I got so sick after eating at this establishment. Now I understand why no one was there when I came in. They were probably all at home sick, just like I was for the next day. Just say No to La Gondola and their bad food and horrible

My husband and I went here on a Friday night. We didn't realize that this place only had 6 tables. When we went inside at 7:00 there was one table by the door. It was one of those tables that shouldn't have even been there because it was freezing outside and you would have been cold the whole time you were there. We went to the host and asked what they had availble. They said they had that table availble, but that we we would have to be done in an hour and twenty minutes. Seriously? I am going to pay and you are going to put a time limit on it. I asked when they would have any thing else open and they said 10:00, so I took my business elsewhere. The kicker is that I wrote a negative review on a different site and the owner wrote back and personally attacked me by saying "I'm not going to argu with you, you and I both know what kind of people you and your husband are, your best friend will always be the angry and sad person in the mirror every morning, I hope you and your silent husband are happy at Waffle House". I am sorry, but that is no way to win customers. This place is not open to feedback and the owner definitely needs a customer service 1010 class.

This resturant is my favorite "find" in the city, I stumbled on the resturant when my car battery died while I was in the grocery store. I have never had a bad meal and the service is always top notch! The Lasagna is a personal favorite of mine. The chef is always willing to make any dish exactly to your liking. In my experience this resturant is the best value in the city - the portions are large and the prices are unbeatable. I highly recommend this resturant!

Very good italian and pizza, the service is great as well, only a few tables in this place so call ahead for reservations, the majority of there business is take-out and delivery but can take a long time as we found out last winter, but the food is second to none and worth the wait.

I have ordered from this place many times hoping it gets better... it hasn't. Calamari- heavily breaded and soggy. Gnocchi- very dense, not at all like true gnocchi are supposed to be. It was in a heavy cream sauce. Disgusting. Bruschetta was good. Wouldn't recommend to others. There are many other Italian restaurants to choose from that are actually authentic and good.

having been a long standing customer and general advocate of la gondola, I write this review with a heavy heart... while I understand and expect some variation in consistency at a given restaurant, recently I've developed the distinct impression that somehow the business end of things is slowly starting to usurp the very quality experience I had once praised la gondola for.

bottom line: I reluctantly downgrade my rating to average, a place one year ago I would have awarded highest marks (for the category)

let us not forget about that which is most important: the food & customer satisfaction

There really isn't any words to decribe the "awesomeness" of the food at La Gondola. It really speaks for itself. The aroma of the dishes just makes your mouth water. I enjoy all the hospitality when dinning in. i think it really says something about a place when during your dinner or after your meal the owner Andy comes out from the back and visits with you. What a great guy, he might talk a lot but it adds to the flavor of the place. The pizza here is probably some of the best in the area that i have found. Not too many toppings but more than you pay for, and cooked perfectly. If you ever get the chance to dine-in, please try the seafood ciappino. OMG! Just the presentation alone leaves you speechless. I reccomend La Gondola to everybody. At least once, but i know from experience you can't go just once.

Cons: need a bigger place!

Having ordered from La Gondola in the past, we know that they are slow to deliver. READ: more than an hour every time for the last 6+ orders. With our order tonight however, we were disappointed to see that the $16 Salmon dish was way too dry to eat. When I called the manager (Brandon) to ask for a refund, they declined and said the food was fine when it left the restaurant. Well, then it must have been Chef Andy with the Knife in the Kitchen that ruined my meal! What a dumb thing to say... For the prices that they are charging, an edible meal is the least one could ask for.

Well, La Gondola has once again delivered a fantastic meal to my house while we entertained several guests from out of town, not only did the food come in just over an hour, we were even surprized they would deliver tonight, 7 inches of snow and 40 MPH winds, they said sorry in advance and delivery might be 1.5 to 2 hours, it was delivered hot in 70 minutes, our guests were also impressed with delivery time and commented on how this is some of the best Italian they ever had (and they're from N.Y.) had the margherita (mar?) pizza for starters, and several entrees including the house specialty, Rigatoni Boscaiola (Yum!) Eggplant Parm. (1 of our guests had) and Loved, and Tilapia Livornase, white fish in the house Tomato Sauce with Caper, Olives and a side of Pasta, never had Fish with Tomato Sauce but it was great, and of course my wife had the Stuffed Gnocchi with creamed Pesto, she can't go a week without :) Service has always been top notch, Phone Personel to Delivery Drivers always polite and professional, and the service is even better in the dining room, although they only have 6 tables and it's hard getting one on weekends, but they do accept reservations, kepp in mind that delivery takes a little bit longer then most other restaurants, but the quality of food you receive takes time to prepare, so don't order if your in a hurry that's what Papa John's is for.

Pros: tasty food made to order from scratch.

Cons: small dining room, need to expand.

Do NOT let looks deceive you: This is the best traditional Italian food in Chicago. You would never expect a restaurant in a strip-mall to be this good. The friendly atmosphere and ambiance are pleasantly surprising, and the food is even better. If you are looking for a Pizza delivery, there is no better thin-crust Pizza in town. Order it in, too!

