Very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Have done several treatments--all have been very good. Spa is clean. Staff members are polite. You won't be disappointed.

I moved here from Boston a couple of years ago, and I have been looking for a spa to replace my beloved Emerge spa located in the downtown Boston area. I was very disappointed in the happy feet pedicure at Spa Space. My technician was very nice and gave me an adequate manicure, but she did not fulfill the promises that the web site advertise for the happy feet treatment. The massage was mediocre & my feet have had a superior exfoliation at Emerge for $65. The happy feet cost $95. My appointment started 15 min. late even though I was an hour early, and when I left no-one seemed interested to know why I was clearly unhappy. This was my first visit and I am VERY hesitant to try any of the other services.

This review is specifically about Beth Dahlke Kiens. Beth has been my masseuse for the last 8-10 months and has been beyond WONDERFUL. At the point at which we met, I had near chronic lower back pain and crunchy shoulders. I truly credit Beth (and some yoga) for the fact that I feel as great as I do now. Beth specializes in deep tissue massage (though I know she does a range of things, Swedish, etc.) which is exactly what I want. I should mention that I have had dozens of massages at high end spas and hotels around my country, such that my frame is reference is pretty good. Beth has a true knack for discovering the exact points of tension in your body, managing to find just about ever kink. Also, having seen her over time, I can say she adapts her techniques to your particular needs on that given day; no two massages are the same. Also, she is truly sweet and entirely professional, exactly the kind of person you want working on you. She asks if you're comfortable, if you want more or less pressure, etc. Massages from Beth are the best treat I give myself. I truly recommend her to everyone!

My daughter and i went to Spa Space on Saturday, April 16 and left feeling very relaxed. I have to say, we compared our experiences when we left and it sounds like I got a better facial. It was my first. Mine included massaging my hands and arms, and my feet and ankles. Her name was Janine (maybe spelled wrong) and she did a fabulous job! I highly recommend the place and her. Even though I live in Bloomington, IL, I hope be back for more. It's close to my daughter's condo and it's a Great Relaxing Place with very nice, pleasant employees! Great experience!

It was a perfect choice for me. I got there and wasn't asked to wait for long. They right away showed me the ladies' lounge. They've got everything I need and the massage really made me feel relaxed and peaceful.

The dressing rooms were adequate but the washable slippers needed to be replaced, at least stitched some holes. The waiting area, well used as the white cushions needed some cleaning. My treatments were thoroughly technical.

I'm from France and while visiting Chicago I wanted to go to a GREAT spa. Beacause of the good reviews, I chose Spa Space. Wow... What a good choice !!!\r\n\r\nWhen I arrived, I had a warm welcome. They offered me tea and glass of water. Then, they showed me the ladies' lounge. Amazing. You have everything : lockers, hot robes, towels, 2 showers, sinks with mirrors, hair dryers and good products (hand and face creams...).\r\nLet me talk about the showers : very big showers with rain shower head and normal shower, soap, shampoo and conditionner. You can even make your shower a hammam !!!\r\n\r\nI had booked a 30 min deep tissue massage. The therapist came in the ladies' lounge to found me. The massage was really great. Heated table, candles, dim light... Everything was perfect.\r\n\r\nOverall, couldn't expect a better experience. Really amazing place.

Great service and kind receptionist. One problem, no product testers and at the prices they charge for products, I would have love to have some testers.

The managers are always so friendly and gracious... \r\nI'm always greeted warmly and frankly, I feel special when I'm there. Sheila is my fav nail technician, but all of them are wonderful... I admit - GO NOW!!! Oh and wanna get a Thai Massage??? Grant aint no joke!!! :D

I look down and I cannot believe the work that was done on my hands and feet! They look amazing! I really waited too long since my last pedi/mani appt. Apparently a Groupon did not come along fast enough, so I proudly marched down to Spa Space (3 blocks away) and got beyond my monies worth. There are only a few techs that I have experienced and thus far: Pattie is amazing for manicures and Sheila provides an awesome pedi! All the techs are friendly and knowledgeable. Psst! If your looking for an awesome waxing Dina is your gurl! ;)

You must try the Space Ritual. It is an unbelievable combination of the all of the best types of massages. Reflexology for your feet, hot stone for your legs, Indian head massage for your head and face, etc. Need I say more? This best of massage is one of the reasons I am such a fan of spa space!

