There are so many better places to go for pizza rather than here. The pizza here is more like cheese breas - there are almost no toppings. The pasta was just ok. And the prices are what you'd expect from a nice restaurant, not this place. This place is an overpriced cafeteria.

I often went here while in high school and have been there a few times since then. I was never crazy about the food and found my experience to be the same more recently. They have pastas, salads, and sandwiches.

These homemade pasta delicacies will melt in your mouth. The sauce is fresh tomato-y and suculent.
Atmosphere will definitely put you in the mood for Italiano--the high ceilings, pillars, artwork. very tasteful and spacious.
Don't forget the cannolis---they taste just like the ones I've had in NY.

I consider this place to be the Italian Fast Food Restaurant, because you order what you want behind their food counter and pay the food your self, then they will give you number for your food. The staff will deliver your food to your table later using the number you receive early on. I would say the food is good, although not the best for Italian food. They have wide variety of pizza, pasta and also salad. The price is ok, not too cheap but not expensive. You will have a large portion for the price that you pay.

POMPEI WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1909 BY THE DAVINO FAMILY. IT WAS "JUST" A BAKERY THAT GRADUALLY INCORPORATED PIZZA AND SANDWICHES. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT NOW - THEY EVEN HAVE BANQUET ROOMS. AND IF YOU EVER WANTED TO SEE A LARGE SELECTION OF PIZZA - IT'S HERE! THEY HAVE A DRIVE-BY WINDOW WHERE YOU CAN CALL AHEAD FOR YOUR ORDER AND THEY ALSO DELIVER. THEIR MENU IS EXTENSIVE FROM APPETIZERS TO DESSERT. MY FAVORITE IS THE MARIE'S SALAD MADE WITH HEARTS OF ROMAINE, FRIED PROSCIUTTO, RED ONIONS, BLUE CHEESE AND TOPPED WITH MARIE'S VINAIGRETTE! IT IS AWESOME!

PROS: Parking is scarce especially during lunch time.
CONS:

I love the food. I've eaten everything on the menu twice! I know personally that the food is fresh and the cheesecake with raspberry sauce is to die for. Gnocchi baked with tomatocream sauce is my favorite. Right on Ralph and family!!!!!

I have been eating in Pompei for past 2 years... say once a week. I dont know whether they are running out of right kind of bread that comes with salad or pasta. They keep on changing the type of bread. I doubt these breads are good enought. I wouldnt mind this after all this is a cheap eat. But Last time I had Chicken ceaser salad and i definitely say the chicken is older than a day or two. It was so dry that I had to masticate for a while before i could swollow it. Definitely a Disappointment. I dont think i will go there with so many options in Taylor Street.

the food use to be better before they moved to their new location. the food's not terrible or anything....it's still decent, just use to be better a few years ago. i tried their cheesecake for the first time about a month ago....it was also the last time i will taste that cheesecake. the texture was not smooth and was dry....sucked the moisture out of my mouth.

I stumbled upon Pompei as I was trying to find my car after visiting a friend at UIC. As soon as I set foot in the door, I was surprised by the charming architecture not typically found in inexpensive restaurants. I stood at the menu display for about 5 minutes before I could finally make up my mind - everything looked delicious! And I was more than pleased with my finally choice - a turkey veggie sandwich, unlike any I had ever tasted. I definately recommend Pompei if you happen to be in the area!

This place serves high-school cafeteria grade Italian food, and by the time you order an entree, a soup or salad, and a fountain drink, you'll wish that you'd have spent that ten bucks elsewhere.

The food is delicious and the best part is its inexpensive just one complaint, what's up with the service you have there, everytime I go in the retaurant I feel the mood very tense. I know it's rush hour all the time in there, but can we get some smiles sometimes? If not for that believe me you will have my vote for the best restaurant #1 in Chicago, Illinois. The food over all is delicious!

Cons: crowded, no good parking

This place is average....the food is decent, but nothing to rave about, and it isn't that cheap either. The portions are average, and the only thing that is really a good deal is the pizza. Also, the cafateria type setup kinda cheapens this place, along with the staff yelling to take your order.

Pompei Bakery offers the best value in casual dining. Everything on the menu is delicious, but nothing costs more than $7. Try the pizza strudels, a modified calzone, that come in nearly a dozen varieties (turkey stuffing is an interesting one) or the salads. The pizza-by-the-slice is good, but not great, though you can find almost every combination possible.

The greens that they use for thier salads have everything but iceberg. With interesting additions like sliced granny smith apples and dried cherries, you will never want a burger for lunch again!

Since 1909, this has been the place for carryout pizza (but there are tables if you care to eat in). Big, thick squares of bready pizza---open-face, stuffed or regular---with toppings that go from anchovy to zucchini and back again, areā€¦
