Visiting from Dallas and the Marriott recommended Louie's Chop House.

My food was excellent. My husband wasn't as thrilled. I ordered a fish special with mango pineapple sauce and he got Prime Rib. From the parking lot we were not impressed but the food was great, from app to dessert.

Service could have been better for the menu prices. Our waitress never once smiled or made eye contact. She didn't make suggestions even after we told her we had never been there before.

We would definately go back tho. It does seem to be a better option for the area. And it's a little pricey but a nice evening out.

Went to Louie's on Easter Sunday with 10 family members for the first time. Everything was great and the waiter was really nice. I ordered the pork chops which came with a soup or salad and a potato. I ordered salad and asked the waiter can I get it as a ceasar. He said no problem. When the bill came we split it up and noticed a Ceasar slad had not been accounted for. When I asked the waiter he said that is your salad you ordered. I said that I thought that my entree came with a salad and he said it does just not a Ceasar salad. WHAT?!?!? So I asked to speak with the manager Cathy and she told me that it was my fault and the waiter was not obligated to tell me that a Ceasar salad was extra and not part of the meal and she refused to take off the salad because according to her she was "trying to make money and run a business." We spent over 500.00 dollars in her establishment and the fact that she continued to argue about a salad for over 15 minutes in a crowded restaurant doesnt seem like good business tactics to me. As I walked away to sign my credit card receipt she went to our waiter and said give her the money for the salad. I told her I didnt want her money and she said its not my money it is his money. Unbelievable!!! I know alot of people in the restaurant and entertainment industry and my word of mouth will speak volumes. Food was great but if the service sucks especially from top level management then it doesnt matter how the food taste. If you have to eat there, get carry out.

Pros: friendly environment with great food

Cons: none

The atmosphere is upscale and friendly. I have been going to Louies since it opened . We continue to go because the food is always outstanding and the staff is always friendly. I read some reviews and people need to realize that yes it is an upscale steak house, so if you looking for a sandwich place this is not the place for you..
Love it and love the experience!

We love Louie's Chop House!, we have never had a bad meal there, the staff is friendly, they always accomodate special requests. I have gone there with 10 people and sometimes just the two of us and it never makes a difference in the quality of food or service. The food is expensive, but we have always found it to be worth it. We not only recommend them, but we bring people there for the first time and everyone has always enjoyed it.

We booked a Saturday afternoon banquet for our son's Communion party for about 45 people. We were quoted a per person price and were running a seperate tab for the bar. I called a few days prior to see if I needed to make any food choices and to give my count. I was told in a very condescending manner, " you already made your choice it was family style". Ok, so I figured everything was under control. I have had many banquets at other establishments and there are have always choices. The day of-everything seemed fine until the soup arrived, which looked very much like a cream chicken soup- which is what I expected. It turned out to be clam chowder. No one realized until after eating a good portion of the cup what it was. We then had a family member in tears because she is allergic to shellfish. Fortunately, she was ok. I asked the waitress, why clam chowder? I did not choose this. She said it's whatever the chef makes that day. I say it's more like what was left over from Friday! She went on the say that my family member should have alerted the restaurant of her allergy. Why would she for a family style lunch? It was then time to pay the bill. There was a per person total, a bar total and a seperate total for soft drinks cokes, etc. totaling 108.00 My husband (who rarely would complain about a charge on a bill) was very taken back by this. Unfortunately, we had people to thank and say good bye to so, we paid it and cleared out. This was eating at me so I called a few days later and was told thats just how they do things. She said it's stated on their menu, I never received a menu. Everything was on me, why didn't I ask, etc. I don't feel this is a common practice it should have been mentioned. I could not understand why we could not have even been offered pitchers for the kids or something. Moreover, I feel this should have been included in with the per person price. I have never heard of such a thing. I was told that they are a restaurant not a banquet facility. Funny, I booked a banquet. After about a 15 minute conversation, where I was told how completely wrong I was, I realized that I was getting nowhere. Clearly, these people do not have a very high value for their customers. I will nor will any of our friends or family consider having a banquet or patronizing this "restaurant" again. I would have been happy had they split the charges or even took some responsibility for the soup incident. All of the fault was thrown our way. It may not have been all that much money to her but it was to us - in fact, I was told how $108.00 was not going to make or break her. Are you sure? Learn how to treat your customers a little better they are the reason you are able to open your doors everyday. There are too many other great places in the neighborhood.

