I have had 2 events here. Both were executed perfectly. We had our daughter's wedding reception here, and our daughter is very particular, maybe like most brides. She and Karol worked great with one another and the event was MARVELOUS. All of the guests were very impressed with the facility and the food. I also had our 40 Yr. Class Reunion here, tons of comments about "the best ever" and "we should do it again here in 5 years".
It's all about the guests and how thing turn out. The facillty was prepped perfectly for both events. The dinner options were delicious and the portions were generous. We chose the "Open Bar" option and that service was excellent. As it happened, the St.L. Cardinals were playing a World Series game the night of our Reunion. I asked Bill Hatton if there was some way we could see the game. He made it happen with a projector on a large white wall of the hall. Totally appreciated by the guests.
Karol is direct and to the point, an attribute I really appreciate. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants a wonerful event, all prepped by GC Cuisine - we didn't do anything but show up - and guests that leave with a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction

I should have known from the lack of email communication from this place that it was a joke. All communication that was received by the owner was short cold and unprofessional. While trying to find a location for our wedding and reception I emailed Bill about setting up a time to tour the place. We decided on the time of 9:30. As my fiance and I showed up to view the place and there wasn't anyone there. The sign on the door said they didn't even open until 10am. We waited from 9:30-10:10 for someone to show up and still no sign of anyone. By reading other reviews and speaking with friends who have used this facility this isn't just a fluke! I'm just glad we found out how horrible of service they had before we got locked in. So if you're concidering this place and find the communication is short I'm sure you can expect the service to be that way as well. Read the other reviews for yourself.

I recently had my wedding and reception at Crystal Gardens. I cannot express how wonderful everything was!! My now-husband and I looked at a few other places in the area, but none made me smile ear-to-ear the way CG did when we walked into the facility. It was, and is, absolutely beautiful! On my first visit I had written close to 20 questions down, and Bill (who gave us the first tour) answered everything, even going on to give us more information than I ever imagined! I was sold right then and there.

While I will admit I was a little put-off the first time I met Carol, looking back I understand that she needed to keep the professional attitude during our first few visits, rather than be ??bubbly? and ??chatty? in order to keep everything on track and make sure she knew exactly what we wanted. Any time I had questions for her I was able to reach her through phone calls and emails, all of which were answered promptly and fully. About a month before the wedding, she seemed almost as excited as we were about everything! When planning the menu her eyes lit-up and went into perfect detail about the food offered, and was very patient with us while we decided what we wanted to do. We were never forced to make any decisions, but were offered great suggestions when we looked stumped.

The day of the wedding went off without a hitch! There was another event going on at the same time, but it never interfered with ours. We were even ahead of schedule (I haven??t been to many weddings ?? but that??s the first time I??ve ever experienced that)! The garden ceremony was absolutely beautiful! We couldn??t have asked for anything more. The decorations and landscaping were perfect. (Not that they could control this aspect, but the weather was amazing, too!)

After our ceremony was complete and the reception had begun, Bill was there for anything we needed ?? even asking if the room temperature was to our liking! If there was anything we wanted, he was right there to make sure it was done. I was beside myself at how beautifully the room was decorated. It was a perfect way to start our memories as a married couple. And the food, well, was simply fantastic! We selected the beef and chicken, and received numerous compliments from our guests. The set-up was very nice, and the staff was excellent! From the bar to the buffet they were all very professional and all had big smiles on their faces while interacting with our guests. It was beyond just good customer service ?? it was exemplary customer service!

