Best Ribs You Will Ever Eat In Your Life! Call ahead and make a reservation. You will still have to wait a little while but grab a drink at the bar made with their homemade sweet and sour and you wont care any more. Make sure you sit by the window and close to the jazz band on a Friday or Saturday! OMG this place it so freaken good!!! The skillet cornbread and the Banana Cream Pie are also must haves!!!

Stopped for lunch, and the menu said "Our Famous french Dip sandwich". I asked the waiter why it was famous, and she said just because it was so darn good, so I ordered it.

It came out on a warm flaky light bread roll, with hot shaved

As if the wonderful enviornment isn't enough. It's great here!! I was introduced to Bandera on a date a few years back and now i'm here on a regular basis! There macho salad is delicious! The rotisserie chicken, as you'll noticed cooking just right when you walk in, is so tender! perfect for salads! excellent wine choice! the best part is the piano player on a nice romantic relaxed evening! i would recommend checking out bandera in the winter months. fresh snow .. sitting by the window over looking michigan ave and the lights.. beautiful! no complaints!

I am embarrassed to admit this: as someone born and raised in Chicago who has been up and down the Magnificent Mile many, many times, I never knew Bandera was a restaurant! I always thought it was some high-end clothing store.

I was visiting my hometown for a conference in March 2010, and was looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't crowded with hundreds of conference attendees. After checking an app on my iPod Touch (Urban Spoon), I went to Bandera (which was directly across the street from my hotel).

This is a great place if you are dining alone, on a date, or with a group. I thought the atmosphere was very calm and relaxing, especially overlooking the hustle and bustle of Michigan Avenue from the window. There was live jazz music and the service was great. I found the staff to be very friendly and knowledgable of the menu. My server recommended blackened and grilled Hawaiian Amberjack...I haven't stopped thinking about it since that night.

The menu items are a bit pricey, but I think it's reasonable considering the portion sizes. I will definitely be back the next time I am in town.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago simply for the Center-Cut Filet with Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Spinach. It's delicious. ( And when I'm feeling really gluttonous, the House-Made Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert. Heavenly. )

They have live jazz musicians playing on the weekend and I enjoy the candle lit tables. It is on the pricey side - but it's worth it. It's conveniently located across the street from the 600 N. Michigan movie theater so my friends and I often make it a part of our "Dinner and Movie" plans.

For the first time in Bandera??s history, we were served by someone whose opening remark was not ??Have you dined with us before?? It could have been all downhill from there.

Many ghosts-of-business-past haunt Bandera??s space and we were certain Bandera would soon be just another apparition. Had we known they had Hillstone Restaurant Group??s money behind it we would not have been so cavalier with the predictions. But financial security has a price and as any seasoned diner will attest, chains like HRG, Grand Lux and McCormick and Schmick have a rigid, corporate feel that removes the distinction from even the wait staff??s appearance and personality. Having worked a block away and eaten at Bandera over 50 times I find it uncanny that I have never had the same server more than once and yet never has the experience deviated in so much as a single variable right down to the opening question. Except today.

Naturally, we wondered what else would be different. The menu was the same. The ??soup? was still chicken chili which was not as spicy as we remembered but still delicious. The Veggie Burger was still the same outstanding mish-mash of guilt-free garden gunk that happens to be the best such mess in the city. Even the half-chicken which is the best item on the menu is still there having increased only $1 in 6 years to a budget-bursting $16. I figure that??s an inflation-adjusted 10 bucks. Even ordering it with all white-meat does not incur additional cost (as it does at sister restaurant Houston??s). However, they will get this wrong almost 25% of the time through either waiter omission or kitchen illiteracy. So how does Bandera remain so inexpensive?

We??ve already established that the restaurant must turn-over all of its staff every month or so. Bad even by food-service standards. HRG must really squeeze the hell out of its employees. And today, unlike most work lunches, we ordered drinks. A Bloody Mary costs $9 and contains little more than 2 shots of liquid. The Mimosa contains ice and mostly orange juice but was served in a huge wine glass. Ice with Champagne? Who??s idea was that? Just serve it in a normal flute and skip the fillers.

In all, Bandera is a fine restaurant with a great view of the avenue below it. The food is far better than it needs to be for the price and unless you??re trying to get drunk the meal won??t cost you much. Just be careful asking the staff robots to deviate from script because such curveballs will almost always guarantee a wait.

Pros: Chicken, Macho Salad, Chili

Cons: Service Mistakes, drink quantities vs price

.

I really like the feel of this place; very cozy, friendly staff and good food. I ordered the grilled fish sandwich and this is my favorite. The desserts are equally good as well. It's a little pricey and gets very crowded around lunchtime but the food is great. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.

Their cole slaw with peanuts was AMAZING. not pulpy, not vinigarey, tasted like a touch of Thai. The fish sandwich was unbelievable. Automatic favorite restaurant if they can make a 16 year old like fish

It's a chain, people! WHY would you go here when there are thousands of better independent restaurants in the city?? I truly find this place to not only be a tourist trap, but horrifically overpriced and underwhelming as far as food quality is concerned. Plus, I don't enjoy being duped by their marketing strategy. It has a different "local" name in every city...Do yourself a favor and patronize a locally owned and operated, authentically Chicago restaurant!

