The owner Dante is a fraud and scam artist

BE VERY afraid to join this gym.

The trainers are good, but they will over charge you and refuse to help or refund you. They will bill you even if you cancel.

The owner Dante Pena has a terrible reputation in Chicago for scams, charging people who do not want to be enrolled and not canceling when people ask to do so.

It says a lot when virtually the entire staff walks out, and starts their own

I have trained at a few different martial arts schools over the years, and UMA is definitely one of the best. They have a variety of classes including Krav Maga (L1 to L3), TRX, Kickboxing (fitness), Boxing, BJJ, and TKD. I've been taking Krav classes there for the last few months and can say that the instructors there are very knowledgeable and really care about their students.

Krav is great for getting in shape quickly -- classes are physically (and mentally!) challenging. We do drills that come as close as possible to simulating real-world scenarios. The instructors also slow things down and teach techniques from the very beginning for people who aren't as experienced. The great thing about Krav (and UMA) is that you don't have to have any previous martial arts experience, or even be in great shape, to get started. Each class has people with a wide range of experience levels, and all of them get something out of it.

What distinguishes one school from another, in my opinion, is the quality of instructors. At UMA, the instructors are top-notch and come from many different martial arts backgrounds, so a class with one instructor isn't the same as a class with another, making every class unique and interesting. If you've ever had an interest in self-defense or just want to get in shape, I'd strongly recommend going for a trial class!

This school provides good instruction, certainly. However, I was scammed by the school. They charged me 4 months instead of the 3 I signed up for. I have spent the past month seeking remedy, and the school has so far refused to refund the money rightly owed to me. They are discourteous, and downright rude, on the phone. I contacted the school once to discuss the issue, they now refuse to answer my calls or return my messages.

The school scammed me, and appears to be trying anything possible to keep my money. I will seek legal action if the problem is not remedied.

Please, do not go to this school. Do not be another victim.

Ultimate martial arts is a really nice place to get some martial arts instruction. They have a really great facility; its huge and has lots of great instructors. They do great training here and its a great place to start learning. You can go as far as you like -- either you can just learn some simple self defense or you can go all out and get a black belt!
