I've bought 3 formal vintage dresses from Wacky Cats. The store has a lot of variety but mainly specializes in the 50's era. Each time I've been here, Karen (the owner) always helps me in choosing the perfect dress. She's very knowledgeable in her decades of fashion and alterations. Wacky Cats also carries jewelry, 'novelty' t shirts and Men's vintage clothes.

Cons: Small selection of men's clothing

Imagine a vintage shop here in Chicago that does not sell bad 80's as vintage! If you are seeking out true vintage clothing this is the shop for you. They carry 30's - 70's I would say they are heaviest on the 50's which I love, love, love! The do carry some re-pros which are blend in nicely with the vintage clothing. The prices are on the higher side but knowing that the garments have been cleaned prior to selling them make me feel better about the cost. The staff is always helpful and is very knowledgeable on their era's. This is always one of my first stops when I need a new dress!

PROS: great quality vintage
CONS: parking can be difficult

I adore this shop!! If you really love vintage clothing especially 50's dresses and hand bags this is the shop for you. This girl knows vintage clothing like the back of her hand. the owner is quite knowledgeable about her era's and how the dresses should fit. She can round up any and all dresses that are in your size range in a flash kind of like a personal shopper. Which if you are short on time is a huge help. The men's selection is weak but they do also carry re pros for both the guys & girls. Not the cheapest vintage shop in town but the clothing is clean and ready to wear that day!

Dark, dingy, and just gross.

Sure theres a few decent things here and there, but in general....not the kind of place you wanna spend more than 15 minutes in.

Yellow Jacket down the street is amazing and much more 'fashionable'

I got a 50s party dress from her online store. when it came it was stained all over the skirt and Karen (the owner) had written in the description "She presents as if she was never worn, in pristine vintage condition" then when I emailed her to get a refund she tells me that the dress was not stained when she sent it out and that it must be the post offices fault. It most certainly was not the post offices fault the box was it great condition and had not been messed with and besides the brown splotches all over the skirt were obviously old! She refused to give me a refund or even store credit so I took it up with the better business bureau and she didn't even respond! DO NOT buy anything from this lying woman.

I used to go this store, but after a couple of visits I don't anymore. She is pushy. After I tell her what I am looking for she starts showing me things that are not what I want. Being a costume designer I need it to be exact or pretty damn close to my vision. She is condenscending too. She is on you as soon as you walk in I prefer to browse and be left alone unless I need your help. Prices are pretty high too. I prefer Night and Day on Belmont near western. The owner is great and she always give me breaks and discounts, making me want to come back.

Wacky Cats has been around since the first time I visited chicago and I always try to make a point of stopping here to see what "new" items they got in. they tons of vintage dresses from the 20's through 70's (flappers are my favorite) and it feels more like a costume shop than a clothing store. the dresses run $100+ but they are made of quality materials, not mass produced in a factory somewhere. the store isn't very big but they pack a lot of clothes in and the dressing rooms are nice. expect to walk out of here with something (vintage shirt, hat, dress, you name it) everytime you go. the employees were helpful and didn't mind that i tried on half a dozen dresses.

PROS: unique clothing, hard to find dresses
CONS:

This place is filled with lots of vintage wear. I think this place is in need of major organizaton. It is hard to get around and sift your way through things all the time. But there is help id you need it! You can always request the help of the person working there. They always know their way around pretty well and do a good job at helping you find things you need.

Wacky Cats has a wide variety of women's vintage clothing and some men's items too. You can find a huge selection of dresses, suits, blouses and accessories mainly from the 30s through the 70s.

Watch out there are some reproduction pieces in the mix. Plus, the owner is very pushy and slightly neurotic. Know what you want going in and find it yourself.

PROS: Selection
CONS: not enough men's items and the prices are a little high
