I went to Midwest a few weeks ago and found their selection of bushes and plants to look in bad shape compared to other nurseries in the area and home improvement stores (lowes, home depot).

We did not get honest service from this company at all! They would not answer calls after we paid a deposit for landscape. We kept calling to get a date. Four weeks later they just arrived at our house. They said the rainy season had put them behind (understandable, but they could have called). Then they brought substitutes which were okay, but when all of the substitutes died three weeks later they said they do not guarantee perennials, then the next call they said that we had an extremely warm summer and that I had not watered well (all other plants fine). The next excuse was that this type of perennial dies out mid summer anyway....so if it dies midsummer why plant it the third week of July? They charged for three trips out, came once with two trucks (one tree, 10 plants). When asked about it, they said that was for the supervisor. We asked for a specific size tree, we were charged for that size, we were willing to pay more for a larger tree; it is small, not what we asked for. They were EXTREMELY difficult to work with after their were problems. Then just so you know..they email but their email address comes in under NOXIN which you assume is spam and so does your computer email. We will not use them, even though I love their showroom, they are not people of integrity...very sad for a locally owned business. I could not get the stars to cooperate on this website...I give them ZERO stars.

I bought an October Blaise Maple tree. It was a 3 inch trunck and very nice tree when I purshased it. The tree had a one year warranty on it. It was planted in Oct 2006. The tree is now half dead in spring 2008. The owner Mike Franz was very difficult to speak with. He was very condescending and rude when explaining to him my tree issue. He was just looking at my problem like I was trying to recieve a free tree. He would not work with me at all. I paid alot of money for this tree and expected for the nursery to at least try to diagnose the tree problem or give me a dicount on a new tree because it was out of warranty. Mike Franz was rude and hung up on me. I would advise no one to use this nursery

We get our mulch from this place every year or so when we freshen up our yard in the spring. Their prices on mulch are pretty good, but the thing I like about going there is the inside showroom and the outdoor nursery. They have a lot of "hard to find" perennials and shrubs but it's not hard to find something you like inside their showroom, which is coincidentally where you pay for your purchases, so you can't avoid going inside! They have a lot of very beautiful and unusual "yard art" type of things - birdbaths, fountains, decorative outdoor accessories. Their prices are a bit high, but it's stuff you generally can't find anywhere else, so it's worth it. The only downside to this place is that it's usually not adequately staffed, it can be tough to talk to someone and it can take a long time to "check out" your purchases.

PROS: Great selection
CONS: Prices are a little high and service could be faster...
