Cafe Jumping Bean is the perfect place to get your coffee and dessert! It offers such a variety of desserts too choose from and the coffee here is so fresh! In addition to this the cozy and warm environment cannot be beat! I highly recommend this place to their yummy desserts and their excellent coffee!

This cafe does have great food and friendly service; however, it is rather small and stuffy, and it is usually pretty packed. Although the management tries to discourage people from hanging out all day using the internet, half the time when I go in to eat I can't find a place to sit so I end up just taking food to go (and the food is really good, so it's worth it). As a grad student, I am always looking for places I can spend a few hours in, eating lunch, reading for awhile, working on-line, then having another cup of coffee, etc. (in other words, I eat and drink continually at a coffee shop; I don't want to sit at a table for 4 hours nursing 1 cup of coffee, but I like to go somewhere where I don't feel rushed to give up my seat as soon as I'm done). In my opinion, Efebos Internet Cafe also has great food (it's just around the corner on Blue Island) and is a much, much more comfortable place to spend an afternoon (it's spacious and has both more and larger tables than Jumping Bean). So, if you want to sit down for half an hour and eat, go to Jumping Bean, but if you want to linger (and not sweat- seriously, Jumping Bean gets super hot in the summer) then go to Efebos.

The Jumping Bean coffee shop is a great little spot in the heart of Pilsen. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is great. It is a great place to study or have coffee and dessert with a friend. The coffee is strong and delicious.

This place is a hold-out, an oasis even. Nobody rushes you, the servers are friendly, the prices are cheap. They'll spot you change if you don't have it (pay later, even), and the food is delicious. The high-speed wireless is free, and it's quiet enough that you can work, but friendly enough that you can chat with people at other tables, and the servers really seem to enjoy working there (a rarity among coffee shops). The deserts could use some work, but the sandwiches (particularly the veggie burger) are a steal, and best of all, the place gets a great mix of locals, artists, hipsters, and yuppies, not to mention the occasional on-duty cop.

Pros: This is what a coffee shop should be.

Cons: Chairs are a little stiff for sitting. Then again, it's Pilsen, not Wicker Park.

This is the Pilsen neighborhood's most popular coffee house, and for good reason. The coffee is bracing, the food is consistently good, and they offer table service like it's nothing out of the ordinary. The interior showcases Pilsen's vibrant Hispanic culture in its art and reading material. It's a perfect waystation for a walking tour. Unless you live here, it's probably the only coffee fill-up you need to know about.

PROS: Good food, friendly staff, convenient location, lively decorations
CONS: Somewhat limited space

Pilsen has become one of my new favorite neighborhoods - there is so much life, culture, and love that exudes from the community and CJB pretty much embodies those qualities. The artwork is everywhere - from the toilet seat in the bathroom, to the tables, to all the walls. The service is great. Even when it gets pretty busy, ppl there never fail to smile. The food is excellent: the works pizza - a mish mash of fresh veggies, pepperoni, cheese on foccacia bread, the chili con carne (esp with some hot sauce), and the almond chocolate muffin.

I love the mexican hot chocolate. It is not champurrado! Great morning bagel with cucumber, tomatoe & cream cheese. Want to play a game of chess? Grab the board. There are several.
