I just love the use of an old fire station and the nice decore. The food was great. My steak was tender\r
and delivered medium rare as requested. The mashed\r
potatoes were not hot enough though. I will return when\r
my budget allows.

Great Food! but it ends there. We waited over 30 min for our first round of drinks and were not asked to order our first course for over 1hr. Waiter (lets call him Lloyd from Entourage) was the worst i have ever had. Never came back to check on us ever. Took 10 minutes to get us the bill after we asked while he tended to tables around us. We found the root of the problem when we realized that our party of 6 automatically gave him a 20% tip. Bottom line- Great food but we will never go back.

When I dined at The Firehouse Restaurant for the first time, I was really excited. I love buildings with history, as being an old firehouse, they kept many parts of the firehouse, I love the firepoles in the bar area, and the whole environment when you arrive. The food was amazing, my server was very nice, did not feel like I was rushed, kept on coming back in a timely manner to check if everything was okay. Have many types of food, very accommodating, especially since my friends a vegetarian and have peanut allergies. They made her a delicious dish, and she was able to enjoy herself, all I have to add is that it was a terrific experience and I revisted couple times after, keeps getting better, and would highly reccommend this place to anyone.

Pros: menu with options

My experience was very disappointing. For a restaurant with such a high priced menu and wine list, it definitely did not measure up. The food was only average and very overpriced for the quality. The cutlery was dirty. Most upsetting was the attempt to serve a lousy glass of white wine in place of a $15 glass of Sonoma-Cutrer 2007. Had I not been familiar with the wine, I would have been duped. The server came back with a lame excuse that the bartender poured the wrong thing--and by the way--"we are all out of Sonoma Cutrer." Why not come back and tell me that and then let me choose something else? Instead, they try and rip me off with what wasn't as good as a ??2 buck chuck?? from Trader Joe's. They even tried to bill me $15 for the cheaper substitute. If they had simply comped the wine I wouldn??t even be writing this, but they seemed bent on ripping us off. I won??t ever be back and you should never go.

Pros: Decor

Cons: Average food, poor value

To me a frequent Diner in the City "The Firehouse" is the very best restaurant in Chicago. Clean, warm, comfortable, wonderful wait staff, the food was scrumptious the atmosphere delightful. I am a total white linen and tablecloth kind of guy who loves attention, a good cocktail and a great meal. The others are good but boy am I glad I made to the Firehouse it is my new best restaurant in the city.

When I thought they turned an old fire station into a restaurant I was thinking cold, drafty, open, loud, smelly and I was cautious to try it. They did a very elegant and tasteful job building an interior inside the original structure. Still has a fire pole in the bar area and at least in one bathroom are the original sinks from 1905 where the rest of the bathroom is spacious and spotless.

There is an old rule, the in people go to the out places, the out people go to the in places. The firehouse is definitely an out place located in the south loop on Michigan Avenue in a very historic part of the city. The firehouse has just the right number of booths and tables and the sound dampening is awesome. 5 stars way to go Firehouse.

I was excited to eat here, and made a Saturday night reservation for my birthday & also a friend's birthday two weeks in advance. I travel for work and was only planning to be in town on Saturday for the celebration.

Needless to say, I was shocked and stunned when the restaurant called and left me a voicemail two days before my reservation to cancel because they had booked a private party. I called back to make sure I understood that yes, in fact, they were cancelling a Saturday night in Chicago reservation on Thursday because, essentially, they had gotten a better offer. The gentleman with whom I spoke offered to get me a reservation at a second rate chain seafood restaurant in tourist town. Not acceptable.

I had to scramble to find an alternative...not an easy thing to do in Chicago for a Saturday night reservation when it is Thursday afternoon. I did not get into several of my choices. We finally ended up at Keefer's, which is a favorite and a tried and true choice of both myself and my dining companion. I recommend Keefer's highly and will be pleased to give them my business in future. Of course, I will never attempt to eat at Chicago Firehouse again.

I enjoyed the atmosphere at the Firehouse, it had a kind of energy that made eating there more enjoyable. I had a steak and it was pretty good but definitely not among the best that I have had.

Pros: great atmosphere, great management

Cons: hard to get a table

Having eaten at the firehouse a few times I want to share with al of you my last experience. I was amazed how fast a restaurant could go from good to horrible service. Upon entering the place there was no one at the door, we went to the bar for a drink and the bartender was nice, that is where the trouble began. The food quality was lacking with a flavorless soup, the bisque. The server did not come back to my table for 30 minutes, having asked for a manager to express my displeasure, the server told me that they had no managers tonight. I could talk to the host with any problems. WOW. Being in the industry I asked some of the servers what was going on and they replied that the owner is letting things slip. It's too bad, It used to be a place that I would take a guest for a great South Loop experience, now I'll drive past and enjoy Room21.

Recently had my rehearsal dinner here and we couldn't have been more impressed! The staff was on top of every step from the begging stages of organizing everything, to the final moments of executing each detail. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to plan a wonderful, romantic and delicious event. We will absolutely be going back for lunch or dinner when we're in the area again!