When we came back a few days later to pick-up decorations we brought for the reception, Bill and Carol were still super nice and friendly. They had everything ready for us so we didn??t have to wait around for anything. If anyone were to ask me about having their wedding and/or reception at Crystal Gardens, I would say yes in a heartbeat! There are so many other wonderful aspects I could share about my experience, but then this would be a 10-page review, haha. I??ll leave on this note: If you are looking for an amazing place and staff to host your special day, please look at Crystal Garden. You will not regret it =)

We had our wedding & reception there in October 2011. Everything was great! Carol & Bill were awesome! In the beginning, I was very skeptical b/c I wanted my wedding day to go perfect, and in the end, it was better than perfect! I'm not going to lie, I'm a perfectionist, so of course I wanted my wedding day to go perfect...I hounded Carol/Bill with questions almost every week...we planned our wedding for several months and anytime I had a question, I always called them...there were a few times that I got frustrated, but that comes with wedding planning...I've read so many reviews where people said Bill was nice and Carol was rude...at first I was quick to agree with these comments until I realized the complexity of the whole business...Bill is a wonderful person and does great with the tours, etc...and Carol is also a wonderful person, but she's the organizer so of course she has to remain serious to avoid any confusion...Their experience and attention to detail really paid off in the end and helped our day go off flawlessly! I know how helpful reviews can be...so I've broken down a few things:

1. Cake: Carol did our cake and it was so beautiful! We showed her 3 different pictures of cakes we liked and she nailed it! She did a mixture of all three styles and it was gorgeous & delicious!
2. D.J.: We went with the house DJ (Ron) and he was so great! We met with him several times and he was very fun and personable! We did a dance routine when we changed into our reception outfit and he worked with us with making a cd that was exactly what we wanted!
3. Food: was very good, we had lemon peppered chicken and roast beef, it was all good, but the herb mashed potatoes were the best!!!
4. Decor: Crystal Garden's staff did an amazing job with the decorations...the morning of our wedding, there was another wedding in the crystal room, but CG staff pulled it all off and had our room set up before our guests even arrived! Centerpieces, napkins, everything was just the way we wanted it!
5. Day Of Execution: Carol made sure the wedding went off great and took care of the food, and Bill was in eyesight the whole night during our reception to make sure no problem arose.

Overall, this place was great for us b/c we wanted to have everything in one location! Originally my husband wanted to have an outdoor wedding & I wanted to get married at the Jewelbox in St. Louis...when we found the Crystal Garden, we realized it was the perfect place & perfect compromise...we had an outdoor ceremony and our reception was in the glass Crystal Room. Rehearsal was very pleasant and our big day went off flawlessly! We have received so many compliments and definitely appreciate The Crystal Garden's staff, especially the day of our event! Thank You! P.S. Here's a video of our perfect day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dazF9UKUO9w

I just had my wedding there and it was the best experience I have ever had. The owners were outstanding, the food was excellent, and the DJ rocked it out!!! I wouldn't say that the wife was rude at all, in fact she was just more serious about getting things done right and making sure that you get what you want. If i had to do it all over again i wouldn't change a thing!!

I recently had my wedding reception at Crystal Gardens and couldn't have been happier with the service, quality of food and price. We had originally planned to be married in another city but due to a job relocation, we decided to move our wedding as well. From the beginning, Bill and Carol were outstanding in assisting us with the planning of our reception and understood the stress that came along with scrapping all of our plans and picking up and moving our wedding to a new location. Throughout the whole process, we always felt like we could stop in to see Bill and Carol to ask their opinions or to simply get more information.

With regard to the wedding day, our reception was seemless with every detail that we requested being carried out precisely as we had asked. The food was excellent and we still have many of those who attended the reception commenting on how great the menu was as well as the facility as a whole. We really enjoyed sitting down with Carol to discuss what the menu would entail. While we had an idea of some of the menu items we wanted for the reception, we weren't sure on everything however that was cleared up with one 20 minute discussion with Carol who had a wealth of ideas that made the planning so much easier.

I appreciated that fact that Bill and Carol obviously have had numerous weddings at the facility and have probably seen just about every type of setup and menu possible but not once did they try to tell us there was only one way to do something. They gave us plenty of ideas throughout the whole process but in the end, they wanted to make sure we made the decision that we were happiest with.

As stated in previous posts, the grounds at Crystal Gardens are immaculate and I am sure many would agree. There was plenty of parking close to the facility which made it much easier for some of the older attendees as they did not have to walk far at all to get to the entrance.