Whenever I'm in town, I always find time for Spa Space. I usually indulge in one their spa packages every other month and with each blissful service, I feel beyond relaxed and rejuvenated. I really enjoy their Indian Head Massage and their Deep Tissue Massage. I have experienced quite a few of the therapists and all of them are wonderful! If you have the opportunity to book in advance definitely check out the menu of food they provide... Perfecto! Did I mention that Spa Heaven (ahem) I mean... Spa Space is BYOB?!

First off, I simply love how clean Spa Space is! So important to me, considering other nail salons and their sanitation practices. I have literally received the best pedicure of my life from this spa! They have several to choose from, my favorite is the Vanilla-Almond - Delish!

Who knew a spa had over 30 highly trained professional massage therapists!? I never think of a spa as a place to go for massage, but Spa space has changed my mind forever. I am so picky about my massage, so I was not too excited to try somewhere new. Not only did I try one therapist who was exceptional, but all three I went to were just as amazing. \nDid I mention that the staff is friendly and the space is a relaxing get away from the fast paced city. Valet parking a total plus, although I have found parking too...Give it a try. I had a pedicure and a manicure too-wonderful! Enjoy!!

Where do I begin? From the moment that I walked in, I was greeted by a truly wonderful staff with warm smiles. So professional and gracious! It's so uncommon these days in any customer service environment, so I must mention it (sorry so cheesy!). Anyway, I did not have the opportunity to make an appointment in advance and without a moment's doubt, I was on my way to the women's locker room to prepare for an hour massage and a mani / pedi! The massage was absolutely amazing, so relaxing and one that tackled all my kinks and pains in my neck and lower back! Thanks Doug!!! The mani / pedi was nothing short of sheer PERFECTION! Sheila was so meticulous, especially all of the exfoliation that the bottoms of my feet required. The polish was a great compliment to that she helped me to pick out for both and the manicure (6 days later) is still in tact! (Dark Red polish just does not stay unchipped that long.) Unbelievable! The management was so helpful in ensuring that my experience was 110%. Thank you Spa Space. After such a long and tiresome flight, I really needed a day of pampering. I could really go on-and-on, but I can say that I will definitely be back.

I strongly believe that anyone who truly cares about their facial beauty and symmetry needs their brows shaped by Tara. I have been going to Tara for more than 3 years. She is truly world-class and in fact shapes my brows so that my face looks thinner and my eyes look more alert. I have previously lived in both New York and London - only patronizing top spas with celebrity clientele.\r\n\r\nNot only is Tara more talented than my previous aestheticians, but she is more personable and is able to customize her brow design to best flatter my face.\r\n\r\n

I've been hosting groups at spa Space for the last few years, and I just want to say...no one does a spa event better! Basically, my company does 2 types of events - mani/pedis for clients over lunch, and evening events where each guest chooses a massage, facial or mani/pedi. The great thing about the lunch events is that you can order from NIne restaurant and they will serve it to you during your pedicure. The staff is absolutely a dream to work with, and I always know that my guests will be treated professionally. This is very important to me, as the experience at the spa reflects on me personally (as the hostess). \r\n\r\nThe evening events are my personal favorite, because I simply get to enjoy a wonderful treatment and I don't have to worry about entertaining my guests. I typically receive a facial (vitamin C is my favorite) because I get both the benefits of a deep clean and the luxury of a massage. And when it's over, I meet up with my guests and they always rave about their treatments. The front desk also makes it very easy to check out and figure out gratuities. It is just a lovely experience.

I've been to Spa Space on multiple occasions - first, for a friend's shower, and many times when I just needed a great massage or an escape from stress. \r\n\r\nWhen I went for the bridal shower, all of the guests received a manicure and pedicure, and we had a private room afterwards for cake and champagne. The staff was wonderful and the space was very well suited to handle our group. I really appreciated how professionally run the event was (especially as a customer service professional myself). Although I didn't have any other services that day, I knew that I would go back and see what else they had to offer. \r\n\r\nI think Spa Space is best known for the high quality of massage therapy they offer. The therapists are clearly selected with care by someone who knows their stuff. After my first massage there (which was great) I repeatedly requested the same therapist. However, my schedule tends to be last minute, and on multiple occasions that particular therapist was not available. I have seen 3 or 4 others since then, and now I don't even worry about which therapist I see because they have been consistently so good. \r\n\r\nI also spent an afternoon at Spa Space with a friend on her birthday, and we both received full packakges. Again, everything was outstanding. I was particularly pleased to see that they had re-done the locker rooms to create small, private changing areas. It did need freshening, and they did a very nice job. \r\n\r\nBasically, this is my go-to place for relaxation. I have tried other places, but the consistency and professionalism of Spa Space always draws me back. \r\n

