When it comes to affordability and customer service, this probably has an edge above other pizza chains. The place is also clean, which is a plus factor.

OMG Lou Malnati's Pizzeria has got the best pizzas. The people who work there are so nice and it makes me proud to call this neighborhood my home. This is my catching up spot with my friends when there is nothing to do.
The people are very down to earth and this pizzeria practically symbolizes what I think chicago is all about. I'm totally willing to pay more for pizza at local pizzerias rather than getting those offers for $5 pizzas at Dominos/ Papa John's. Why get pizzas from chains if you can get the authentic stuff

Good food and even better service. Food was delicious and worth the extra coin they charge for it. I like the good variety of chicken dishes with pasta. The service is always wonderful and the prices are very reasonable. Great place to stop over and have a great home cooking meal.

This pizzeria is by far the best in Chicago. The tomatoes are fresh, the calamari is fried to perfection. The wait time is super long, but totally worth the wait. I order for pick up after waiting over one hour!!

I work relatively close to Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, and if I could eat there everyday, I would. I especially go there for the dish deep pizza - I can't get enough. Anyone looking for delicious food at a great price should head to Lou's Pizzeria.

We ordered a large deep dish, and I have to tell you that I have been horrible disappointed lately with Chicago Pizza. Somebody recommended this place and I was not happy. First, I noticed there was hardly any sauce and i asked for an extra order. What she brought was a bowl of tomatoes from a can. No seasoning, no garlic, and I was like Miss you just brought me some whole tomatoes from a can. She responds "that is what we use for the sauce". It taste like it. If you like spicy, well seasoned food this is not the place for you. If Salt and pepper is the only thing you might put on your food, you still might find this place bland. There has to be a better place in town for pizza then here!!! For your sake look elsewhere.

honestly, Chicago pizza is better in Berkley CA than here. Terrible veggies, i swear they came from a frozen veggies bag. Line was forever, the dessert tho was good. So we tipped 20% for the portion that we enjoyed, the $5 cookie.

Give it a miss, it sucked, not at all worth it. Zachary's in Berkley, THATS WORTH IT! Good quality ingredients are always a good start. I would have been happier with domino's than Lou's. But I loved when my lady told the waiter "Its not Lou Maldani's, its Digiorno!" Best line ever!

We have enjoyed Lou Malnati's pizza from the Lincolnwood restaurant for many years. We had noticed over the last year that both the deep dish pepperoni and the thin crust deluxe - what we normally order - were not near as tasty as in the past. However, last evening we ordered both for delivery. The sausage on the thin crust deluxe was so non-existant that my husband thought I had ordered a vegetarian pizza. The little bit of sausage that we did manage to find was tasteless. The deep dish pepperoni was awful - the crust was not good at all, the sauce non-descript and pepperoni was disgusting. And even though, at my daughter's wishing, we had ordered extra cheese, there wasn't near the amount that there used to be. What has happened over the last few years for Lou's pizza to go from really good to so awful? Were they jinxed by an appearance on the Food Network channel? After 25 years, we will never go there again or order for delivery.

This is by far the best deep dish in Chicago! Yes, it takes a long time to cook, and is a little pricey, but well worth the buck and the wait. When I moved to Florida for a few years, I always had Lou Malnati's shipped to me from Chicago because it's my fav! Try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed. YUMMY!

We started the evening with a lovely hour long wait for a table. Admittedly, it was Saturday night so that by itself is not unexpected. We went to the bar and were blown away by their extensive beer listing - all 8 of them, all lagers.

When we were finally seated, our waiter kindly took 30 minutes between checks for drinks.

The 'deluxe pan' was garbage and the thin crust cheese was even worse. They use the same crust for thin crust as they do for pan, which makes the thin crust over risen and dry like a cracker. Both crusts were super bland as were both pizzas in general.

It then took 30 minutes for us to get our check...

Don't waste your time. We also went to Pequod's earlier and it was the same thing.

Chicago just can't do pizza. If you are a fan of New York or even west coast style pizza, you're going to be disappointed. Don't bother.

This is a great place for people that live in the neighborhood.

If you can walk here, you will LOVE the place!!!!

But the down side is that I live a few miles away and have to pick up my order and when I do, there is never any parking out front so you can run in and pay.

If they were to have a "Curbside Pick-Up" it would make all the difference in the world!

They, like all other 'Chicago style pizza' places, charge a LOT for their food but it is worth it... Their pizza is wonderful and their salads are fresh and, most importantly, WATER FREE... (Here in Chicago, we have a problem with there being a LOT of water at the bottom of carry out Salads.) oh, and they even have garlic dressing!

I love this place and will come here again and again.