I have read some of the previous posts and do not understand some of the items mentioned as we did not encounter anything even close. Our experience was as positive as a bride and groom could ever ask for. I would not hesitate to reccomend the Crystal Garden as we had high expectations for our reception and they were most definitely exceeded.

I was planning out my reception and looked into this place as a possibility. I visited with my fiance after being told to come in any time via e-mail. When we arrived, we asked for information and a tour of the facility. We were greeted by a woman who was neither friendly or pleasant, but we thought, maybe she's just having a bad day. We were rushed through the place in about 5 minutes and were not really allowed to look at anything. We asked questions along the way and were answered quickly, but we never stopped. Well, never stopped except at the bride's changing room for some reason. This was our first reception site visit and we were really hoping to have it here, but we were shocked at the rudeness of this woman who talked to us as if we were young and stupid. I kind of expected that since we were looking to spend a significant amount of our money, that we would be treated nicely, at least. Without looking at any other places, we immediately nixed this place as our reception site. My fiance was visibly upset and we were shocked that a place that looked as nice as it did could be so rude. Every other place that we have visited in the St. Louis area has bent over back wards to win our business and been extremely informative and nice. Maybe others have had good times here, but after reading the the negative comments that backed up our experience, I can only recommend another facility to anyone looking.

In terms of "setting the record straight" about the comments being posted, I can personally attest to the negative ones.

This is the type of place that you want to go to for a beautiful event. To create memories. To cherish forever. The location is perfect for this.

The ownership, on the other hand, is the exact opposite and seemingly go out of their way to make the experience difficult for the wedding party and its guests.

There are many examples of this that I could give and most would align with everything that has already been said. What I want to highlight to those thinking about this place is to be VERY careful and to insist on a contract. Without one the owners WILL actively try to nickel and dime you the entire time.

Worst than that for me though was the way they inserted themselves into MY wedding. Even if I didn't want or need their input or advice on something, they felt the need to state their opinion as though it was gospel.

It is very offensive that I spent half a year planning a wedding and the ownership would stand on its high horse pontificating to me about how it "should be" over the smallest details of MY wedding.

One of the posts titled "Posted vs. In Person" was written by the owner. In it he makes an outrageous claim that all of these negative posts could somehow be a conspiracy against him by a competitor! Why would people write such passionate, long, articulate and similar postings about their unique experiences?

I think that Bill H. who wrote the post (and is the owner) gave credibility to every negative post by feeling the need to respond the way he did. I wish I was willing to go a step further and put my number on the internet so that (as Bill H. said) people could "speak to someone who actually had an event there.

Our daughter's reception was held in the Cherub Room at the Crystal Garden and we couldn't have been more pleased. The room was lovely, the food was fantastic, and Karol and Bill did all they could to make things go smoothly. The even neatly boxed up the extra food and cake for us. Several people commented that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. Ron, the dj was great, too. I highly recommend this facility!

I have experienced the Crystal Garden Banquet and Event Center for my wedding. It was a great day and evening. I would recommend it for a quiet and rememberable event to have and cherish in pictures or videos forever. The food was made from fresh ingredients and didn't have that frozen, day old flavor. I would highly recommend it for any event that you need catered or for the special event that doesn't fit in your house. Pricing is very reasonable to the area for the venue that comes with it.

I frequent GC Cuisine and Crystal Garden at least once or twice a week and find that everyone there is VERY pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. they have wonderful food and it is a beautiful facility. I read some other reviews and have to believe that others have formed an opinion that is incorrect, most likely because they were "told" by others. I have used GC Cuisine to cater an event and plan on doing so again in the future....everything was fantastic and Karol was wonderful about everything. Thanks so much and I appreciate you all.

I recently attended a family members wedding at this location and agree that although the location is beautiful and the husband of the husband/wife team is very agreeable, the wife's attitude is completely unacceptable for someone in the service industry. I personally witnessed her rudeness as outlined in previous posts to both children and elderly.

As I talked with the family it turns out that, despite repeated requests, the bill for event was given with less than 14 business days before the event. Unbelievable since the bill states it must be paid in full 14 business days BEFORE THE EVENT. When the family went to discuss the price, which was more than double what was expected, there was more rudeness from the wife...

