I was recently visiting relatives in Illinois and my check engine light went on. I took my Nissan Altima to Elmhurst auto clinic to find out what the problem was. They understood the fact that I was from out of state and worried about my car being safe to get back home. They quickly got me in, diagnosed an oxygen sensor, fixed the problem, and got me back on the road. Everyone was polite, I felt I was fairly charged for the work and NOT taken advantage of because I was in a bind and out of state. The check engine light stayed off and my car has been fine since. Thanks for the good work!

I have been taking both my cars to the Elmhurst Auto Clinic for over 16 years. The work is Always done in a Professional manor and the Prices are always fair. Barry and Chris are great to deal with and stand behind their work. I would recommend this Family Business to Anyone.

Take your business elsewhere. I had a terrible experience at Elmhurst Auto Clinic on 2/18/2012. I went in for a routine oil change and requested synthetic oil as I always do, which of course is more expensive, but what is recommended for my vehicle. I also asked them to check my tire pressure and add air as needed because my low pressure indicator light was on. When I left I noted the low pressure indicator light was still on so I went back inside and asked them to please check my tire pressure. The owner insisted that the tech had taken the pressure and adjusted my tires accordingly - that it would take a bit of driving for the computer to reset itself. Okay fine. I drove around quite a bit and it didn't go off. I called my dealership concerned that I might have a more serious onboard computer issue. The dealer service department confirmed that the computer resets itself after a few miles and all tires should be set to 35 psi - they instructed me to check my tire pressure via the onboard computer explaining that the tire pressure is real time. I checked the pressure and still 2 tires had low pressure and they were all set to different psi. I stopped at a service station and put air in and sure enough the air pressure changed on the computer in real time. At this point I was annoyed and then I look at the oil change sticker on my windshield only to find they gave me regular 5W30 not synthetic as I had requested and paid for. I went back to the shop to explain my experience and request the difference in cost between a the two different oils. The owner insisted that he had given me the synthetic and the tech just typed up the sticker wrong. I asked him to prove to me he had indeed used synthetic oil in my car as since he had already decieved me about the air, which is free, I was not convinced. He started yelling and using profanity telling me to get out of his shop and that he would have me arrested. The irony! I suggested he call the police so I could tell my side of the story. He then informed me that he works on the police chief's car. I am sure he doesn't rip him off. As I was alone I began to get nervous that they would do malicious damage to my car so I decided to dispute the charge with my credit card company. After the incident I found terrible reviews all over the web and even with the Better Business Bureau. Take your business elsewhere.

I went in requesting for them to check my battery, as my son left the dome light on. Of course, they came back with needing a new battery and alternator for $560. So, we agreed without checking any reviews. I got the car back, drove it to work the next day and the battery light came on and remained on. The shop claimed that they must have gotten a faulty alternator from the supplier. At closing time when my husband went to get the car, it wasn't ready because the supplier had brought over the wrong alternator. They needed to keep the car for the night. Car was finished the next day, and when I got there, my car had a noticeable "ding" on the door. I hate confrontations, but went in anyway (with my kids) to tell them about the "ding". The son came out, scolded me and said, "Lady, that is not a ding, that is a chip. And furthermore, this chip is on the door, and just so you know, the engine is in the front of the car." The next day my husband went to make sure that the "new battery" was not drained while I drove the entire day with a faulty alternator. He was greeted by the owner and son to an obscenity laced tirade and was verbally assaulted. After the incident and some research, it has come to our attention that not only do they get an F from the Better Business Bureau, but that the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce will not even allow the EAC to try to reinstate their membership because they have such poor customer service and are such miserable people with which to deal. The Chamber of Commerce indicated that this was not the first complaint that they've recieved, and knew exactly to whom we were referring simply by hearing the story. The EAC guys take advantage of more than just women, and jokingly told my neighbor when he was in that they just "stole" some money from an unsuspecting customer by convincing him to have unnecessary work done. During the EAC owners tirade to my husband, he said "I own this town. I've put everybody else out of business. I make over $3 million a year." My response to this...please pass this on to every Elmhurst resident and Elmhurst college student that you know. Read the other reviews here and the many more on the other sites, and it will be obvious that this place is dishonest, as well as opportunistic in their dealings. I have heard from others that the EAC makes a big push to get the "unsuspecting" local college students to come in, as they have a great location near the college.

I'm not surprised after reading the negative comments on here. It takes me back to a couple years ago when the day after I had an oil change here I took my car back in because it was making a rattling sound. The owner of the place got real defensive and basically acting like a jerk and offended that I even suggest it could be a possiblity that they were responsible for what happened. I walked out of the place saying I'd never come to this place again and haven't. In fact, when asked about this place by locals, I always pass along this story.