If you don't see your favorite dish on the menu, then just ask! The menu is a "guideline", so tell them your favorite combination of pasta and sauce. The eggplant parmesan is out of this world! So is every Veal and Chicken dish (the Marsala is a consistent, not-too-sweet delicacy), and don't forget to look at their specials. (I adore the Cioppino.) This place only uses the freshest ingredients. There are no shortcuts taken here.

Go here before more people discover this place! (You won't be sorry.) It is rumored that R.R. of the Food Network has frequented this establishment, and it will be featured on her show in the near future (if it has not already aired). Do you need a better recommendation than Rachael??? With the limited dining space, it is sometimes difficult to get a table on Fridays and Saturdays. The dining room is too small, so if you cannot get a table...take something to go, because it is well worth the trip no matter how busy they are. Take-out some pasta or protein, and this food could pass for a home-cooked Italian masterpiece. No kidding!

Their wine list is improving since the new owner has taken over. The same Chef and servers have continued to deliver great Italian food at a very reasonable price.

Can you tell? I LOVE this place!!! They just need a bigger dining room. I almost hesitated to write this review, because I fear the day people discover this place and I won't be able to get a table. I have been hesitating for the past several months, but here it is. This is Italian comfort food at its best!

Ciao!

Pros: La Gondola special Pizza, and every pasta or veal dish is something to be savored!

Cons: Dining room is too small for the "following" this place deserves.

La Gondola brings me back to when I was a kid, you would not believe the size of the menu here, seeing it's in a "strip mall" a friend first recommended them to me, so we tried it for carry out one night durring the week, the place was packed on a Tuesday, the majority of their business is carry-out as they only have 6 tables, but the dining room is very cozy and the service is great, so many Items I could recommend but it would take forever, they have Pasta, Seafood, Pizza, Chicken and mouth watering Veal you cut with a fork, the portions are huge and everything is made to order from scratch, try it once and you too will be hooked, not the biggest or best wine selection, mostly Italian labels, but hey have a rum and coke as I did, check out there website, it's a very good site with there entire menu, history and reviews from all major papers including Zagat, the waitress "Tatiana" also told us they were being featured on Rachel Rays Tasty Travels in the end of February, not surprising to me, hope they don't get to busy, it's hard enough getting a table.
BTW, ask for the carry out menu if dining in, the dine in menu does not do it justice, I think they keep it short and sweet because the room is so small. the prices are from the 90's too, very cool.

Pros: best mussels and calamari in the City

Cons: small dining room, but warm.

What a treat! I first found La Gondola when I was enjoying fantastic pizza at a neighbor?s party. I flipped the box top over and recognized the name from the mall by Jewel on Ashland. From that pizza on, I have enjoyed and shared several flawless La Gondola thin crunchy crust pizzas.

It was the terrific dine in experience that brought me to write my very first recommendation ever! I read tons of them, but this time I was so pleasantly surprised I wanted to tell someone. The portions are generous and of great flavor. I had the Vodka Rigatoni and ordered it again a week later because I was craving the tangy sauce. I went back again recently with good friends, and we all raved of best Calamari! I also enjoyed the most wonderful mussels, and a great bottle of wine. I wanted to write a review to thank the staff and let them know I really enjoyed my experience. Thanks! I think this little restaurant has a big flavor! My new neighborhood fav!

I'm from Kansas City but visit Chicago often. I love to eat at La Gondola - the food is fabulous and the service is wonderful. On my last trip I tried the mussels and veal - both melted in your mouth, perfectly seasoned. Their pizza is also delicious as is the calamari. Each trip I try something new and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is small but it gives you the feeling of eating at home with friends. Andy and his staff treat you like family. Make this restaurant a new destination in a city known for great food - you won't be disapppointed! A definite thumbs up!

We just enjoyed a out of this world Italian tasting featuring Andy's favorite dishes and wonderful wines. Everything not only looked ready to be photographed for a cookbook, but each dish was prepared to perfection. We enoyed salad, antipasta platter, calamari, mussels, veal, swordfish, margherite pizza...so much wonderful food to taste and great wine to accompany each dish.

Chef Andy, Lenny, and Tatina make up the perfect cast for this intimate Italian restaurant setting. We've never been disappointed here.

When you show up at the door, you would have never guessed how great it is inside. In the past, I always had the food delivered. It is reasonably priced and such great food. The other night, however, I decided to eat inside. The atmosphere is cozy and peaceful. We sat there drinking our wine long after we were finished with our meal. The staff is very friendly and professional. I knew I was going to get wonderful food, but it was a pleasant surprise to have such a great overall experience.

La Gondola has been feeding me and my family for almost 10 years now,the pizza and seafood are always great, the service from Andy and Dominic are great as well, the dining area could use a makeover, but the service and food make you forget the dining area is so small (only 6 tables) dont forget the pasta,(rigatoni) boscaiola my fav. ask for aldente', the chicken parm.is the bigest and best you'll ever see, fast delivery as well,takeout..plenty of parking in a area where it's @ a premium, overall I would recommend them to anyone,I compare the food to carmines(my fav.italian) only cheaper and not as fancy in the dining area.

This classic Italian spot has earned its longtime following, and we can see why. Casually elegant, the small restaurant carries pleasantries over to its food---and you can't beat the prices. We rarely dine here without ordering the mussels…
