The Scene
The Wild West meets the big city in this masculine, multilevel space, which celeb designer Nate Berkus (you've seen him on "Oprah") has duded up with chocolate-leather chairs, rough-hewn wood tables and exposed-brick walls adorned with rustic framed mirrors. A stylish after-work crowd jostles for position at the bar, while model-pretty servers strain to hear dinner orders over the rock soundtrack.

The Food
Rockit serves up a comforting menu of updated bar and grill classics, from cobb salad and Black Angus meat loaf to jumbo shrimp cocktail and fish-and-chips. Thick-cut calamari rings with eggplant and tomato dip make for a satisfying starter; crab cake is surprisingly meaty and plump. Burger gourmands can indulge in the Rockit, made with Kobe beef and topped with a slab of seared foie gras and black truffles. Other faves include crispy-tender pork with tangy greens and Alaskan halibut with succotash and lemon butter.

awesome!~

by Alyssa J. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,494

I've gone here numerous times now, and everything I've tried for dinner here is awesome. It's a great place to bring out of town friends and family. Also, it is a great place for the younger crowd for the bar after hours!

Killer place for killer drinks

by Sarah G. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,112

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the mini burgers, music and atmosphere. Great place to be seen and people watch. Close to Blue line stops; cabs galore. Gets crowded on the weekends, but great for mid week and late lunch/drinks with coworkers.

Good brunch menu

by Jason G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 891

Go for a solid brunch. Great food, good drinks, and a good atmosphere. Not a fan of the local guitarists they sometimes bring in who cover bad 90s songs.

Beware

by khomle

I hosted my friend's party there about three months ago and have been disputing the charge with my credit card company. I got the credit card slip and filled out a tip amount and signed it, but did not take my customer copy of the receipt. A few days later I was surprised that the charge on my card was for more than I remebered, so I asked them for a copy of the receipt that I signed. When I received it I was shocked to see that they had filled out the customer receipt for a higher tip amount and forged my signature on it! And that's what they charged my credit card. So for everyone out there, make sure you take your customer receipt with you or else it will be used fraudulently! Businesses are getting desparate with the economy situation.

Worst Service EVER

by FairJudge

I will never ever recommend this place to anyone. This joint is a rip-off. They over charge you for drinks and food. Too crowded.... To noisy.... Not worth the cost.... I agree with the other post: The food is very bad here.

Pros: Location

Cons: Rude Service

Mediocre food...at best, chastising server, good bar staff

by tyronebiggs

I came here on a Saturday for dinner and was disappointed. The food was mediocre at best. The Rockit Pockits were served with ketchup on a bed of lettuce, which to me was not the best way to present this dish, anything on a bed of lettuce looks like it should be in a styrofoam box. The sweet potato fries were mushy like they were frozen. The burger was good, but that's not hard to screw up. Our server was "there" but we felt like she was chastising us when she would answer our questions. She had tattoos, but we don't remember her name. My wife ordered the tilapia dish and that was the saddest looking fish I have ever seen served. The string beans totaled to about 10 on the plate and the rice was disgusting. The only highlight of the night was sitting at the bar. The bartenders were so nice, heck, even the barback was very attentive. After sitting down and having good conversation with the bar staff, I left a lot happier than I initially was. I will only go back for a happy hour perhaps.

Pros: Good burger, good bar staff, good ambience.

Cons: Abnoxtious server, bad food and food presentation.

Best burger in Chicago!

by JazzG

It was very easy to become a regular at Rockit. In my first trip I was completely sold when I tasted the Rockit Pockets ( a Philly cheese steak twist) and the Rockit burger. the service is amazing, and thus complements the food well. After dinner, for a few more drinks, I highly recommend experiencing the upstairs level. Especially on Tuesdays when they have their "live band karaoke". This is the highlight of my week. A full band plays while you stumble and sing to a classic rock song. Best feeling ever.