My wife and I just went to Bandera for the second time to celebrate her birthday, and it was as good as we expected - and we had high expectations after the first visit...! We found out it's the same owner as Houston's in LA, which we loved too, so that explained a lot of things, as there are a lot of similarities between the places.
We love the atmosphere and service, but above all - the great food...! The menu is small, but every piece is well made. The grilled artichoke is a "carry over" favorite of ours from Houston's and the corn bread is as good as others have already noted.
The coleslow salad is the best I ever had, and in fact, it's so delicate and tasty, it really doesn't look, feel and taste like a typical coleslow - highly recommended! My wife can't get enough of the BBQ ribs, which are really done right - very tender and with just the right amount of flavour (so you can still taste the meat, not just the souce...). We tried the crab cakes on our last visit, which were a special, and they were among the best we had. Also highly recommended.
On the weekends, you really do want to make a reservation, particulalry if you're planning on dinner.
To get the "full experience", the best area to sit is by the window, as you'll enjoy both the view and the live jazz music. It may be worth an extra wait.

I love this restaurant! The atmosphere is amazing. It's on the second floor, overlooking Michigan Ave. There is a nice jazz band that plays on certain nights too. The ribs are absolutely amazing. And the cole slaw is to die for! This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants ever!

My family and I love this restaurant. We will in fact be going there tomorrow to celebrate my husbands birthday but we also go whenever my mother comes down from michigan as she loves it also. I would rate customer service a 10 out of 10. When we were last there we had lemon drop martinis, grilled artichokes (my favorite) and prime rib. They came with a fresh chilled glass for my martini when they saw that my glass was no longer chilled which quite frankly sets them apart from most other places just from that small service but all through the meal they were super and have been there every time I have ever been there.

I cannot believe that anyone would rate this restaurant 1 star and in my opinion 10 percent is reserved for the worst service. If a foreigner is not familiar with customs then perhaps the local should have offered to help him with the local customs or as a polite guest left the tip since his business associate paid for the meal.

To eater 32323, you should have given 5 stars to this restaurant instead of 1. The fact that the management is not afraid to stand up for its staff is not just honorable, it is good business. If 10% tips were all the the staff in this restaurant received, then the quality of staff would go down as they would leave to go to other restaurants where they are taken care in a customary and appropriate manner. Then the service as a whole would suffer, and eventually business would decline. Anyone who is in business, especially international business, should understand that it is very important to follow the etiquette and customs of whichever nation they are doing business in. The fact that your colleague only tipped 10% means 1 of 2 things. Either he/she is not professional enough to learn the etiquette rules of this country or they are simply cheap. Either way, you may want to consider not associating with this type of individual.

This is a great lunch spot. Overlooking Michigan Avenue this makes for a great place to eat when out shopping for the day. The rotisserie grills make for some excellent chicken dishes and the veggie burger is my absolute favorite EVER! Gotta try this one!

I was on a business lunch. I was with a foreign gentleman who invited me to lunch. He insisted on paying. He did. The manager comes to us as we're leaving and starts talking to us like she's about to give us a customer survey or something. Then she goes, "On the flipside, we like to make sure that our guests take care of our staff. " (For a brief second, thoughts of waitress in the back sobbing after a groping incident went through my head.) "Typically, we receive 15 to 20%, and you left only 10. Can I ask, was this a mistake?" The gentleman asks to take a look and she's like, "oh see, that's an 8 and a 6, and oh go ahead, just change it right on there."

This is the most absurd behavior I have ever seen. First of all, you're on Michigan Avenue! If you don't expect tourists who do not know our customs to tip less, get off of Michigan Avenue!

We were discussing a contract worth several tens of thousands of dollars, and she wants to chime in for a measly 5 extra bucks. (not to mention her talking to me as if I was guilty of this horrific crime as well.) I am sickened by this incident and wish that nobody would ever go there again.

After this we both were like, "Okay, well, I gotta go." And the meeting was over. Our meeting was over because the *#^*!(! staff at this place embarrassed the hell out of everyone so bad that we just had to leave.

Bandera is my husband's and my first stop whenever we come to Chicago. We love the food, the atmosphere and the service.

Our favorites include the roasted chicken, the hamburgers, the fries and the grilled artichoke.

We have enjoyed equally dining at a window seat, sitting in a booth near the chefs and sitting at the bar to watch a game on the tv as we dined.

We stay in the Chicago for long weekends and typically dine at Bandera each night after seeing a wonderful theatre production.

We highly recommend this restaurant to all!

