The movie was the best part of my experience. There were a few people in this place that don't under what the theater is for and surely not for holding everyday conversations.

Generally I prefer nicer venues but this is great movie theater because I think it's the least expensive one in the city. Also, unlike some of the smaller movie theaters it shows some current movies. I try to remember to check here first before heading to the local multiplex. And, like Brew and View, you can get alcohol here. Pretty good incentive in my book. They also have a showcase of independent films coming up soon. These are always good if only for the experimental nature of them.

PROS: Alcohol
CONS: Building could use some serious work.

Let's be real here. This place gives me the CREEPS! It's not very attractive or modern, that's for sure. But I do enjoy that they try to have different movies, not just mainstream. If I'm in the area, I may stop in, and I know some people like the fact they can enjoy a brew while watching the flick, so I guess that's a positive thing. The last couple of times I noticed a weird smell too. What the heck is that smell?!

3 Penny may be a small, seemingly hole-in-the-wall theatre, but what it lacks in updated decor, it makes up for in the variety of first-run, obscure, and foreign films shown. Prices for movies are very low. Matinee prices are $5 and matinee hours usually run to the 5PM showing. It's a great bargain for college kids who go to the DePaul University campus right around the corner.

This is a nice theater in the heart of Depaul's Section of Lincoln Park. It only has three screens, but it usually has good and current films showing. They best part of this theatre is that it is a BYOB, which means you can bring your own beer or wine into the theater and drink it there! This also means that there might be some drunk movie-patrons :)

PROS: BYOB
CONS: No parking

I love this charmin' li'l theater. It screens independent documentaries and cult features alongside second-run Hollywood fare. It sells alcohol. It's cozy and uniquely decorated. Unfortunately, I have to add that the last two times I went, the volume was too loud and the projection was slightly out-of-focus. I enjoyed the movies, but got a slight headache. All that aside, I'd rather support the Three Penny than any other movie house in Chicago. Seeing Simpsons writer Harry Shearer do Q&A after his seldom-seen feature film The Teddy Bears' Picnic certainly made up for any of the place's shortcomings.

PROS: Great atmosphere, adventurous movie choices, low ticket prices
CONS: Projection difficulties
