Fiddlehead is one of those Chicago restaurants that took me by surprise because I sort of stumbled upon it myself. It's located right in Lincoln Square, near Western Ave.

I first started going there because it's a local restaurant, but then returned more often because of the truly yummy food. They have a fantastic selection of Chicken, and fish, as well as other dishes. If you are looking for a romantic place to take a date, won't cost you a ton of cash, and can still get a good meal, then this is a fantastic choice.

Go to Fiddlehead Cafe for brunch. It's amazing. I heard about the Cap'n Crunch French Toast from a friend and had to experience it for myself. It's 8.50 and worth every penny. Though I only had a bite of my friend's, the Crab and Asparagus Omelet is also wonderful. Friendly neighborhood feel, good service.

We had brunch there. We love the neighborhood, but the food in this nicely decorated restaurant was overpriced and just not good! If you're gonna serve brunch you should at least know how to make egg dishes, right? Not this place. I would never go back. I also read their dinner menu and wine list, and wasn't impressed with their menu. The wine list was too long and boring to read.

Pros: Nice decor and nice Lincoln Square neighborhood

Cons: Poor quality food, too pricey, bad service.

My husband and I went to Fiddlehead Cafe last night. The restaurant does not have valet service and street parking is hard to find so we were hoping that this slight bother would be rewarded by a great dinner but that didn?t happen either. We were promptly seated and our server immediately came over to us to welcome us and offer us some water. We were relieved and, for a second, thought the parking fiasco was worth it. The cafe had a nice comfy ambiance and it was quiet (but not too quiet) so we could easily have a conversation. However, our server was overworked and did not come back for almost 10 minutes to take our wine order. We weren?t sure when she would come back again, so we quickly ordered our wine, appetizers and main entree. The enticing menu was primarily focused on meat but there were a couple of very nice vegetarian options. I am a vegetarian so I give the server a lot of credit for knowing exactly which dishes were vegetarian and vegan. After another 5 minutes, we finally got our wine and then the meal followed. The wine was excellent but the appetizers (mushroom tartlet and a special soup of the day) and the entree (pork chop special of the day and asparagus and goat cheese strudel) lacked flavor and heat (yes, the tartlet, soup and strudel were served almost at room temperature instead of hot). Oh, to some this is a good thing, I would also like to point out that the meat portions were outrageously large. I?d rather a restaurant focus on the quality and taste than the portions. To wrap it up, this restaurant has a great looking menu and if they could deliver on that and improve service this could become a great place. Until then..I won?t be back.

Pros: Comfy Ambiance, Nice Wine Selection

Cons: Difficult Parking (and no valet), Below Average Service, Only Ok Food

My date and I had a wonderful time there a few months ago. So good, in fact, I'm writing this belated review well after my first experience there. The food was fantastic, the staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was relaxing and sophiticated yet casual. The place is great for friends getting together, dates or a night out with the "significant other." The wine selection is really great, too!

Pros: Great food, fun presentation, great wine list

Cons: parking can be a little tough on a busy night but no worse than other popular neighborhoods

Delicious food & Great Service make this place a great spot for dinner or just a glass of wine & appetizer, very relaxed & comfortable room.