Went with my 2 cousins and my mom for my mom's birthday dinner. The rotisserie chicken is AWESOME...also, the cornbread is great. Nice atmosphere and good service. We sat at a table by the window so great view of Michigan Avenue. We had reservations yet we still had to wait about 20 minutes so that was annoying!!!! Will be going back ;)

The food here was a little overpriced for it's quality. The atmosphere is wonderful though. Spacious tables that are secluded from other parties, romantic lighting, and great views of Michigan Ave. The live music was a plus as well. However, I wasn't impressed with the food and probably won't go back.

After a day of shopping, my wife and I were very hungry and were looking for a place to eat at off of Michigan. We walked in Bandera and were very happy with the half hour wait, since it was a Saturday at aroun 7:30. We sat at the bar and waited for our table. We found the atmosphere very satisfying and really enjoyed the food once we were seated. Our largest issue with the restaurant was that they were too quick with bringing our food. We were halfway through our appetizer when our dinner was brought to us. Otherwise, I recemmend it to others.

Despite the Michigan Ave location, this restaurant has a mix of business people and locals in addition to the tourists. As far as basic comfort food goes, it doesn't get much better than Bandera - I love the cornbread and coleslaw and as far as entrees go I really haven't ever had anything that wasn't very good. If you're on Michigan Ave, this is one of the best sit-down places to go.

The food was decent but service was terrible. As we (party of 6) finished our dinner the waitstaff lurked in the wings to remove our plates as quickly as possible. They even removed removed plates individually as we finished rather than appropriately waiting until all had finished. It gets worse, one in our party was chewing her food andstill had food on her plate when her plate was removed.Another plate was quickly placed on top of her plate...so the remaining food couldn't be save. When we noted this to waitstaff, a manager was sent over who offered no help. Her response was that we should have told the staff to NOT remove the plates (impossible for the person chewing food). To place the onus on us was incredible. The manager gave us no comfort or explanation other than to say "sorry". To sum it up -- decent food...bad service...unprofessional managers.

When I first entered, everything smelled wonderful, but the menu looked like very traditional American food. I am not a big fan of American food what so ever; however, after getting our meals I was amazed. Everything we had was awesome tasting. The steak, the salmon, the veggie burger, the corn, and the salad. I didn't think there was such a thing as good American food, but this is the place to have it.

Chicken is good and love the corn bread. Expected a bit more out of the food but still impressed.
My date and I enjoyed the live jazz along with the great view of Michigan Ave.

Pros: Not a long wait, Live music

I thought this place was a sure thing based on reviews, but was not impressed when we left Bandera. It was at 10pm (an hour before they supposedly closed) on a Friday night, but was not packed (no wait). My boyfriend and I were there for our first dinner of our anniversary weekend after seeing it was across the street from our hotel. We sat across from each other in a tiny booth. There wasn't much selection on the menu. Food came fairly quickly, but was not warm, borderline cold. Music was not constant, but that was good because you couldn't hear across from you anyway, even on the other side of the place from the band. We will definitely never return. :(

I've been to Bandera twice and sat by the window each time. The view of Michigan Avenue is great. The chicken sandwich was like none I had tasted before and the guacamole and chips were excellent. Great service both times too!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The food was excellent. I do not know how much he paid but I hear it is moderate.

On the one night I had in Chicago, I chose to eat at Bandera's because of a memory of a dinner I had five years ago. I was not disappointed, rather I was reminded how much I loved the food and atmosphere. Great restaurant. Hopefully it won't take five years to get back!

My husband and I have fell in love with this restaurant after we first discovered it 6 years ago. It has the best value for your money and the food is excellent, especially their house salad, filet medalion, and banana cream pie! Since we had a baby, we've also discovered that they're very child-friendly as well. It is especially romantic if you get a seat by the window overlooking the street during the winter season when the lights are on the trees. The music is awesome when they have it but it can get vert noisy at times, depending on the crowd. The crowd is also mostly Chicago locals, I think. So, you avoid the usual tourist traffic. We recommend this restaurant to all our friends. It is, by far, our favorite restaurants in Chicago.

Pros: Great Prices, Excellent Food, Wonderful Music

Cons: Too loud at times, No big tables

I love this joint. Killer ribs and chicken. Dark and jazzy atmosphere -- with a live jazz band on Fridays and Saturdays.

I defintely recommend the blue cheese chips. If you like blue, you will love this app. Also, ice cold Sierra Nevada's are ready when you are.

Great place. It's a chain but you wouldn't know it.

It's pretty dark and clubby looking when you first walk in, but if you can get a table by the windows overlooking Michigan Avenue, you're set. The macho salad is big and satisfying--definitely a diet-breaker, though. It's got sweet-ish creamy dressing, chicken, nuts and goat cheese creating complementary flavors and textures. The cornbread is sweetened, too, but the jalapenos add a mellow smoky flavor--very delicious, and almost impossible to stop munching on. I'd recommend this restaurant to people who've been shopping on Michigan Ave and are craving a satisfying lunch or dinner in a more casual atmosphere.

This address on Michigan Avenue might seem like an unlikely location for a casual place, but there's a reason it stuck. Proof comes in the "hacked" honey-lime vinaigrette chicken salad with peanut sauce and memorable rotisserie chicken,…