I live in the building above Spa Space and have gone a few times. My husband used to go regularly but the massage therapist he used to see left and he couldn't find a good enough replacement there, which brings me to my point. \n\nThe first time I visited (for a bikini wax), I had a great experience. Nice service, good therapist and very good end result (no broken hairs, few ingrown hairs later on, etc.). \n\nThe second time I went in, I had the same girl, but the treatment was less good - at least 50% of the hair was broken this time (same treatment) and she even used a different technique.\n\nThe third time I went in was for a full leg wax (yesterday). I was taken care of by a nice therapist but the treatment was not up to scratch. Essentially, all of my leg hairs were just broken off (even on the thighs, where it's SO easy to do a good wax), instead of waxing them properly where they come out at the follicle, so I had to go home and shave that same day as my legs felt like they had one day-old stubble rather than being smooth (the way they should be after a wax). I did inspect both of my legs at the end with the therapist still in the room, and told her that there was a ton of breakage.\n\nI will contact the salon to let them know and will report back here on how they deal with the issue.\n\nThey just seem to have grown too big to offer consistently good service. If you find a good therapist who knows what she's doing there, great. Stick with her. But if you don't, you have at least a 50/50 chance of having a bad treatment and/or overall experience.\n\nIt's a shame. I am a beauty journalist for a living so have been to countless spas and salons for all sorts of services, including all types of waxing (leg, arm, armpit, bikini, etc.) and this spa has simply become too expensive ($65 for a full-leg wax with $10 tip to come in at a grand total of $75 for leg stubble I could have grown at home for free) for the incredibly hit or miss service on offer.\n\nMy suggestions:\n\n1. Freshen up the space a bit and have more than two Michigan Avenue magazines on the rack!\n\n2. Make it mandatory that the staff behind the bar offer customers who sit down at said bar a drink (I sat down at it yesterday and was ignored, which seems to be the general MO of the bar staff, looking at past reviews here).\n\n3. Do very very stringent quality control with therapists by having an active secret shopper policy (and taking the feedback seriously).\n\n4. Offering local residents (esp. those in the building upstairs) a neighbour discount. I live upstairs and would probably (if I could find a reliably good therapist) return regularly if properly incentivized.\n\n5. Re-do the website! It's DATED. I run a beauty blog and it looks slicker than this.\n\n6. Did I say internal QC checks? Yes, I did. And it's important enough to say it again. A spa is only as good as the quality of their therapists!

Cons: Inconsistent, high staff turnover

My experience at Spa Space was phenomenal from start to finish. I received a gift certificate for the Space Mission package which is like 2+ hours of different massage techniques (thanks mom!) and it was ammmaaazzing!! It's hard to even pick my favorite part - maybe the hot stone massage because it was cold outside- but the indian head part was soooo good too. Exactly the right pressure was used (I like a really deep massage) and I liked that they gave me a break in the middle. This gave me a chance to use the restroom and have some water, and then I had a different therapist for the 2nd part of my package. First I had a woman (I'm bad with names but she had dark hair and was tall-ish) and then I had an African American guy. I loved them both! \r\nThe locker room area was very clean and had nice amenities available. I like that there is no rush here - there is an area to relax and have tea, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Great, great experience - I can't recommend it enough for massage!

I was given a gift certificate by my sweet hubby as I've been so stressed out at work. I decided to try the Head and Toe massage. When I walked in I was instantly greeted and given water. The waiting area was a little crowded, but I wasn't there long. My therapist DeAnna picked me up and took me upstairs. My massage was exactly what I needed, very relaxing. I especially enjoyed having my neck worked on and the head massage. DeAnna's pressure was exactly right and I will try to go back and see her as my schedule (and budget) allow.I added a waxing service with Endira. I won't go into details, but it was quick and painless which is exactly what you want during that type of service!\r\nThe checkout was fairly quick, no complaints. I didn't have cash for a tip, but they let me use my card. All in all, a nice afternoon.

