Love Nic and his staff, they do great work. The color is perfect and I have difficult hair to work with. It is thick and unruly.

Nic does a great job highlighting my hair and his cuts are second to none. Kim's facial with energy healing is wonderful; it's a unique experience. The salon in general is well-designed, tastefully decorated - including the rotating original artwork - and staffed with warm, genial people. I've tried a lot of places for alot of services but I always come back here!

Nic has worked with my curly hair for years. First it was highlights and cut and now that I love my grey hair, it is easy to keep haircuts.
His wife, Kim, does the most gentle facials ever. If you have sensitive skin she treats you very carefully and yet keeps your eyebrows perfect and all blemishes are gone.
This dynamic couple run a wonderful shop where the other stylists that work are also great and the people walk out of J Andrews looking like a million bucks! They keep up with trends and you won't look dowdy when you leave.

Nic and team are by far the best in the business. Wonderful people, amazing color and cut and all performed on time, with a smile, great conversation and in a fun and funky atmosphere.
I left Chicag over a year ago and travel back to Chicago every 8 weeks for Nic and team. They are AWESOME!

I have been coming here for over 10 years through many hair phases and Nick has been my guru in hair exploration, consulting and helping me work out my preferences along the way. I feel like I am in expert hands when it comes to color, since he teaches this. And I appreciate the opportunity to have all my facial needs met as well with equal expertise by Kim. I can't imagine a better salon experience!

J. andrews can accommodate anyone. Im a woman of color in my early 20's and im super particular about my hair . I left j.andrews salon feeling great about my hair. I saw nicole ( who is a total sweetheart) . she did a great relaxer , haircut and blowout. my hair was smooth shiny and bouncy , and not weighed down with product ( a practice most salons get into the habit of doing with ethnic hair)and the haircut was exactly what i asked for ( coco chanel if she were the lead singer of a punk band :). she recommended great products for me and made sure to help me come up with a plan of attack for growing my hair out . i see her regularly for trims and blowouts and cant wait to see what she can do with my color!!

Forget Alyssa - she's nice and all, but Nic is MY MAN! I've been going to him since 1995 and he kindly told me that it was time for me to retire my perm. And thank God - I've never looked better since, I swear. Nic cuts and colors my hair and does a great job. I'm pretty picky/high maintenance, so the fact that Nic can a) cut and color my hair to my great satisfaction and b) put up with my high standard ridiculousness, says a lot for his expertise as well as his personality. Nic helped me through the "OMG it's time to color my ENTIRE head of hair due to grays" stage and my hair still looks very natural even though the color is all fake! He's very good at taking your hair lighter or darker, too, so it looks natural. I consider Nic and his wife Kim to be good friends and like family. I really look forward to my appts. at J. Andrews Salon because of this (plus they give you wine if you want it!), as well as seeing the other friendly/fun stylists there. Sorry, Alyssa, my loyalties lie with Nic....

My neighbor told me about this salon and her stylist Alyssa. I went for highlights and cut. I am very picky about my highlights because they can look "over done", but Alyssa spent about 10 minutes consulting with me about my like and dislikes. After it was all said and done my hair was perfect! I love the color and the cut was just the update that I needed. She even took the time to show me exactly how to style my hair. The salon was great and the stylist was even better!

I had my wedding hair and make up done here. I had the practice appointment, an extra high-lighting appointment and the wedding day with 2 bridesmaids and my sister who was 18 and not really into the salon thing. They we so nice to my sister, gave her things to read and a comfortable chair to sit in while she waited with us. They knew exactly what we were talking about when we described what we wanted with our hair ( I KNOW that you have had this problem). I had a very unusual hair style and it was perfect. People raved about my hair and make up the whole night.

If you're a guy - take note: Nic not only cuts hair expertly, he actually listens to what you have to say and tries very hard to work with what you've got. I've never left there once feeling as though I didn't look considerably better than when I came in the door - whether you want to keep your hair long or go for short, it will work out. The staff is routinely friendly and attentive to the needs of their customers. The atmosphere is calm and relatively relaxing, which can be a good thing if you're a bit wound up. An additional bonus - the music is relatively eclectic, which can be kind of fun - it's the only place in Chicago that I'm aware of that occasionally plays Herbert Groenemayer.

This salon is the place to be if you want to treat yourself and take a break from the fast pace of city life. Everyone is pleasant and friendly. Nick is an artist at hairstyling. The ambiance is soothing and includes original artwork on the walls (that is for sale!) The facial room is serene and fragrant. Kim makes me feel special.

I got my haircut here recently and left feeling underwhelmed. My hair looked fine, but it was nothing special for the amount I paid. My stylist was very nice and talkative, but I don't think I'll be back. Nothing to call home about.

I found this salon on Citysearch and gave it a try. It was a really good experience. The receptionist was nice enough but the actual cut and color were outstanding. On top of that my stylist Alisa was down to earth and friendly. I will continue to go back.
