Carolyn's Food Mart is a staple here in downtown Springfield. Food Mart is where you go for fresh baked asiago cheese bread from The Hill in St. Louis, for fresh stuffed pasta shells, for pasta sauces, for canolli shells, for Lindt chocolates, for local and international wines (as cheap as $2.99!). For coffees and teas and all sorts of items you might not find at Schnucks or Jewel. Better yet, though, Food Mart serves breakfast sandwiches and coffee as well as soups and sandwiches at lunch. They run several daily lunch specials each day all very affordable. The sandwiches are all made fresh after you order them. The soups are made from scratch each morning. They offer all sorts of chips (specialty and classic, baked and fried), salads and sodas/juices (not many other places can I get a diet cherry coke with my lunch). It locally owned and operated. It's frequented by young people who live downtown, IL Supreme Court Justices, IL legislators, local families, and visitors. It's a fantastic place that we are proud to have here in downtown SPringfield. It's about 3 or four blocks from the ALP Library and Museum and would be worth the walk. Limited inside and outside seating is available. If you have a group you might not want to go between noon and 1:00pm if you're wanting to eat there.