My husband and I had heard how great the pizza was at Lou's, we were told we "just had to try it" before we left Chicago. We had tried the pizza at Giordano's two nights before and were completely blown away- it was THAT fabulous! So, we headed over to Lou's where waitress took forever to get us anything. She kept saying she'd check back with us- I finally said- "I know what I want to drink and you can take our order too". Yes, three passes by the table and we had to demand she take our drink order. Asked for extra napkins, waited, asked again (never did get them). We wanted to order an additional pizza to take home with us- and our waitress literally disappeared, my husband approached a woman by the bar to request to order our "take home" pizza, and was told "oh your server can handle that for you" to which he replied "uh, yeah, haven't seen her" I think they've gotten too egotistical and have let their service go downhill. Next time I'll just go back to Giordanos.

My wife and I went to Lou Malnati's to sample the deep dish pizza because we heard it was one of the best (if not the best) in Chicago. Just as a bit of background I lived in Manhattan for 6 years and am a fan of NY style pizza but not so much that I would dismiss other types (and let??s be honest, Chicago and NY pizza are too completely different dishes). That said we were excited to try this ??great? pizza and we were very disappointed. The tomato sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can with no added herbs or spices for flavor, the sausage may as well not have been there and the cheese was possibly the cheapest that the restaurant could find with no regard for quality. I have to say though, the butter crust was really good. For all you Chicago locals reading this, if you ever get a chance to eat at Grimaldi??s in Brooklyn, NY you will get a lesson in what award winning, world renowned pizza should taste like (or even try a papa John??s because they take care to make sure one of the ingredients they add is taste). Bottom line, fresh ingredients = good food, Lou Malnati??s = cheap ingredients & over rated food.

I hadn't had Lou's in a few years and had remembered it being quite good, so I picked up a deep dish from the Northbrook Lou's tonight. Without being overly dramatic, this is probably the worst pizza experience I've ever had considering expectation/price and the awful quality of the pizza.

The crust on the bottom was totally soggy, and the crust around the edges was totally greasy and the consistency of stale corn bread or else something like polenta. By this wierd, distubing texture, I could tell that even if the crust on the bottom had *not* gotten soggy due to the toppings it still would've been off. I'm aware that sometimes the crust gets soggy due to the ingredients (mostly veggies 'perspiring') but it wasn't just that. It's as if they forgot to add yeast to their dough or something...or maybe they didn't knead the dough enough. I'm not sure, but *something* happened (or didn't happen), but there was something obviously very wrong with this crust.

Aside from the crust, the sausage, the sauce and almost everything about the pizza was awful. It was just so bad that I *had* to call back to let them know--I wasn't even concerned about getting my money back. They advised me to order the pizza 'well done' next time, and to ask for it 'uncut,' and seemed to think that the pizza was normal and i was just being difficult.

That said, they were polite enough, and told me that I could get another one made or credit back for next time. I opted for the latter, and they took my address down, so presumably I'll get a coupon or something (although I thought this to be wierd...I would've thought the credit would jjust be in the database under my name) . I'll give it another try to use up my credit and see if this was a one time error on their part. It was just really surprisingly, astonishingly bad.

Lou's pizza never disappoints me. The pizza is consistently delicious. The wait staff is friendly. I give Lou's a big thumbs up. I wish I would have discovered this pizza earlier. I have never been to the restaurant but on a recommendation from my doorman shortly after moving here for the "Best Pizza" in the city I took a shot. The pizza here is AWESOME!!!

I have ordered from here many times (always the deep dish) and the pizza is great to reheat as 2-3 slices is more than enough for a meal. I'd recommend the pepperoni, sausage and green peppers for a truly awesome meal!!

Atmosphere: the place is what you can expect from a chain restaurant... kitch on the walls. Oddly, there was a pair of LA Lakers shorts framed on the wall... why not Bulls?

Food: The pizza comes in thin and deep dish, but not traditional Chicago stuffed. My wife and I had a medium "the Lou" pizza which was good, but by the time i took my second slice, the bottom of the pizza was soggy! The pizza did have a great taste and good combination of flavors (romano cheese, spinach, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes). The deep dish is 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness of a typical Chicago style stuffed pizza. The crust is not as thick and the sauce is underneath the cheese, unlike a traditional Chicago pizza where the cheese and ingredients are covered by sauce...

Service: The restaurant was very busy, but that doesn't justify our waiter being so rushed he would start walking away before he finished speaking... On the plus side, he got better as the meal went on.

Overall, good pizza and a worthwhile departure from other chains like Geno's, Uno's, Giordano's, Pizano's, etc. However, I will say that if I have family/friends visiting from out of town who want to have "famous chicago style pizza", I will always take them to Giordano's... pizza is consistently awesome there, and across locations so you can be sure to have great food.

Lou Malnati's was the first pizzeria where I tried Deep Dish pizza , and is the best I've ever had. We often times will order a pizza for pick up on the way home from work, since we do not live near a Lou Malnati's.

On a recent Chicago trip this proved to be the best deep dish. The sauce was outstanding and the crust was nice and buttery. Their lunch deal is great. $6.95 for a huge drink, personal pizza and a side salad. Fills you up! Give it a try and you won't be sorry.

