We??ve been very pleased with Jim??s Shoe & Luggage Repair ?? the owner is really named Michael, and he has been such a good source for so many of us. I work in Park Ridge and a coworker who lives in the area recommended this guy to me. I brought in several pairs of shoes for shining, a few others shoes and boots and purses for repairs. I have a beautiful leather coat but the belt was always too long, after talking it over with Michael I brought the belt in to be shortened, and the work was wonderful and the price just right. He fixed the broken strap on my daughter??s favorite purse just like that, and boy was she was happy to have it back. Lots of the ladies in the office use his services and we all have remarked that the work was outstanding and the prices reasonable, his handiwork gave new life to some shoes and boots we might not have otherwise kept. One time as I left the shop, in came a male coworker from Lutheran General bringing in his shoes as well as stuff from his wife, and he said, ??this guy is great. I??m so glad he??s here.?

I brought in a Burberry purse to have the leather strap repaired - to make a new hole he eyeballed it and just made the cut. Ruined the strap, as it was, of course, way off. When I complained that I couldn't believe he did this - he had done it right in front of me - he asked how much of the $50 repair I think I should pay. Uh, you RUINED at the very least, the leather strap, if not the whole purse - the reason I was bringing it in to be repaired is because the leather straps match the leather on the bottom of the purse and it was impossible to find matching leather, as the purse was about a year old and the leather had worn a bit. $400 purse, ruined. I told him of course I should pay $0 and he screamed at me I was planning on having him (ruin the purse?!) do this all along to get out of paying for the repair and threw me out of the store - BEWARE.

this is a dark, leather-smelling, shoe-packed old-fashioned place. One man does all the work and he does a respectable job. There isn't much call for this type of work anymore, but he is a craftsman. You can have soles replaced, torn shoes or purses resewn - all sorts of little jobs. They will be well done at Jim's. I have taken several purses and belts to be repaired and have been happy with the results.
