I volunteered here for 5 years. I know how it is. Its soo dirty and I had to buy tons of supplies because food was simply not there. I thought this was how all shelters were until I volunteered at a humane one. this is a slow-kill, not

Cons: Dirty, almost no staff or volunteers

Too bad we can't give ZERO stars.

Do NOT abandon or relinquish animals to this organization. FOX News recently reported on filthy, horrendous conditions at this shelter and the astonishing failure of the Illinois Department of Agriculture -- the state organization with oversight of animal shelters -- to do anything about it.

Any visitor immediately notices that dogs and cats are housed together, which is against the first principle of running a good shelter. This sets up a very stressful environment for the cats and dogs. Stress leads to illness.

According to countless former volunteers for the past 30 years, animals are denied even basic veterinary care; dogs are forced to live in cramped crates, in their own waste, without ever seeing the light of day. As was reported by FOX News, animals are allowed to die in agony, rather than be humanely euthanized. Volunteers that advocate for the animals are fired.

This is no animal shelter. This is an animal hoarder's den.

Please adopt as many pets as possible from Pet Rescue, getting pets out of there is a great thing. There are many wonderful pets there just waiting for a home.

Just do not bring a pet to them for any reason.

I have adopted 2 cats in the past from this shelter. When you walk in your heart drops as you see many cages full of cats (mostly) and dogs that need a home. They look at you lik "take me! take me!"
It is fairly clean for an animal shelter, and I was there in the winter and impressed that it was warm inside. There is a whole back room that house about 100 more cats, all of whom seem very sweet and loving. Alot of them are curled up sleeping, while some of them surround you and try and charm their way into your heart. It is overwhelming to know which one to pick, but the volunteers there know their names, and can tell you about their personalities. They allow you time to play with the cats (as much time as you would like) and check back with you frequently to see if you need any help. They are very helpful both over the phone and in person with any questions you many have, and I strongly reccomend going there if you are considering adopting a new pet. The cats in the back room have a donation fee of $100 to adopt, while the animals in the front are a bit more money, I think this is because they have not been there that long.

This is a great place for animal lovers. This is an animal shelter that rescues pets from dangerous situations and provides them with a home until they find a permanent home. My friend got her dog from this place and it is a great place to go if you are looking to purchase a pet for a small amount of money. They give all dogs their needed shots so you don't have to worry about that.

Pet Rescue is a no kill shelter, so I like to support them when I can. I try to recommend everyone to adopt from them. They seem to treat their animals well and the volunteers who staff the place are very nice and seem really concerned about the welfare of the animals.
