Foodstuffs stocks an array of specialty items, prepared foods, bread, sweets, and cheese, as well as a smallish (but high quality) selection of fresh seafood. They also have a sandwich and salad counter with a pretty large, almost reasonably priced menu. Everyone has their favorites here--I love the chocolate caramel brownies and the red pepper dip. The cheese selection is particularly good as well. One of the best things about this place, however, is that they usually have crazy amounts of free samples hanging out on the counters, and they don't mind people just coming in and grazing. Although, once you try their addictive sweets you might just have to buy something...

This store has been in Glencoe for over 20 years, and now there are locations in Evanston, Lake Forest, Glenview and Highland Park. I believe the Glencoe location is the original.
The weekly menu for all the locations is the same and can be found on their website, which is nice. They have excellent dips, a wide variety of cheeses and breads, excellent quiche, good chocolate chip cookies, pates and some excellent desserts such as Boston Cream Cake, lemon meringue pie, the chocolate chip cookie cake is good initially but actually a bit too sweet, the brownies are very rich but just okay, Jay's pecan tart is excellent but seems to be offered only once or twice a year. I check once a week for desserts, and they always offer what seems like at least 7 new ones a day, but I rarely find one that I want, which would be limited to the ones listed above. However, it is nice to be able to check the weekly menu so you don't waste time going there when they don't have something you want.
