The prices in this store are decent, comparable to the prices at any Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore. If you buy "stock" for 30 dollars you can save 10% on all purchases, a great deal since you can sell the stock back. This is a great place to buy academic texts, as it caters to University of Chicago undergraduate and graduate students.

The first thing anyone who moves into the area should do is buy shares in the Seminary Co-op, which gets you a 10% discount on everything. In the maze of passages can be found pretty much any scholarly book of interest, as well as course books for the U of C. The staff are friendly and helpful, and can order anything for you as well. The bookstore publishes a catalog with great commentary on new and forthcoming books, as well. It may be both hot and crowded much of the time, but this is one of the greatest bookstores anyone will ever go into, for academic books.

The Seminary Coop is one of my favorite bookstores. You can walk through the maze of rows for hours while browsing books of a wide variety of subjects. They have rare books as well. Literary lovers will be in heaven in this place. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the Hyde Park area.

OH MY! That's the first thing that went through my mind when I first walked in. I am an avid book reader, I love books and this has become my new home for books. You just have to go to get the experience of it.

This bookstore is nothing short of incredible! Twisting passages are stacked floor to ceiling with books, and everywhere you look is another room or hallway that you never discovered before. The labyrinth of bookshelves adds to the atmosphere and makes it a place you want to spend hours in. The staff is friendly, and a reasonable membership fee allows you to save 10% in this and two other bookstores.

Hey this is a great place with a huge selection. It's not just for academics - at all. They have two stores both are in hyde park; however, combined it is the largest slection of fiction and non-fiction work known (okay maybe that is stretching it). However, the cool thing is it's a coop so you can be a member of the store and get discounts as well as earn a little money!

This is by far one of the best bookstores I have ever been to. You don't have to be a UC student to appreciate all the great titles they have here. It's great for finding esoteric books that the big chains don't carry. Improve your mind!

The Seminary Co-op is a Chicago institution. It has been rated as the best academic bookstore in the country. It is literally in a seminary - in the basement. The exposed pipes have spilt tennis balls covering the parts you might bang your head on. Room to move around is limited. None of that matters, though. They have truly the most amazing collection of academic books, particularly in the social sciences and humanities, that you will find anywhere. The bookstore is a series of little rooms at different levels. Don't be surprised, even after visiting many times, that you discover a place you've never seen before. If you are an academic at any level, this will become your new favorite place.