Once again I treated myself for my birthday, and this was, by far, my best visit. I was slightly annoyed when I arrived-a bachelorette party got there right when I did. They quite frankly overlooked me entirely to pamper the big group-even though my treatments cost over $400, and I doubt theirs did! Once again Jennine is an absolute genius-never loose her! I have been there before where some of the techs were not that great, but this time I had the best techs working with me. The changing room/lounge is still the most relaxing place on earth! I just think better front desk help would be beneficial!

I have gotten several facials from Tara at Spa Space who always does an outstanding job. Shes very knowledgable and really listens to what your issues are and is able to really focus on them. She does great extractions, and does them ALL, which is required for me in a good facial! I've seen several massage therapists previously, and they've been great, but this last time I saw Jerry who was amazing! 1.5 hours (thanks to my husband!) He really is familiar with tense muscles and how to make you feel relaxed. Both of them together put me in such a great state of relaxation. I will go back to see them again and again.

Skip going to Spa Space for a microdermabrasion. I have purchased microdermabrasion packages before but thought I would try something close to home. This was by far the worst one that I?ve had and very unprofessional. The person giving me the micro was not skilled, it should never be painful. She also ran into problems with the machine and was pushing other facials on me until the machine was fixed. After the machine was fixed, it took all of 10 minutes to complete. I had a friend with me that also did the micro as well and it took all of 15 minutes for her to complete....pretty pricey for a 10 minute facial. I was offered spa dollars to come back but I will never go back again. I get the feeling this is more of business on customer quotas rather than a spa experience for the customers.

I'm in town visiting a friend and was able to get a same day appointment on a Sunday afternoon. Alisha gave me the best nail polish job I've ever received (and I'm a mani junkie). I went for the vanilla almond manicure and it smelled SO GOOD. Loved it! I'll definitely be getting another service before leaving town.

I am new to Chicago and have been investigating spa's in all different neighborhoods to be my new favorite spot. I am a frequent spa goar and consider myself to be somewhat of a connoisseur. I had heard good things about Spa Space so thought I would give it a try. I had a massage with Beth and it was wonderful. I have been having some pretty intense neck/shoulder problems and she worked on me very powerfully but delicately she even incorporated some techniques and stretches that I have not before experienced... which kind of says a lot. I also had a facial. The facial was just average. I really enjoyed the products and the overall process and technique of the facial however my facialist seemed not so interested and even rushed. Also, she had the music on so low I heard far more of construction and her chair squeaking than relaxing music. Lastly the ""relaxation room"" was definitely lacking. Three magazines, no music and I assume it must be near the break room because all i could hear was very loud chatting. Luckily my appointments ran on time and I spent very little time in there.

I just moved here from DC and had no idea where to go to get a massage. I tried city search and came across Spa Space. I had no idea what to expect. My back is full .. I mean FULL of knots. I try to get a massage atleast once every two months... and have NEVER had a better massage..Beth is the best! I weight train pretty seriously and I am a soccer player...I have never felt better after a massage. I got a 30 minute massage and wish I would have booked an hour! I will absolutley go back. The salon was VERY clean, the staff had the best customer service. I was very impressed. I would recommend this salon to any athlete looking for a great deep tissue massage!

I am a licensed nail tech in another state other than Illinois. I am temporarily living in the Chicago area due to a job for my husband. I can't be a nail tech in Illinois without an Illinois license, and I didn't bring my tools to even do a pedicure on myself due to lack of room. If you ever have met a nail tech, we usually own suitcases of ""stuff"" for nails.\r\nI got so darn sick of looking at my nails and knew I wouldn't be able to get back home for at least 3 weeks to even give myself a pedicure, so I got on Citysearch and found Spa Space. I looked at the menu and the choices were outstanding. I love the smell of roses, so I picked the rose pedicure. It proved to be a perfect choice.\r\nWell, for starters, I was lucky enough to have Jackie O. be my nail tech. I received the absolute best pedicure of my life. She works so hard and is so detail minded, it is really nice to know there are still people out there that really care, and aren't just going though the motions. My feet have NEVER looked so good. First, Jackie is a great nail tech, and secondly, the owner of the salon has spared no expense when it comes to quality products and attention to detail and not just supplying products to her employees to ""just"" get the job done...The prices for the pedi's and mani's are right in line with the prices where I worked at top salons in my home state, but the extras that my salons charge for were included in the price at Spa Space. I have read complaints about not being able to charge tips to credit cards. Yes, that is an inconvenience, but I truly appreciated being told that information when I booked the appointment so I could be prepared with a cash tip for my service provider, and more and more spas are going that route, so it shouldn't be a factor in concidering going to this salon. The owner of Spa Space has truly supplied such wonderful things for clients to really feel like they are getting their money's worth and Jackie truly is wonderful!!! Thank you Jackie!!!

