okay first of all i want to start by saying that moonshine is a great place to come and hang out, drink some beers, enjoy the people that surround you, great music, great history, blowing rooftops specials, great food, casual atmosphere....we have it all! we have a free lot,a great organized patio,nd unique design of the place, something different than all those other same old restaurant.im not saying this cause im an employee at monnshine, but i do work there and i see how people enjoy being there, and how there is communication, and laughs all over.we and my co workers always try to leave the place as clean and tidiest.i been to restaurant and they are unorganize, thats why we have our staff and myself working to bring joy and great customer service.there's people here in this website giving bad reviews, complaining about everything, well if we were so bad how come we have our overpacked patio, our great customers who enjoy our place, people that be writing this review dont even know whats what?? they dont enjoy life like it suppose to be done. me as an employee i do know we have our cons, but that dont beat on pros.well i review moonshine as a great place here in the wicker park area nd all of chicago.

Pros: Fun Neighborhood

.

Don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. My waitress was nice and gave us great service. The food is has always been good for lunch & dinner (they have great chicken soup, give you options of grilled or fried, and full or half portions) and the menu is diverse but has mexican flair. And I love that they have a parking lot and outside seating.

Pros: Food, Parking, Outside dining

Cons: Late-night the music gets a bit loud

.

I have been going here for years. I can't recall EVER hearing music like Brittney Spears- must have been an anomaly. Music can be loud if there's a dj at night but typically I've heard rock or maybe 80's. The patio is a HUGE plus in nice weather and there are flatscreen tv's inside if you're trying to catch a game. I am addicted to the green chile pepperoni pizza, the shrimp fajitas and the yucatan chicken. Trust me. It's got a fun vibe- still ecclectic and while there is a lincoln park vibe moving into Wicker Park, Moonshine is still that punk-kid that does what it wants!

Out of all the other places on Division to eat or drink at, this has got to be the worst hands down.

Unless of course you like techno music blaring into your ears while trying to eat overpriced appetizers and undercooked entrees.

The service was okay. Well, it better be okay if you have 30 people on staff!.

As far as atmosphere goes, this ain't really the place to kick it with friends . Well specifically, kick it with friends tastefully. Unless you have no taste in music or fine dining of course.

Don't let the packed patio fool you.

Last football season, my friends and I ended up here to watch the end of the Bears game (don't know why). But we missed brunch and had to wait 30 minutes before they could serve us lunch. Awesome.

It was a Sunday afternoon - they had a DJ. The DJ was actually pretty sweet. But, come on. Sunday afternoon DJ? Anyways...

Whenever I walk by this place at night I always end up laughing at the people sitting outside, I don't know why. They just look so cool and awesome and are enjoying their expensive drinks. Its laughable.

However, I would like to come here again to try the food.

But not to hang out. I am not a "see and be seen" kinda gal.

March 07, 2008 - I had a very unfortunate experience while visiting moonshine. When the waitress gave us the bill we questioned her as to the amount of money we were charged. Mind you, this is a customers right, and a manager or honestly pseudo-manager actually told us verbatim "So your telling me that my waitress is stupid and cant add huh?" Seriously, Is this how moonshine treats it's patrons? I will never be returning to moonshine and be assured that I will inform EVERYONE I know not to patronize their business. I have a suggestion for them ...they need to watch who they leave managing their business. But then again according to the other reviews I have read it is obvious that they just don't care. There are way to many other good places to go to in Chicago to put up with this type of treatment. Save yourself the trouble...stay away!!!

Pros: NEIGHBORHOOD

Cons: THE MANAGEMENT

Although I was extremely intoxicated when I showed up it was an awesome time. I think the people who gave this place poor reviews need to relax and enjoy life a little. Their sinicism has not gone unnoticed though! The drinks were a little pricey, but what do you expect?!? This is Chicago. The crowd was a little older than I expected; late 20's - early to late 30's, but that could have just been the night! I'm still a young 24. I would definitely go again!

On the outside, Moonshine looks like the type of place that would serve rustic, hearty food, layed back service, and great rock music in the back round with the occasional live band. However, once you step inside you see how that is all one big facade. Last time I went there, my meal was disrupted by a huge group of loud, drunken business men watching the game with Britney Spears playing in the back round. Yes, Britney Spears, followed by N'Sync and Pink. I kid you not. At a bar, called Moonshine. Let's hear some Stones, or Sabbath or Tool or something with a decent guitar line. If I wanted to go to a yuppie bar, I would go to Harry Carry's. This place is a blemish on the face of west town. But really, the food is very good. Especially the pork chops. But I guess I could always make those at home....

Just having moved to the city, my boyfriend and I thought we would explore the food spots on Division. The outside seating at Moonshine looked cute, but that was about it. Our waitress seemed bored and annoyed to have to wait on us, or any of her tables. There were lipstick marks on my water glass, and the food was below average. I ordered a burger, figuring no one can screw that up, but it was just a frozen patty which had been charred to the point of cutting my gums when I chewed it! The fries were pretty good, and my boyfriend's fajitas were OK (bland spices). The prices were not worth the quality of food. We'll pass next time.

Really I would only suggest going to Moonshine for drinks, to hear good music and to meet new people. I would honestly rank the food as mediocre at best. If you ever get a chance to place an order and be served food you will find that out on your own, but why cause yourself that headache? You could just as easily walk down Division and eat at any number of other fine dining establishments that actually know how to take care of their customers. You could then still go to Moonshine for drinks, people and music.

Would I go to Moonshine again? Yes, but only for drinks I will never even attempt to eat a meal there ever again. Fool me once, shame on you fool me EIGHT TIMES, shame on me!

Moonshine has one of the best overall scenes that I have found in this city. It has down home bar comfort with club scene quality staff and patrons. Some of the best bar food to boot. Even has a place for my car (parking lot).

I don't know what the other people are talking about--we had the best ribs I have ever had in my life, awesome fajitas (that pleased even the pickiest eater), and a great burger. Service was informal but congenial, parking free.....This is definitely a place that we will be coming back to!!!!

My husband and I had one of the worst burgers we have ever had in a restaurant, save fast food. We ordered medium rare and we got very thin, cooked to death, tasting like leather burgers. We complained to our waitress after having a couple of bites. She did nothing but presented us with our bill. When I questioned the fact that she did not notify the manager, she said that she would bring him over if we wanted. By then, we justed wanted OUT! Like we were going to wait around some more. She had 20 minutes to notify the manager but I guess it was no big deal to her even after we pointed out that we did not eat much of our food.

Hoping for a hip new joint on Division? Keep hoping! Moonshine will completely floor you with their horrible food. Blackened shrimp fettuccine tasted like freezer burnt bulk shrimp with egg noodles. Where is the "creamy alfredo sauce"? Calamari was rubbery and fishy (terrible), two crabcakes were served to a group of 8 as an appetizer and no one could be force-fed the last crabcake. Simply awful. Quesadillas seem like a pretty foolproof and safe bet? Wrong. More appropriately titled "NO quesadillas", as there was a whopping 1 tablespoon of cheese on the entire portion. Macaroni and cheese? I've had better Kraft Mac n Cheese in a high school cafeteria. Pizza was chewy like cardboard, par for the course for a frozen pizza. For Moonshine to dazzle, they need to ditch the 8th grade dropout in the kitchen and hire a real chef.
