Too bad we can't give 0 stars
DONT BUY ANYTHING HERE. I purchased a laptop here and didn't notice a flaw in the display when examining it. I was told they were referbished, but ANY refurbished machine is set to like new condition. This was not the display had a dead area on it and I only had it for two days. I was told too bad. I was given a number by mall security to call for fraudulent claims and bad service. The number below is Mall Management 847-263-7500

You pay for what you get, and when you understand that fact, Mycomp Computer Ctr is a great store. So, a $20 600 Watt Power Supply may not be the best, long lasting, piece of equipment. But if you need something in a pinch, to get you by, then you need to check out this store. I give it 4 stars because I would really like to give it 3.5 stars, but 4 will balance out what everyone else is lending to this place. These are all going to be old products. And expecting to have a return policy on software and equipment that is out of manufacture for many years is a little out of line. You can't come hear expecting something that helps you start your business and last 10 years.

I've bought several things here, monitors, keyboards, and a couple of other odds and ends. While none of them were as good quality as something even purchased at Wallmart, they accomplished the goal of being a band aid. In short, don't rely on getting Christmas gifts here. But if your computer has broken and is on it's last leg, you might be able to get your stuff fixed with parts from here to last through your kids Winter Breaks. Then you will have the time to get a good part or computer from a quality source.

Even then, I must have been lucky, because my biggest purchase here, an NEC monitor, works till this day (6 years from purchase).

I went and bought my wife a refurbished computer they assured me it was a great computer. I paid a large amount of money for this computer and my wife got it and i would barely touch the computer and the screen would shut off. We set the computer on a desk and it would still shut off from just touching it. We decided to go to the store and talk to them about the problems i was having. They insist they know what the problem is, but constantly being rude was the tech shaking the computer for over 15 minutes and the problem ive been having happened right in front of the mans eyes. He had a scared look on his face. The owner comes in and decides to start smart talking me. They will not exchange the computer and they wouldnt even let me purchase another one and give it back even though we were going to spend more money. WORST EXPERIENCE NEVER GO TO THAT STORE

Worst experience ever! I bought an ibm thinkpad laptop for what I thought was a good price, but after doing some research realized I could have purchased it Online for half the price. After a month and a half it stopped working (screen would go blank when booting up windows). I brought it back with my receipt & charged me $50 to repair it. The tech said all he needed to do was re-run windows. Unfortunatly that didn't fix the problem, so then he said I needed a new hard drive. They charged me for that and ordered a used harddrive. They kept giving me different dates for when the laptop would be ready, but I would call that day or the next and they would say the part still hadn't come in yet. Their customer service stinks because they could have at least called me all those times to tell me there would be a delay. Finally a month later the part came in, but that didn't fix the problem either. So then the technician said it was the video card on the motherboard, and that it wouldn't be worth it to purchase a new motherboard. They coudn't fix it and wouldn't give me my money back.. so I was stuck with a bunk computer and out alot of money. The only thing they offered was a good deal on buying another computer. I didn't want to do business them again, but went in anyway to talk to the manager about what kind of deal he could give me. He played stupid like he didn't know what I was talking about. The store is run by very young and dumb people as well. The technician was nice but helpful. I asked him why he didn't inform me that for $50 he may or MAY NOT be able to fix it, that way I would at least be prepared for losing my $50 without the computer being repaired. His response was that usually they are able to fix it. I will never do business again with this shady company!

I purchased an A Power 600w sata power supply from this punk store, and less than four months later, it burned up. I went there today to see what they would do about it, and a kid told me there was nothing he could to about it. I asked to see a manager, he said, "I'm the manager". If a 20 something, know very little about hardware, kid is the manager, god save us! He also told me that he had no way to contact tech support for the product I bought from that store. What store doesn't know how to get in contact with one of its suppliers?
So, to make a long story end, I'm without my main computer that earns me money, I will now lose about 5 grand in income this month waiting for the manufacturer to replace my power supply, when Micomp could have very easily just replaced it for me. By the way, he tested it and also admitted it was bad!

