Midlothian Music is quite a drive from where I live, but I always drive out when I need something for our musical family. Midlothian Music is this HUGE store filled with sheet music, instruments, and statues of famous composers. It really feels like a music store. All of the instruments for sale look shiny and new, even the used intruments have been tuned up for sale. Although, I do agree that some of their instruments (esp. new) are really expensive, however, you can still find a few good deals here and there, but you're always getting good quality. My daughter plays the violin, so we stop by every 6 months just to get it tuned because they are *THAT* good. They also offer lessons, but because of our distant location, we don't have any experience with this.

PROS: Lots of sheet music, beautiful, high quality instruments, friendly staff
CONS: Can be expensive, can be a long drive

I know many area musicians who have been frequenting Midlothian Music for their needs for many years, but personally I found them to be a bit pricey. An instrument I was interested in was nearly half the price somewhere else, and Midlothian admitted they couldn't compete with my other quote. They do have good staff for lessons, but for major purchases, I would go elsewhere.