Although the location is wonderful, I would not recommend a major event there, by the time the attitude comes out it may be too late to change your venue.

When the internet was developed, it was designed to help disseminate information to a lot of people quickly and easily. In some circumstances, however, it has turned into a way for people to spread innuendos, half-truths and outright lies. The comments posted on this website by Anonymous on 7/11/08 typifies this. Since these utterly ridiculous statements were made as facts, we can only assume that either someone wrote these lies out of spite or a competitor posted them as a way to build up their business by destroying ours.
Either way, if a visitor to this site or any other site, wants to accept these comments, or any other postings, as the truth with no facts to back them up, that is their prerogative. If they would like to speak to someone who has actually had their event at our facility, we would be happy to supply them with names of people who can give them an accurate portrayal of their event at our facility and the quality of service we provide all our guests.

I have to agree with the reviews which state that the food is good. They serve healthy dishes that are very good. As far as the service, it is absolutely the worst that I have ever experienced at a wedding. Friends of ours were married and had their reception at the facility. The female owner was openly rude to guests throughout the day/evening from the time that you walked in. She yelled at children who were playing on the dance floor between the ceremony and reception telling them to sit, asking where their parents were (they were about 10 feet away and supervising by the way). When have you ever attended a reception where kids weren't playing on the dance floor??? I was one of the later tables to be served dinner (you have to walk into the hallway and they serve you from a table). By the time it was my turn they were close to being out of everything and we got no salad or potatoes at all. They didn't even apologize for running out, just said "we're out." I'm sorry, but isn't that the point of asking for a head count? To top off the evening she announced that they were closing at around 10, which was fine but at 10:05 started yelling at people to get out. As we were leaving I also witnessed her yelling at some of the wedding party which were helping carry out gifts because they were holding doors open, and, in her exact words, "You don't pay the bills here!" It was absurd. I will never have an event there and any time I am asked about the venue I strongly recommend against using it.

I have been involved in the wedding industry for 15 years as a disc jockey. I do not exculsively work at Crystal Gardens. I have worked on occasion at Crystal Gardens. I have always found the food and service to be of the highest quality - way above what you would normally find in the Metro East. As a vendor in a very competitive industry, I also understand that there are other DJ services that quote outrageous prices and have sub-standard employees that they pay $80-$100 per event. If a banquet facility does not conform to their "kickback" situation, they will do what they can to force a facility into booking them exclusively. And if they don't comply, they post cowardly threats and bad reviews on the Internet.

Every fifth wedding I work, I do NOT surrender my fees for the evening to the banquet facility or banquet manager. It is my experience that there are few companies that still believe this is a special day for a couple that is getting married. Crystal Gardens, the owners and the staff, still believe that this is a special day. They do everything they can to create an environment of elegance with the highest standards.

It remains one of the most beautiful areas in the St. Louis area to have a wedding. The food and service are top notch and WELL above par with what I have seen in the wedding industry in the area.

Now you have the COMPLETE story.

I am one of the top DJs at the largest DJ company in the metro Saint Louis area, and in my 13 years of experience, I have never had a worse time anywhere than when I worked at Crystal Gardens in Edwardsville.

In late 2006, I was tapped by a colleague in the industry, someone who worked as an event coordinator for the Kemp Auto Museum in Chesterfield (VERY classy place). She had seen me DJ several wedding receptions and decided to hire our company, asking specifically for me to handle her wedding reception later that year. At the time we first spoke, she said she was thinking about Crystal Gardens as her reception site. I knew the place and told her it looked nice, and it does - beautiful outdoor area for a ceremony, wonderful glass room for an indoor ceremony during cold months and in the rain, etc. When I actually got the paperwork for her reception a few months later, though, she had decided to have her reception at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. When I asked her why she changed her mind, she said that the level of service she would have received from Crystal Gardens would have been very poor.