Pros: NOTHING!!!!

Cons: TERRIBLE ABUSIVE STAFF, OLD FOOD!!!!!!!

I have been there two times with both meals better than the recent visits of the downtown "to be seen" places. After going to Gibsons, Smith and Wolensky's, and other various steakhouses Louies Chops House gives just as good of a steakhouse experience as do the others. Louie's does charges as much as the others BUT there is no $30 parking fee, the tables are more quaint, you are NOT moved in and out like the cattle, and last but not least who cares if you are seen there or not, did I mention you do not have to get to know the otheres you are sharing a booth with?!@ No the deserts are not a mile high costing you $15 for bananna creme pie ( not better than a posh bakery on the north side), no the drinks are not $14 (I guess the extra is for the service or blue cheese?), no you are not going to see Michael Jordan or Woody Allen, or the sausge king of Chicago but you CAN enjoy just as good of a steak bone in filet or Chicago cut what ever...the prices are somewhat the same but a little more attention to who you are and NOT who everyone else is or what everyone else is doing.

Pros: Local to the southside

Cons: not too much

I just read the previous posting about disgruntled staff opinions? And I find it laughable. The quality of the food and the quality of the service at Louie's Chophouse has gone down immensely! Rather than take the time to address the problem, the management staff at Louie's would rather have their family and friends post fake reviews like the one here. Of course, it would have to be former staff, or someone with awful taste who doesn't like their restaurant they say. I find that just insulting! And I am neither a former staff member nor do I have awful taste. I have heard that the managers of Louie's look on the web and do damage contraol with fake good postings when people voice their opinions but this is just sad. I will never go to that place again and I will spread the word to all of my friends and family.

Funny that Louie's chophouse managers have to resort to writing fake reviews... like the one here about disgruntled staff opinions??? when people express their opinions about how lousy the place has gotten. Rather than fix the problem... i.e. train their staff not to be rude, or clean up the quality of the place in general... they would rather just be insulting to everyone with an opinion about that wretched place. I have heard this from numerous people, that this is a common thing for the managers to do! Pathetic.

I recently went to Louie's after not having been there in a while. The experience was solid, as always. While clearly not a downtown steak-house (i.e. grossly overprices, unbearably loud, confusingly busy), Louie's is among the best places to go on the south side for a steak and a drink. I confess that I'm not sure what the other reviewers are writing about--they either have awful taste or are former (likely fired) staff. Keep up the good work Louies...

AMENDED: Mary Hanigan--you clearly have mental issues if you're getting so worked up about a restaurant's review which CLEARLY indicates that you were likely fired. In fact, I think you served me a couple of times there--sad, cause I remember you not being such a demented, pathetic loser. Please do the world a favor and just stop eating out. That's all.

I am so happy that I didn't listen to what the people had to say, my husband and I went to the restaurant to celebrate his birthday. I was a little concerned because the reviews weren't the best, but we decided to try out ourselves and let us be the judge. The service was great, knew what she was talking about. As for the food w e both had steak and it was fantastic I had the filet which cook perfectly while my husband had the special the bone in Ribeye which he said was awesome. I would come back and again and tell my friends and family about it. I am so glad I didn't listen to the reviews because I would never have found my new favorite restaurant!!

Well, My husband and I recently went to Louie's Chophouse for dinner and I have to say I was beyond disappointed. We live in Oak Lawn and have been here before. We did not expect to be treated in the way that we were treated on this particular evening. Our food was nothing special, our drinks were not good, (How hard is it to make a good lemondrop martini???) and the hostess was yelling at her staff right in front of us!!! How unprofessional! We definitely will not be returning which is sad because we live so close! I guess there is always Jennys, Krapils, and Palermos

And as a correction to the reviewer ..... portly fellow.... Which probably is one of Louie's family members or friend of the family...