Pros: The food, the booze and the karaoke

Fantastic Cheeseburger

by johnnybananas1

Wow, if you wait an hour for your waitress to show up without flagging someone down that's your own fault. Restaurants, like any business must hire new staff and train them. Sometimes people make mistakes. I went there recently and had a very nice meal. They have a very diverse food and drink menu. The waitress wasn't super attentive but she was easy to flag down when we wanted something - I like it that way. The kobe beef burger was among the best I have had (if not the best). Everything from the bun to the brie cheese was high quality. Our group left happy.

Pros: Waitresses, burgers and music

Cons: Many posers dine there

Worst Customer Service in Chicago

by langer1979

I have eaten at Rockit numerous times over the past few years, and while I would never use the words "ambitious" or "intelligent" to describe the Rockit staff, the food and drinks usually found their way to the table eventually. Apparently not anymore.

I attempted to get brunch there on June 8, 2008. The initial ordering process went fine, but after an hour of not seeing our food or our waitress, I began to realize that this brunch was not meant to be. The waitress finally stopped back at the table after a little over an hour, and seemed utterly perplexed that we hadn't received our food yet. Willing to give her one more shot, my girlfriend ordered more coffee, and we assumed the waitress would at least put a rush on our order in the kitchen.

It was not to be. After another 15-20 minutes, not only did we realize the waitress was never coming back with the second coffee, she clearly had no intention of bringing our food. I found another waitress and explained the situation, at which time our waitress hurried over and assured me that she was going to talk to the manager and get this resolved.

After another endless wait we realized that there was no manager involved, nor would there ever be. So we left. Not surprisingly, no one noticed. Maybe David Schwimmer was at the bar or something.

Do yourself a favor and give this place a pass. There are bars with better food and atmosphere within the same block, and those bars do not act like you are putting them out by being there.

Pros: You'll never actually get your food, so eating here can help you lose weight

Cons: The service is rude, incompetant and lazy

Great Place for Happy Hour

My friends and I often go to Rockit for drinks after work. Most nights, the bar is crowded but not too crowded. The drinks are priced reasonably. We always have a great time.

Cool Spot For a Hot Time

by billygoathex

Tasty upscale nouveau burger and fry cuisine (the sweet potato fries are AWESOME) and a top-notch bar with plenty of good beers on tap. We were there on weekdays, but you can tell there are always plenty of well dressed members of the opposite gender available! In addition, we ran into several of the Cubs there after a game (they were very friendly). Overall, a great spot to have a late dinner and some grog.

Pros: Good Burgers, Good beers, Nice Ladies

Cons: Lots of Dudes trying to scam chicks

Prepare to Move with the Crowd, Loud, Good Looking People

by nolachitown

This place is usually crowded on the street level, mostly because first-timers are unaware of the upstairs "lounge" area which is more of a true bar. The food is rather disappointing, and don't expect quick service for your drinks/food even if you're at a table. I can't speak on the service downstairs in the legitimate "restaurant area", but a waitress passed my table upstairs about 4 times before we finally got her attention to order our drinks. I was a little underwhelmed. Had the crowd not been as good looking as they were, the night would've been a total bust. Hope your time here was better than mine.

Pros: good looking crowd, good music, no cover

Cons: truffle french fries were NOTHING special, service takes forever, very crowded

How do you spell Rockit..... H E A V E N! Great place..... Lots of women... good drinks and from what I here good food.... What I like about this place is its not an all out club but it seems like it, BEST MUSIC AT ANY BAR!.... On the bottom a restaurant, and bar.... On the top a huge bar on one side and pool tables on the other..... and lots of women willing! Guys dress like it is a club and get there before 11 or goodnight...... and good luck!

Pros: Women, great music!