A few months later, in the spring of 2007, I found out first hand what she meant. I was scheduled to DJ a wedding reception at Crystal Gardens, and the client was told by the facility that THEY had to supply a table for the DJ to use. Now, in 13 years of working as a DJ in countless hotels, banquet facilities, even Moose lodges and VFW halls, I have never once been to a place that REFUSED to provide a table for the DJ (I later found out that Crystal Gardens has a preferred DJ vendor that they recommend almost exclusively, and he brings in his own table because he has a vehicle large enough for one). So the bride and groom had to bring in their own table ahead of time for me to use, the hall manager would not let me set the table up anywhere near the dance floor, and there was virtually no sound baffling in the room so it sounded like an echo chamber. The bride and groom even told me earlier in the week that they were having a really hard time dealing with the manager of the hall, and if they had known it was going to be that much of a headache to deal with them, she would have chosen a different location for their reception.

A husband and wife team runs the place, and the husband has a knack for good service. He's kind, friendly, and always ready to make sure that you're satisfied. In fact, if I was able to work with him exclusively, I would gladly work there again in a heartbeat. But the wife is the one that is the hardest to try and negotiate anything with. She will not take any suggestions because she believes she knows the best way to handle every situation, even though it's obvious she hasn't done this job nearly as long as anyone else in her field. This facility has been open to private events for less than 3 years as of May 2008, and they have a LONG way to go before they even get close to the level of service and satisfaction that most people in the Edwardsville area (AKA Chesterfield NorthEast) require.

In summary, if a professional in the wedding industry (DJ, event coordinator or otherwise) tells you that the level of service at a particular facility is subpar, you best believe that person and look elsewhere. If I could them a Zero rating, I would, but I did hear from several in attendance that the food was rather good, so one star will have to do.

Edwardsville is very lucky to have Karol and Bill Hatton, owners of G C Cuisine and Crystal Garden invest the time and money they have into our community. They have a beautiful location that we should be proud of and proud to promote. I eat lunch there quite often and also take dinner home and I could not be happier with the quality of the food and personal service.Quality places, such as G C Cuisine & Crystal Garden need our support. We are lucky to have them in our back yard.

Without a hesitation- beautiful and convenient! But talk about rude. With parents standing by, there is no reason to reprimand a 6 year old, 5 year old, and 2 2year olds for trying to keep themselves entertained in the front area and hallway. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to reprimand a child when the parents are closely monitoring. This was done once by a rude wait staff female and second by the male owner. The third strike was when the female owner approached a five year old child and told her to pick-up rose pedals that were being played with by 2 adults as well as children. Again, the children were being supervised. This was followed by the male owner getting out a broom. More importantly, in my opinion, was the room full of tables covered in dirty plates and glasses. Let's see, pick on children, or have your staff do their job. HUM! Now that's a hard one.

Myself and my wife had our wedding ceremony there and yes, they have a beautiful location (even better once all the landscaping is ever finished) but the Service we received by the owners was poor. She was out-right rude to my wife and our officiant. First off: they booked another wedding immediately after ours after they said 'they don't do that'. We were so rushed after our 30 minute ceremony that they were stacking up the chairs while we were still trying to take pictures! Also, She provided a bridal staging room and several family members said they saw her "chucking" our belongings out of this room into the hall to make room for the next wedding party. Because of this we're missing several things. The "Crystal Room" is nice but not for the price and definitely not for the service- GO GET MARRIED IN THE PARK!!!!

We had a sales rep bring us lunch from this place, and then I have picked something up for a friend's baby shower. The food was ok, the lasagna that we had for lunch was burnt and the salad had several pieces of brown lettuce in it. When I went to pick up for the shower, there was a slight problem with the food we ordered and that they were short a few items. However, everything was fixed. The food is ok for a quick meal to take home.

PROS: quick pick up
CONS: wrong orders, and just ok food

This is a great idea and perfect for our family. The food is fantastic and the menu is easily found online. It's not the most convenience location, but now with it's banquet services, the space is necessary. The staff is often harried and sometimes a little crabby. For ready-made food, I'm happy to deal with that.

PROS: Quality and variety
CONS: Service can be not-so-friendly
