Ratings_icons Courier Cafe is wonderful.

We have eaten at the Courier Cafe for breakfast and lunch. They have a wide variety of items on their menu. Everything was very good, especially the milk shakes. Good service.

Ratings_icons An unexpected gem

Sara K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 875

I actually love this little cafe in downtown Urbana. It's an unexpected gem that not a lot of people know about. I've been here most often for breakfast or lunch, and there are lots of surprisingly good sandwiches and other meals. I highly recommend it when you need to get away from campus for a good meal.

Ratings_icons Urbana's Best Breakfasts are at the Courier

Rex K. | insider Insider | Rank: 26,581

Tucked away in the office of a defunct newspaper, Urbana's Courier Cafe is one of the little town's worst-kept secrets. It's busy any time of day, but especially during the breakfast hours - and small wonder, considering the tasty dishes offered up. Try their omelets or their buttermilk pancakes, and don't forget a side of sausage. If oatmeal is your thing, then don't miss theirs.

The old building features plenty of atmosphere, with antiques from both the newspaper business and now-vanished local buildings. And service comes with a smile, as the waitrons bustle about while keeping your coffee cup filled to the brim.

There's no offstreet parking, so you'll need to feed Urbana's ubiquitous meters Mon-Sat. And if a nice leisurely breakfast before hitting the Farmer's Market is your idea, make sure you show up before 9:00 - the place'll be hopping by then.

PROS: service, atmosphere, serving size
CONS:

Ratings_icons Great

The shake flavors are great. The burger selection is good and they offer sweet potato fries. They are well priced, not too expensive. Most people like their peanut butter shake--but i'd go for mocha or chocolate. They are also known for their salad bar. You pay by the ounce. They have a great atmosphere. Parking is metered.

PROS: good shakes
CONS: parking is metered
