregnant after 1 IVF cycle at FCI. I had 3 at other cycles at 2 centers in IL. I am impressed by the CDC rates. Do not believe the other post. Most centers don't post their rates bc their rates SUCK and they dont want to admit it! I always received a call from my nurses and sometimes after hours but I always had their emails in case I couldn't get through on the phone. Those nurses work very hard and have to call all those patients we see in the waiting rooms daily! Give FCI a chance and dont let other doctors just bill your insurance. FCI Rocks!!!!

The staff is a total joke. Unprofessional, Incompetant and Rude would be the adjectives that come to mind.

Unprofessional - Doctors showing up late for scheduled appointment and/or canceling all together. This has happened 4 times.

Incompetant - Nurses advising us to take wrong medication, Doctors who couldn't find a sperm sample provided that same day, Staff routinely looking lost and or half asleep.

Rude - The doctor belched during one appointment. Crude jokes were being made by staff about other patients. Unbelievable.

In looking at these reviews I WISH I would have known about FCI's repution before trusting them with the most important thing in my life.

FCI is a joke, check their CDC Rates they are horrible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY OR ENERGY.
We finished a failed IVF with them a few months ago and are changing to Advanced Fertility Centers in Gurnee.
FCI, failed to call us to give medication instructions, failed to order medication and when they did, ordered wrong medication and you can't return it CareMark. Then they blamed us for not ordering after we left 3 messages with no return phone call to head nurse in Highland Park. Lack of patient care and organization.
They make all patients go on pill to get on their schedule regardless of their egg reserve (pill can lower your reserve).

Do your homework first before you choose. The IVF process is stressful enough, the clinic you choose should not make it harder. Good Luck getting your records from FCI. It will take several attempts.

FCI Glenview, Lindenhurst, Highland Park, and River North are all a disgrace. I have been to all of these clinics trying to give one after another a chance. There are so many reasons why I urge people to go elsewhere.

1. The staff treats the patients horribly. When they forgot to call in one my prescriptions they accused ME of forgetting to order it. Last time I checked it is the responsibility of the Dr. to call in prescriptions.

2. They put all of their patients on the same schedule so they are always overworked, understaffed, and extremely unorganized. I had to constantly remind them of my protocol and what stage of my cycle I was on.

3. The nurse called and told me to take the wrong dose of medication.

4. They do not believe in personalized protocols. An example of this is that they use ICSI on every patient, regardless of sperm quality. This is so they can make the extra $1200.

5. The staff is extremely unorganized and cannot keep all of their patients straight. An example of this is when my husband went to give his semen analysis and he was given a different patient's information. I could have ended up with the wrong man's sperm!!!

6. Their ultrasound machines are out-of-date.

7. The final straw for me was after 3 failed cycles and $35,000 later I was told that I was the reason for the failures and that more genetic testing would be necessary. Dr. Rapisarda recommended $30,000 more worth of testing. I got a second opinion and was told that this statement was incorrect. I am now pregnant after ONE CYCLE with another Dr. and we did not use ICSI and no additional testing was necessary.

FCI is a racket and should be put out of business. Check out their CDC rates, they are horrible.

I could go on and on but the bottom line is DON"T GO TO FCI unless you want to waste your money. IVF is stressful enough and they make it so much worse.

BEWARE! I have experiences at both River North and Highland Park. First, River North patients may want to know that I switched to Highland Park because the doctor said they had a higher success rate! Would have been nice to know before I went through my first cycle. Here is a list of some of the issues I had to deal with-all true.

1. I wanted to get my last IVF cycle in before the new year to save money. River North ??forgot? and due to Christmas holiday I had to want until Jan. which resulted in more bills for us.

2. Highland park nurse ??forgot? to tell me when I was supposed to start taking one on my shots.

3. Even though I had appointments waited hours on Friday mornings at River North.

4. Here is the topper for me, my last cycle was in February, and we paid the entire bill. Four months later we received another bill even though the previous bill said no insurance pending. When my husband called they told him he could not read a bill and made him fax it to them. Now we owe them more money. So I guess they can just send bills whenever they want. It was next to impossible to get someone to call us back because no one cares!

If you're considering FCI River North and your experience is anything like mine, prepare for the following:

- missed calls made to incorrect phone numbers
- LATE calls (i.e. minutes before their offices close; good luck calling them back with any questions or to schedule an appointment that day as a result)
- no weekend ultrasound monitoring or bloodwork for non-IVF patients (yikes!)
- inconsistent information from one nurse to the next
- unreturned calls when you have questions
- inadequate or unclear instructions
- no demos (other than an online video) for giving injections
- little to no doctor involvement in reviewing your files
- little to no contact from your doctor, period
- difficulty getting your files sent to other specialists (and files that contain shockingly little info when they do arrive)
- failure to follow through in a timely manner with insurance company thus delaying treatment for another cycle

I know some people have written that they have had good experiences at FCI. I'm glad for them that it worked out well, but my own experience was anything but. And comparing notes with a friend of mine receiving treatment elsewhere only solidified my misgivings.

ALSO, and this is critical, check your fertility clinic's CDC success rates for IVF. And go to the CDC's site, not your clinic's. FCI's are pretty unimpressive, in light of the large number of women they treat. Although some of the nurses - Lisa and Melanie in particular - are great, my husband and I have decided the overall sloppiness of FCI's approach certainly wouldn't help our IVF success rates. So we left - and are now going out-of-network in the hopes of receiving better care.

You will not receive patient care, returned phone calls, personalized care, from Highland Park. You have to create it yourself by being very proactive with your plan. Anyone going through the challenges of infertility, should not have to worry about lack of return phone calls and medications. I believe 2-4 days is plenty of time to call a patient back.

- No return phone calls, No email response - Highland Park
- Should call by 6p.m. day of blood/ultrasound. Did not call and when we called head nurse she said message was left but it was left at a number that was not mine. In the event of a failed call the second number should be called, it was not.

Don't waste your time or money. FCI will make you mentally sick!