Cons: Theres only one Rockit!

everything on the menu is amaze

by koreanhonoraryjew

are you kidding me?! the burger here is friggin' AMAZING... who needs a man when the fries are drenched in truffle oil!? but its no date-fries, they sprinkle it with fresh parsley and it gets all up in your grill.

apparently the sister's chopped salad is quite the thing to order as well... not gonna lie, i tried it, it was fabo.

dont forget to get the yam fries... you'll be eating them til youre beyond full. get valet so you can get inside quickly, but dont expect the tables to be cleaned off fast enough until youre actually sitting at your table.

go there, seriously.

Pros: friggin' amazing food

Cons: the hostesses are special

Great for after work

by dianamunn

Myself and my co-workers love this bar for our happy hours. They have great snacks that all can share - the Calamari is excellent - and the drinks are shaken to perfection. Not the perfect Martini, but the staff is super sweet and willing to work on anything to make your "After 5" party perfect!

An OK place

by ames1

I have never gone to ROCKIT before because the line is always out the door at night. Luckily one afternoon my work had a business meeting here. The staff was average looking with not much enthusiasm for our table which was a bummer considering all the hype about ROCKIT. We had appetizers that were just great! The crowd was OK, but not all that.

Pros: Cool place to just chill at.

Cons: Staff snotty when they aren't even all that.

Rockit BURGER is a blast.

by frannieg

The staff is super friendly and good eye candy. The Rockit burger made out of Kobe beef is dee-lish! Every time we're there it has the perfect crowd drinking fun cocktails like a 10 Cane mojitos. If you're in charge of planning the night with friends make sure to lead off @ Rockit.

Pros: Comfort food with gourmet ingredients.

Cons: After 10p there is a scene at the door to get in.

love it so much i got a job there...

by hawtmila

was at the westin while visiting and asked the concierge where to get a great bloody mary..."rockit!"

the crabcake was so delicious, the service outstanding, and the place is very clean and appealing.

once i moved here i applied and from the management to the waitstaff, everyone is so genuinely nice (and cute) i sometimes have to pinch myself. they treat their employees like gold! which in turn makes the employees treat the guests even better.

as per the holding of credit cards at cocktail tables...it's not to offend or "treat you like a kid"...any high volume bar in downtown chicago will do the same. it's called business. cocktail tables are right by the front door, very convenient for someone who wants to walk out on a big tab.

Rockit's a great bar--I never had their food but heard about how great it was because they won "favorite new restaurant in River North" so I decided to check it out. I had the Southwest Chopped Salad and split the Rockit Pockits appetizer (i guess they're known for these) with my friend. Seriously i was really impressed--it wasn't typical bar food loaded with grease!! Everything had very strong unique flavors and I will defenitely go back there for the food!!

Great Weekday Hangout for Mid-20s and up

by bucktowngal

Rockit is the perfect spot for after-work gatherings, corporate events, or an evening with friends. The crowd is pretty classy and ranges from mid-20s and up. The downstairs provides a casual dining atmosphere while the upstairs allows customers to socialize and listen to great rock music. The staff is good-looking and friendly and adds to the night. I highly recommend the turkey burger!

Pros: great staff, valet parking, great atmosphere

Cons: crowded on weekends

Leave Your Credit Card Behind 4 Drinks

by zephyr

I'm usually pretty chill about reviews, but when a waitress asks if she can hold my credit card in order for my friends and coworkers to drink at a cocktail table, I kinda feel as if I'm being treated like a kid. The place is great looking, but the vibe is very young and everyone looked the same (ie., fraternity scene).

GREAT PLACE

by jessjohn

I don't know if the above reviewer is mistaking Rockit for a different restaurant but he has obviously never been there. Although I'm sure Rockit warmly welcomes its gay clientele, it is not a gay bar. I did see a lot of attractive guys there but there were more girls dressed up looking for the single straight guys which were all over. Also, as far as the male go go dancers, I am a frequent visitor and have never seen them. The atmosphere is great thought even without the go go dancers. Check out the upstairs bar and pool area. Great food! Try the Kobe Burger!
