I would seriously think twice about taking your dog here. The "vet" prescribed our dog both steroids and anti-biotics at the same. Then compounded the problem by not checking to see what kind of infection it was. Flash forward over a year of consistently poor care later we found another vet that took the time to make sure the diagnosis was correct. The final straw for us was the lack the professionalism and extortion tactics we encountered while getting our dogs nails trimmed yesterday. Not only did they cut into the quick, and not just nicking it thank you, they brought him out without trimming all his nails when we pointed that out we ended up dealing with excuses about why they couldn't until they finally finished. It wasn't until they came back the second time that they told us about cutting the quick. Then they promptly proceeded to tell us that if we wanted "better" service we should bring our dog in once a week. Lastly, when asked about what we should do about the quick they replied he's fine he looks happy. The nail was still bleeding over an hour later.
Vet work is expensive anywhere but just make sure your getting your money worth. I would definitely think 3 or 4X's before bringing my dog there again.

I'm genuinely shocked by the negative reviews. We have taken our three dogs to VCA for years, and seen several different doctors during that time. No matter who we see, the vets and staff have always been gentle with our dogs, conscientious about their care, and attentive to our many needs as worrywart dog owners. They have also never failed to accommodate us when we have had an emergency, real or imagined. As for the premises, I'm not saying I would eat off the floor (there are a lot of animals there, after all), but it is appropriately clean -- not at all filthy and/or smelly as someone suggested. As for price, there are certainly cheaper vets, but you get what you pay for.

We've been taking our pets to Dr. Diaz for over 11 years and feel he's the best. He's kind, gentle and very compassionate, always going above and beyond.
In addition, the staff is fantastic. They're friendly, caring, and always very professional, adapting to every situation. In conjunction with the Dr. Diaz and the other vets (who I've seen occasionally and are also wonderful), they help make the 'vet experience' go as smoothly as possible. Depending on the situation, they can actually make it fun with their great personalities. This is the first internet review/recommendation I've ever written but felt Dr. Diaz and the entire staff should get the praise they deserve. If you're looking for a new Vet facility, you just found it.

I have been going to VCA on Chicago ave, for the last 8 years. Dr. Diaz has been our Doctor. We have never had a better care for our pets, and this has not been the only vet I have been in Chicago. Dr. Diaz is compassionate, caring and very well informed. Our dogs love going to him and you can tell he loves animals. I know that when I take my dogs to Dr, Diaz and the staff at VCA Chicago Ave. that my pets will be well taken care for and mostly loved. I wish I had met Dr. Diaz and the staff at VCA much earlier and maybe all my dogs would have had the same care and compassion that my current dogs have had.

Dr. David Diaz at VCA Lake Shore Animal Hospital has saved my dog's life twice. He is knowledgeable, loving, and accessible, He is conservative about tests and treatment and reviews options so that my dog gets good , cost-efficient care. VCA Lake Shore is clean, efficient and well organized. My dog gets better care from their caring competent staff than I get from my family doctor. I would never go anywhere else.

We've been taking our cats here for about 22 years and have never been disappointed. Even Halsted, our most fierce cat, finds the staff trustworthy. He's gone there for all seven years of his life.
PROS: They know a lot and are kind.
CONS: None

I came here with a coupon for a free exam for new customers. The Dr. was completely short, in and out. Acted like he had somewhere else to be. I was told when I left that the coupon covered the visit, then a month later I received a bill in the mail. All they can say is their employees are excellent and don't know how this could have happened. They are only about making money, and it's terrible.
Pros: NONE

First time dog owner. This vet is less than a mile from my new apt. Driving any further would just add cost, therefore I pay for the convenience. I have never had a bad experience here. Dr. B was a very good listener and answered all my stupid questions making me feel very comfortable. While the cost does burn a hole through my pocket, I can't expect a pet to be cheap. I would rather take my puppy to a reputable company than a sleazy one where he may leave sicker than he came. I wouldn't recommend getting your pet fixed anywhere other than the Anti-Cruelty society though - I paid $35 for neutering and micro-chipping - they do hundreds a week so you know they have the experience and you can't beat the price.
I would recommend VCA on Chicago Avenue to those who can afford to pay for good care.
Side note: If you assume the secretaries will be able to give the same care as the licensed, educated doctors you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Pros: Dr. B was a very good listener and answered ALL my questions
Cons: the "city" price tag is steep, but the doctor made it worth it

This place is OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Don't waste your hard-earned money here. The office visits are over $60 which is double of some other places. A $20 shot for my cat cost $70 because of a $50 "exam" which consisted of listening to the heart and looking in the eyes and ears. AND the cat had been examined there only 2 weeks before. Find a vet that has reasonable prices.
Pros: none
Cons: espensive

I am a first time dog owner and this place is within walking distance to my house so I thought it would be perfect. For the first 6 months that I took my puppy there, I thought the prices were slightly unreasonable, but then I decided, she must be getting very good care so we stayed with this vet. After my dog got spayed there, she has had many complications and it has cost us over a thousand dollars to deal with my dog's issues. I strongly believe that these people just want to rake money from their unsuspecting customers and when you confront them or question their diagnosis they are rude and in unconcerned. Do Not Take Your Pet Here!!
Pros: office staff friendly
Cons: smelly, expensive, uncaring veteranarians

don't bother the place is smelly and filthy
they will do there best to make your bill high for no apparent reason, they will give you all of these diagnosis for your pet but your pet is perfectly healthy ;(

Really pricey. There are a lot of other great vets in this area who charge reasonable prices. No need to be gauged here. Also, anytime I left my dog for boarding, I never got all my stuff back. They always lost my dog's toys or food or both.
Pros: nice office staff, clean
Cons: parking, excessively expensive

They seem quick to treat, which makes you wonder if they're pushing serivces to run up your bill. They recommended pricey surgery for my dog's bladder stone (they charged $ 450 just to diagnose it). I opted out and went to another vet. They treated her with antibiotics and the stone went away. Never even needed the surgery.
They also like to push extras on you like toothpaste for your dog, leashes, etc. Staff is nice, but doctors are pushy. Watch your wallet.
Pros: parking, admin staff, hours
Cons: expensive, pushy doctors