I have never been an employee of Louie's Chophouse (I have better taste than that) ..... nor am I "disgruntled" ... and the only awful taste that I have is the taste of the food you served that is burned into my memory.
Such an obvious play by people connected with Louie's Chophouse.... so sad.

Wow, what a huge disappointment! What hapened??? Louie's used to be such a great place to go to? A place that you could go to to get a good meal and good service and decent atmosphere! Now all you get is junk all the way across the board! The meal we got was edible at best, the drinks were pure distilled junk the service was shameful and the atmosphere was lacking! What a huge waste of time! Louie's stop going downhill! Just let us keep the fond memories and CLOSE ALREADY!

I recently went to Louie's Chophouse for dinner with some friends. I have never been treated so rudely by staff at a restaurant! The hostess was just downright nasty! The bartenders seemed more interested in what they were planning to do later that evening and my drinks were not good at all! The salad dressing was watered down! The list goes on and on! Louie's used to be such a great place to go to but has turned into the absolute worst! What a waste! I would never again waste my time and money on such a terrble experience!

We stopped in at Louie's in Oak Lawn by coincidence. It was the BEST dining experience we've had in quite some time. We went on a Friday night, and while they where busy, the "crowd" didn't affect the service. The food was EXQUISITE! The entire staff was marvelous, quite knowledgeable about the food and our server fantastic. We've always been "Petey's" fans, and while we'll still eat there, they can't compare to Louie's. The prices were on par with the quality of the food and service. You're not going to want to bring your Little League team there for after game celebrations, but for a date, even if it's not a special occasion, Louie's is the place to go.

As an added bonus, we were lucky enough to be there on the night the "Red Hat Society" was dining there. Those ladies are amazing! Louie is amazing, also. I find it hard to believe that anyone truly didn't enjoy their meal here.

For the Reviewer speaking about Louies Dining Hell,
Number one, I have been to Louie's many many times. Never have I had an experience such as the one that you are claiming to have had. Also, As for your slanderous comments that "Louie" was speaking in a lude manor, that would never happen. I spoke to the "mean hostess" about this and it seems as your facts along with I'm sure alot of other things, are off.

Cons: Very busy place may have a small wait on weekends

Last nights dinner at Louies was a waste of time and money. We had heard that the place was going downhill, but did not believe it. We were greeted by bright orange "Kathy" the hostess, who was by far the most rude hostess we have ever encountered. Still can't belive she actually works as a hostess, she would probably better checking luggage for explosives at Ohare. Bartendar, and waiter very nice. It was late so it was not crowded. The steaks were very fatty, we wouldn't have even eaten but were starving. The salad dressings were watery. Another couple had also mentioned that to us. Now we know for sure, NEVER AGAIN. Better steaks to be had at Wild Fire, and you can always find better staff at the Outback.

After a day of meetings we hit Louie's Circus House for dinner. The hostess was rude, not only to us, but also to the staff right in front of us. It was pretty busy for a thursday, so we were told we had to wait at the bar for our table. The Bartender was funny and very attentive, after we were sat at our table, we werer offended by a loud and lude conversation occuring at the table next to us. When we complained to the waitress and asked to be moved, she said she would handle it. Turns out the owner was the lude talker. After we found that out, the rest of the night just went down hill. We could not help but follow this man's actions through out the rest of the night. Needless to say we were very turned off by this unprofessional behavior.

Pros: Valet Parking, Close to Midway, Nothing Else

Cons: Louie and his Mouth, Under Value, Over Priced

The one time I went to Louie's Chop House on 103rd and Cicero in Oak Lawn, I was there with my parents and my uncle, who was visiting from out of town. As it turned out, I was the only one who liked my dinner. I had a filet mignon and they got it just the way I like it-red enough to be juicy, cooked enough to kill the bacteria. The salad (what I ate of it) was very tasty and they have a good French dressing. To wash it all down, the two Coronas were excellent.

Pros: quiet, good service, reasonable price

Cons: location
