When I took some continuing education classes at Columbia for graphic design and web design I was not very impressed. The classes were not cheap, yet it was hit or miss on whether you got a good instructor. Many of the classes could have been replaced with a good book on the subject, they did not have much to add.
PROS: Variety of classes
CONS: Price, instructors

Columbia College is a great school choice in Chicago-- especially if you are into the arts. They are located conveniently off the L in the loop. They have a wonderful writing program with awesome teachers, most of whom are published. They also have a very good Master of Fine Arts program for writing.

With the Art Institute right up the street, Columbia College has quite the competion--but it lives up to its dedication. That dedication is to give students the best atmosphere to creatively strive in. As a photography undergraduate student, the school's departments were brilliant. Instructors are from real world jobs and teach with passion and dedication. The classrooms are small. The courses are well organized. It is a private institution, but well worth the cost to go there. Most classes will tune the student into their creative passions and evolve them along the way.
PROS: Atmpsphere, opportunities, instructors
CONS: Cost and schools administration