I'm a big fan of Lou Malnati's pizza. They use more tomato sauce (or whatever it is) in their pizzas which I like, and I really enjoy the seasoning. I've also had pretty good experiences with service.

Not the best pizza in Chicago, but still pretty good. I would recommend this place, at least to try... I wasn't disappointed. I guess if you follow hype, then you may be disappointed, but like I said, it was good.

Pros: pizza, and SPINACH BREAD

Cons: nothing

Sure, it's downtown and convenient for a quick lunch -- just blocks from the Loop, but this location of Lou's is pretty small and cramped. The pizza is great, though. My fave Lou's is the one up north in Lincolnwood.

This is the best za' in the known universe. And everyone who knows me knows I am not prone to exaggeration! You should also know that I am not even a pan crust pizza fan but this is the exception. I grew up with Lou's and enjoyed both the Wells St. establishment as well as the lovely Lincolnwood restaurant. In fact the Lincolnwood location was quite the spot for us back in the old days when I was in college. His pies are literally oozing with cheeze and toppings. You will not, I repeat, will not find this anywhere else. The tomatoes are real, not canned runny stuff, and the service is great. Please read what the New Yorker said about rushing your pizza and take this good advice. Patience my friends! Enjoy a cocktail and salad and let your pizza do it's thing. You will be thankful for an incredible pie with perfect crust. Did you know that Lou's makes care packages for those of us who are no longer in the city? Yes, it's like having mama sending us goody boxes! Visit their website for more info.

Pros: very high quality ingredients, no skimping, great atmosphere friendly staff

Cons: none

We got to Lou's whenever we are in Chicago and get it Fed-Ex'd a couple of times a year. It is the best! Nothing in California compares (and I'm from here). The butter crust just melts in your mouth. The cheese is warm and plentiful and those hand-picked California tomatoes... ahh! I get pepperoni and my husband gets sausage - we each get a small so we can have leftovers later. There is always a wait, but it is never too long and the hostess will take your order so the pizza is ready when you get a table. Also try the spinach/cheese bread - to die for. My in-laws used to go to another restaurant for their annual gathering but once we took them here, they switched! Do not miss Lou's when you are in Chicago.

Pros: Great pizza, fast service, Parking garage right down the street

Was just in Chicago and had to stop off and enjoy Lou's again. Once again it didn't disappoint. Nice piled on sauce and toppings and the buttery crust makes for a full meal of it's own. As for the recent negative reviews, I suggest people page back and look at the 12/30/06 review. It appears we have someone with sour grapes or a grudge or something writing reviews.

Pros: Obviously the pizza.

Cons: Service staff was not quick today. I'd like a Lou's to open with a better atmosphere than the usual.

I dont know about the reviewer who had the soggy crust, that doessnt sound like Lou's pizza but I guess mistakes do happen. I have never had a soggy crust-the crust is buttery and crispy, when I eat there .GOD's crust.
I was a Due's lover for years until they sold out and now the crust tastes like Pillsbury. The only thing i would change about Lou's pizza is to use Due's old tomato sauce recipe (richer flavor) instead of the whole tomatoes tend to be more watered down and flavor is less rich.
However, this is the BEST deep dish Chicago pizza in Chicago. Not Ccnnies, not Dues, not Ginos.

I completely agree with Jamaal23's comments. I tried Lou's for the first time today and it was disgusting - the crust was SOGGY. I ordered the Lou and it was the most flavorless pizza I've ever had, and the soggy crust made it un-palatable. I only ordered a personal size and ended up throwing the second half out...45 mins later and I still feel "blah." I honestly don't understand the hype. Maybe I ordered the wrong type of pizza but seeing as how I don't eat sausage or pepperoni, I can only assume I'm S-O-L when it comes to Lou's.

Did I say "Yuck!"??? So gross...

Pros: the woman who greeted me at the door was nice and polite

Cons: The deep dish "Lou" was absolutely disgusting.

Take a look through the reviews --- without exception the older reviews are 4 or 5 stars. It looks like a coordinated anti-Lous campaign has dominated the last month or so and I have no idea why! Having grown up in NY, I had no idea that pizza could be a filling meal, and a gourmet one, until I came to Chicago and had Lou's. The pizza is phenomenal.

Two insider tips : if you get the salad, request their house dressing. It is spectacular, but so popular you have to request it. Also, pre-order by phone and tell them not to rush it --- the complaints of "soggy" come about when a customer shows up and makes them rush it. This works in NY where rushing the pizza means only the difference between a perfect slightly blackened crust and done, but for Lou's this rude rushing means the difference between perfect and soggy. So be patient and courteous and your pizza will be perfect. I blame the reviewers, since the only people I know who have complained have been impatient and vocal... a little courtesy in the Midwest goes a long way!

That being said, Lous is my favorite pizza, bar none. The deep-dish sausage is phenomenal.

Cons: You need to be patient or risk a rushed, soggy pizza
