Hi fellow poets, readers, writers:

I walked out of this bookstore today at lunch and I was completely apalled. The owner, or whomever was behind the counter at the time, was the rudest person I have ever encountered in retail (and I used work in retail, so that is saying a lot!)

I walked in to sell some books and politely inquired if he??d be willing to look at some books I had to sell. The person behind the counter started looking through my things and handling them and giving them looks as if they were dog turds.

I asked politely again if he took old magazines, referencing some old "Look" magazines I had in my hands. He flatly said no, and when I asked kindly, "does the library take them?" he smarmily responded, "just throw them in recycling."

He then proceded to make two piles of my books and with attitude said most of my books were of obscure poets he didnt know. (Not much of a reader if he doesnt know who Anne Sexton is!)

Then he warily and dismissively as if I were peasant girl, waved away the pile he didnt like and said "Ten bucks for these." I smiled, again, politely, and said, "How about 15?"

And then he said, "You know what, no, I dont want these at all. I just dont want these."

I packed up my things very flustered and angry.

DO NOT EVER go to this bookstore. I am telling all of my professor and writer friends not to go there.

I tried to do the right thing by supporting a local business, but I really hope this guy goes out of business.