So, I have been a very loyal client of Jai's fo years, brows, bikini, and most recently facials. She does the most amazing brows and facials, and even makes the bikini wax comfortable. Though recently the desk screwed up my appointment and put me with another estetician, it was not nearly as good or comfortable. There wasn't any apology from the not so friendly girl at the desk and i only went to the other girl out of pure desperation! I will never see anyone else, it proved to me that I have truly chosen well with Jai, I had to take one star away for the desk, but i reccomend Jai for waxes and facials!!!

I had the Fire & Ice facial at Spa Space last week, and had to write a review because I loved it so much. Although I scheduled a basic facial, the esthetician convinced me to upgrade to this particular treatment. I was a little skeptical (and even a little annoyed, frankly as it was significantly more expensive), but the facial was amazing - everything smelled so good, and although it was really intense (the fire part feels really hot) and I thought I'd walk out red & blotchy, I wasn't at all. I didn't even have to put on makeup to go out for dinner afterwards. Anyhow, my skin has not looked this good in years. This was a true RESULTS facial. I will definitely go back!

I am not very experienced with Spas, but my experience at Spa Space was very pleasent. The environment was nice and the staff very friendly. I was put at ease and lost any nervousness I might have otherwise had on entering an unfamiliar environment.\r\nI'm taking the time to write this review because the deep tissue massage I received from 'Veronica' was by far the best massage I have ever gotten. This is based on about 10 massages that I have gotten in my life.

I've been to Spa Space several times over the years for waxing and occasional nails b/c it's close to my office, and I have sent tons of friends for their brazilian waxing. I've had to try a few different waxers b/c two have left since I started going there, but all have been excellent. My biggest thing is that the place is spotlessly clean - very important when you're having such an intimate service. Anyhow, I recently had friends in town and they wanted to visit a spa, so I decided to give Spa Space a try for the other services that I'd never done there. We all had 90-min. massages, facials and pedis. My friend also had a seaweed wrap that she loved. Everything was amazing from start to finish. We were actually arguing about which of us had the best masseuse (I pick mine, her name was Veronica). I don't remember who my friends had, but they were both so happy. The service was also really great - everyone was super-nice and helpful. We didn't want to leave!

I went there on a Friday for some Mom & Me time and we both really enjoyed it. I was signed up for one of the triple play packages - facial massage and mani/pedi and my mom just did a massage and a spa mani. I did get suckered into an upsell on my facial, but I don't regret it because my skin looked fabulous for days afterwards! I fully intend to go back for another. My massage was very good - not the best but certainly not a disappointment - and the nail technician had the best personality! I also appreciated that she actually massaged my hands and feet, she didn't cup her hand and beat my shin like the cheap-O nail salons do. I didn't like any of the polish colors available (I am super particular), so its a good thing my mom carries her own!\r\n\r\nI would suggest that since they try so hard to maintain a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, they should caution the employees against walking into the waiting lounge and bellowing the customers' names for their next appointment. Really took me out of my cucumber-water induced zone a few times.

Have been to Spa Space many times for massages, and I keep coming back because the therapists are consistently great. It's not the most convenient for me, so I've tried other places in my neighborhood (Lakeview). Ultimately, I've become very loyal to Spa Space because I'm never disappointed. I've had a few other services there (manicure/pedicure/wrap) and they were all quite good, but I'm a massage person so maybe not the best judge of all that. If you've got the time and the means, go for the 2-hour massage and take a steam at the end.

Maybe i'm just spoiled by the really amazing place i went to for brazilians while living in San Francisco, but honestly, I think Chicago has to be able to do better than what this spa had to offer. I actually went here for a brazilian twice, trying two different employees. I went back the second time only because i really wanted to be able to go here for my waxing, since the spa is located so close to where I work.\r\n\r\nThe first time, the aestitician did a mostly thorough job, until I got home and saw that she had entirely missed a spot! Although, I have to say, it was in a difficult to wax place. But shouldn't they know how not to miss spots? What was worse was that the inside of my thighs were actually bruised because she didn't pull the wax off correctly! The second time, I left the spa a sticky mess. There was actually an obvious chunk of dark green hard wax still stuck to me.\r\n\r\nI think I'll spend my $60 elsewhere from now on.
