"How long will it take to replace our car battery?" we asked. "There's one car ahead of you and it's almost done, so you're next," replied Brian. Although we've encountered snags during previous visits to Pep Boys' Service Department, on 12/17/2012 we experienced a catastrophic meltdown.

While we waited patiently, several other customers came and went. When we finally did speak up, a service rep lied, assuring us that our car was in the shop and being worked on when in fact it was still sitting outdoors where we had parked it.

Incredibly, we waited 2 1/2 hours for a simple battery replacement. By then, mere apology was just not enough - the unexplained delay, deception, and taking care of other customers ahead of us were totally unacceptable. So, we pointed to Pep Boys' Express Service Satisfaction Guarantee displayed prominently on the wall (a refund if you're not completely satisfied). The Service Manager refused to honor the guarantee.

A dispute escalated, during which one rep had the audacity to scream at my wife, "SHUT UP!" Obviously wanting us to disappear asap, yes, they somehow found a way to zero out our ticket.

Pep Boys' rude and incompetent employees give their customer service a bad name. If those morons worked for me (I'm a retired business manager), I would have disciplined - if not fired - all of them on the spot. Be warned - take your cars elsewhere for service!

Purchased a part for my truck. At time of purchase I was told they will match any lower price. I happened to find the same part for $96.00 less with free shipping to my home. When I went back to Pep Boy's and provided proff from a web site, they said the site I used didn't count. They never said that it depends on who has the better offer. So on another site it was $74.00 less expensive. After listening to how they have to pay their employees, and going around and around I managed to get the $74.00, in a gift card, they could not credit my account. They tried to explain how they have to order from K&N, guess what, so do all the other businesses that sell the K&N products. So beware of the so called price match.

I went in there last week around lunch-time and waited in the service area for five minutes with no acknowledgment. A guy working behind a nearby computer finally looked up and told me someone would be right with me. I waited about another four minutes, and no one came. At this point three other people were now standing behind me. I just walked out.

I bought tires from PepBoys about 6 months prior to stopping in. Well my wife hit a pot hole here in Chicago and the passanger tire went out. I told the guy in the tire department that it had the 55,000 warranty and I needed it changed out. He claimed that he couldn't find me in the database and asked if I had a receipt. I was a little angry that I mysteriously couldn't be found in the database because they had just updated it some time ago to a new format. So I went to my car and dug up a receipt that I luckily had on me. After talked with the salesman (who was acting like a wiseguy to me) I found out instead of going through this who computer thing and going out to my car he could have made a 3 minute call to the PepBoys in Lombard to verify if I had the warrenty. The receipt showed I had bought the tires from PepBoys and indeed had the insurance but then he kicked me out and refused to service my car because I was "being so dramatic". The guy at Lombard was much nicer but I will never spend another penny at Pepboys and will tell everyone that needs car related stuff to never go there either.

I had been there before for minor maintenance issues but this exprerience has left me in the position reluctant to return.
Check engine light was flashing and was told I had one bad ignition coil, & another was going bad, but they recommended that I changed all 6 along with the spark plugs. I got a tune up as well... almost $1000 total. That's a good amount, but because I am concerned with the maintenance of my car I did what was recommended.

Going over my itemized bill later, I realized there were extras on the bill that were not mentioned to me in the consult (i.e. a battery analysis...but my battery was a month old). I called beforehand and spoke with the same guy that did my consult and paperwork when I first brought my car in. Over the phone, he quickly agreed to refund me for a couple of the items on my bill as if he knew I shouldn't have been billed for them. I returned to the store to speak with a manager, who I was told wouldn't be able to see me.

I asked for an explanation as to how the extra items appeared on my bill his response was that it had to have been the mechanic (who was conveniently on vacation that day) that added the extra items to my bill. But the mechanics do the work, not the billing or customer service.

Eventually, i was refunded almost $200 of things that were added on to my bill that were not discussed with me, I had not asked for, were not required and that had nothing to do with why I went there in the first place.

Aside from that, their prices and selection of products are good, but somewhat unprofessional staff (swearing & remarks being made about customers cars which were audible from the nearby waiting area). I'm sure by shopping around I can get comparable prices and better quality service.

The worst! They drained my radiator and did NOT replace the coolant- $1100 in damages they refuse to pay for! They said my water pump was bad. I said replace it. They had to drain the radiator to do so. Receipt says they put in 2 gallons of coolant in but they NEVER did and I drove away with my engine seriously overheating!

The store has good service, however, if you want work done on your car, there can be a long wait. This may be due to it's popularity. The people are knowledgable and help when you are shopping. They also are helpful when you want to have your car serviced. The only problem is that if you have quick work you want done on your car, you might want to bring it to a local shop and avoid the long wait.

This store has a good stock of items. The employees are helpful if you are not sure what you need. I have purchased most of my car needs and always been pleased. Pep Boys offers to match the lowest price you can find and if you get a better deal after your purchase theyll pay you back the difference.

I put my car in for a standard tune - up and oil change and to check my brakes. I dropped off my car when they opened first thing in the morning and was told to come back after 2pm. I arrived there at 3.30pm after calling to see if my car was ready, which I was assured it was. When I arrived there I was told to wait about 10 minutes for my car, only to find myself sitting there for over an hour. I was very annoyed and the staff didnt seem to care at all that they had a customer waiting because they were running behind schedule. I found their prices average but their location is good.

PROS: Good location
CONS: Poor service and average prices.

I went here to buy a part for my car and was really satisfied with their selection and service. The employees are really well acquanited with their products and they were really quick at finding the product I needed. This is definitely a great place to get quick and knowledgeable help for all you car part needs!

I got alternator serviced there recently and it was replaced properly as asked, but After I got the car back they said the battery was dead and would'nt start. It turned out that the battery terminals just needed to be cleaned, very unskilled technitions. Left me out after closing to fend for myself, they offered no help.