The BBB pretty much says it all. Elmhurst Auto Clinic continues to maintain an "F" rating at www.bbb.org

The best way to describe this business is "Caveat Emptor".

Get an opinion from another mechanic before or after leaving this place. Never come here in an emergency, you'll be sorry.
If you break down across the street, do yourself a favor, get your car towed to another part of town!

Here's a quick way to test this place.Go there for an oil change and tell them to check anything else on your car that you know is in good shape but you suspect it's making noise.
The owner will tell you it definitely needs to be replaced and then some.

I did this just as a test.
I asked him to check my brakes after checking them myself. He said I needed about $900.00 worth of brake work! HA!
Just in case, I took it to another place after explaining I didn't have the money to fix it and the owner insisted I put it on a credit card. HA! Fat chance!
The other fellow said the brakes were good for another 6 months or so and to come back then or if I started to hear squealing.
I went back 3 months later to the 2nd guy and he charged me $150.00 for the whole thing!

The owner has no morals or scruples, he has lost me and my friends as customers. He is the scumbag that others have written about him!

I took my car in to have some tires rebalanced. When I returned to pick up my vehicle the tires were only half filled with air around 15psi these tires are rated at 30 psi. When I asked the owner if the tires were balanced he stated that they were, I asked how when the tire pressure wasn't up to 30 psi. At that point he was very belligerent and kicked me out of his store. If I had more time on my hands I would picket in front of his store warning potential customers. I don't know how the stay in business

Ask a local in Elmhurst about this place. Everybody's got a story. In my case they didn't tell me the component they were replacing was under warranty. Only found out about it because we kept having strange follow up problems (you hear this part from everybody) that required more and more work and we gave up and went to the dealer. Cost us just under a thousand dollars to fix something that would have been free.\n\nThey were completely unapologetic either about ripping us off, or about doing it so poorly and blatantly that the work had to be re-done. People here just shrug. They have a fantastic, convenient location that keeps people coming in.\n\nDon't do it.

I have never had a bad experience at Elmhurst Auto Clinic since I started using them in 2002. Barry and Chris are honest business owners and understand car repair. They consistently delivery great service at a fair price. They have done oil changes, brakes, emission equipment and tire repair for me on five different vehicles. I highly recommend Elmhurst Auto Clinic for dependable and fair-priced service.

Is it possible to give a review of negative stars? The basic idea with this place is to avoid it like the plague. I took my boyfriends vehicle there with a tire problem while we were in town working an art show and the two men in the office, one seemed like the owner, were sexist, tried to rip me off, and personally attacked myself and my boyfriend.

Before I even had them look at the tire the "owner" directly implied I wouldn't know what year the vehicle was because I was a woman. Then upon seeing the tire they tried to convince me it couldn't be repaired and should be replaced. When I decided not to have it repaired there they started telling me my boyfriend was an F*cking idot, I should break up with him, that I was putting people at danger and they "hated people like me." The insults went on and on. They directly swore at me and about my boyfriend. It is no wonder I didn't want to have my vehicle serviced there. I have never experienced such verbal abuse.
When they finally gave me back my keys they blocked me in so I couldn't leave. They left me sitting in my car for about 10 min. When we took the car to a different place they had no problem fixing the tire and it has been fine. Not to mention the price they quoted me for a tire was outrageously expensive, much more then I could get it somewhere else.

These people were jerks, I would never go back there and because of my service have considered reporting them to the BBB.

The father son team puts you at ease rightaway and then do a thorough check-up of the car, and if a repair is really necessary, recommend with very reasonable charges.... honesty seems to be the driving force.. which is pretty rare these days... will highly recommend them

I have been going to Elmhurst Auto for years, I have never been unhappy with them ever. One incident, after bringing in my car to the dealer, I have gone back to them for work that wasn't covered under warranty. They not only saved me money but unnecessary work that didn't need to be done as the dealership stated. A father and son team that is honest, dependable and friendly. Location is easy to get to, you can walk around downtown Elmhurst or grab a cup of coffee at Starbucks while you wait. A second Auto Clinic is also located in Villa Park.

Go anyplace other than here for your car needs. Terrible customer service! Took advantage of me by giving me an unmatched tire and then wanted to charge me to replace it with a matching one. Opportunitic and inflexible.

I usually take my auto to this shop for major repairs. They seem very competent (i'm surprised how little most auto shops seem to care about looking like they're competent- as a mechanic myself, I can tell when others don't seem to know their stuff) and they work fast. Prices are a little higher than some other local shops, but I think it's worth the cost.