I purchased a laptop at MICOMP located at 6170 W Grand Avenue #495 in Gurnee Mills/ Gurnee IL 60031 and it had problem after problem; the store had misled me during my purchase I was told that the computer was new and was not one that had been refurbished.
I took this computer home removed it from its packaging and attempted to load my software; however the CD drive would not open. I tried repeatedly but the drive would not open. I phoned the store at 847-855-1352 and talked with the young man that answered the phone (??Alex?). I explained that I had purchased a laptop about an hour ago and that I had arrived home and tried opening the CD drive for software installation and the drive would not open. He asks me several questions in an attempt to troubleshoot. I.e., is the computer plugged in and turned on? After a few of these useless questions, I confirmed that I am very familiar with the setup and operation of computers as this wasn??t something that I was doing or not doing, the computer was defective. He explained that they did not have another Dell Laptop like the one I had purchased and that they would see if they had another CD drive to replace the defective drive.
The following day I returned with the computer and they did not have another drive in stock, they stated that they would repair the existing drive. I requested a different computer and was denied, after being hassled, I simply accepted the computer with the repaired CD drive. The following week the computer drive again began sticking and the cycle began again. The warranty was for 30 days only and after that, I was stuck with a defective computer.
Keep in mind, these MICOMP computers are inadequately refurbished, (even if they tell you its new), MICOMP has a NO REFUND ALL SALES FINAL policy in place, (they know that you will be dissatisfied) and MICOMP will not except checks (because you will have time to stop payment on a check and simply return the product).
It??s a win ?? win for MICOMP and a LOSE LOSE for you the consumer.

I first noticed this place years ago at Gurnee Mills, and while I usually visit anytime I'm there, I usually come away a bit disgusted.

In the worst case, certain things appear to sit on their shelves for years. For example, there are three off-brand 10/100 ethernet switches (think they're blue and red fronted) which have been there for several years. A business partner wryly noted that the 3Com networking gear next to them had also been there a long time. They've got rackmount servers that look like they've been abused, and last time I asked, their prices were way out of line with what was available on eBay. Most of the accessories that they have in stock seem to be priced higher than what you'd get if you just went down to OfficeMax.

That all said, they have some excellent-looking deals on off-lease computers. Make sure your purchase has a certificate of authenticity for any software that's included, and make sure you have the install media so that you can do a clean install from a trusted source.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this place, I just think that their presence in the mall causes their costs to be higher, and since I don't think they're moving stuff that fast, and prices drop rapidly on used gear, I think they're a bit overpriced. If you're a smart shopper that is familiar with computers and isn't put off by "reload the OS from scratch," then this place is probably good for you. I'm less confident that the average Gurnee Mills shopper who walks in the door will have a positive experience.

Within the last ten years (longer than I can specifically remember),
I bought a $5-$10 jewelbox-CD-game for my pc,
at Micomp Computer, Gurnee Mills.
I asked before paying, whether I could return it if there was a problem. The store person said yes.

After I paid, he stamped the receipt with something to the effect,
"no return for any reason."

Removes my willingness to buy an off-lease computer there, which I almost certainly would, IF I trusted the store's integrity.

Is there another store (within 12-20 miles) that sells off-lease computers?

Also, what should a customer do, when after purchasing merchandise, the seller stamps the receipt with something that makes a lie of what they just told you re service/warranty/etc. ?
(I probably should have complained to the Better Business Bureau, and perhaps Gurnee Mills, at the time.)

I have bought a couple computers from them and no problem until the last computer i bought crashed and i don't have the receipt but they do scan each computer when it leaves with its own number and since i do not have the receipt they want to charge me all kinds of money to diagnose there bad hard drive. Scam do not use them. I'm not asking for anything but a replacement hard drive and they wont do it. I will be in touch with the Better business bureau.

Over the last several years I have bought over a dozen machines from these guys. All but one of them refurbished - either by them or the factory.

Have not had any problems with any of the computers and saved a ton of dollars.