Cons: Gets pretty busy--make a reservation if you're going for dinner

after reading positive reviews for this restaurant we decided to have thanksgiving dinner here. what a mistake! we were seated 20 minutes late, and then completely rushed through our dinner. our table was directly under the air conditioning, which was on full blast. the waitress brought our check when we were only halfway through dinner, and then pushily returned to collect it before we had even made it to dessert. the food was OK, though nothing particularly special, the overall experience was so unpleasant, it was impossible to enjoy it. i've never had such a disappointing dining experience.

In a city with more than enough steak houses, this place can hold it's own. I was pleasantly surprised with their side dishes.

Cons: Not located in the most exciting location.

I recently hosted a business dinner at The Chicago Firehouse and was thrilled with the way it turned out. I don't live in Chicago so I hadn't seen the restaurant prior to our dinner and I was blown away by the atmosphere. It's a unique space that made our "business dinner" so much more enjoyable. The party planner made the planning very simple and the service was flawless. The only downfall was that the group had to wait a bit for enough taxis to get us back to the hotel. Overall, a great experience- we will be back next time we are in Chicago!

During a large exhibition last week, we had planned a dinner for customers and employees. All of the preparations had been made in advance with their catering person, who of course, was not there when we arrived. We were supposed to have an open bar in a private room for 3 hours. Funny thing, no one knew so we waited 20 minutes while the 2 overworked ladies serving us, took our orders, went down to the full bar and ordered our drinks. It was a disaster. The food was not what we had ordered, although close and good. The worst part was the initial attitude of the manager when he accused our planner of not sending them the details in advance. So when she returned to the office, she of course sent all of the e-mail correspondence to prove she had done her part. It amazes me that the manager would have this kind of attitude, blaming the customer before finding out the true facts. Never, never, take a large group to this restaurant.

My wife and I came here for the first time upon a recommendation from a friend. We had not been because we rarely dine South of downtown but it was completely worth the extra few minutes in a cab. The Filet Oscar alone is worth the trip and the atmosphere surprised us. Very impressive for a building which used to be a Firehouse!

I was hosting my customers from a well known beverage company and asked that the restaurant make sure that this particular beverage brand was available during the banquet. I went over this requirement three times with the banquet manager in the months and weeks preceding the event and was assured it would be no problem. When I arrived for the dinner, much to my horror, they had forgotten to purchase this beverage and it was not available for my guests. My guest were then forced to drink their competitors brands instead. It ruined the dinner and I am sure left a disagreeable memory of my companys consideration for them. I do not remeber if the food or other services were any good due to this ugly ommission. I do not recommend this establishment for a banquet due to their lack of concern for the clients needs.

The Chicago Firehouse is located in the new found neighborhood of south loop. I visited the restaurant without a reservation on a weekday and was prompted seated. There was live music on that hot summer day in the courtyard, but my friends and I skipped the music for indoor seating due the heat. As far as the food goes, the lobster bisque was creamy and tasty and my Cobb salad was just right. I also tasted my friends' fish dishes (some white fish) and it was alright. The quality of the food was good, but nothing special. All-in-all, I would just the prices are above average ($20-$30 per entre) given the average food.

I took my wife here for our Anniversary after hearing some good things about it. Talk about a terrific find! From top to bottom, this retaurant is fantastic! Service was outstanding, food was some of the best I have had in Chicago, and the desserts were incredible as well! I had the Filet, Wife had the pork chop (had to be 3-4 inches thick!). Best part was the Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. Best Dessert I have had. EVER!

Kudos to the owners, managers and chef of this restaurant. You have yourself an Excellent restaurant! Can't wait to come back!

We had a marvelous time here, everything from the food to the decor to the service was top notch.

We decided to sit in the bar area which was a great idea, it was early evening so there was still streams of light coming through the windows. The waiter was attentive and helpful, without hovering.

And the food was simply terrific. The rainbow trout was superb, my friend had the steak which was awesome. The spinach was probably the best I've ever had. And for starters we split an order of frog's legs, a dish I hadn't seen in years.

This part of South Michigan Avenue is becoming a cool neighborhood so parking is at a premium, the one disappointment was the $9 valet fee. But the prices at the restaurant were very reasonable for a place that clearly offers excellent cuisine and atmosphere.

The food and service were great, we were greeted and seated promptly. The pork chop with chili/mango was TO DIE FOR. My husband loved the blue cheese rib eye as well. The server was most attentive and knowledgeable. It's a little crowded and noisy at times...not much in the way of a private booth, but the food and service com-pensated and we would not hesitate to return on a subsequent trip to Chicago.

This place is pretty tasty--I had chicken with a white corn pudding (which the waiter urged me to "be sure" I really wanted) and some bread pudding for dessert. It was all very good but I'm not sure the prices were that reasonable. Also it was freezing in there.

After hearing from friends about how good the food is at Chicago Firehouse Restaurant, my husband and I decided to find out for ourselves. I must say the food was good, I ordered the salmon dish and my husband ordered a steak, a very big steak. Although we enjoyed our food, I must say we did not receive very good service. During dinner, our waitress did not come by once to see how we were doing (although the busboys were very attentive and helpful). It wasn't until she gave us our bill that she even cracked a smile. Even though the food was good, due to the lack of friendly service, we will not be revisiting Chicago Firehouse.

My husband and I were long time professional servers in Chicago at high end restaurants. On average we ate at three nice restaurants per week. This was the best overall meal we experienced. The mole appetizer was to die for. The bread pudding with carmel bourbon sauce was wonderful as well. The service was impeccable.
