We have two children at Banner ?? and each time I walk one of my boys into his classroom, I feel like I am leaving him with the kindest, warmest, most creative and genuine group of moms I know, moms who happen to have degrees in early childhood education. Each morning when we arrive at school (and also when we leave), my children are welcomed by Adell Kabins, the school??s director, who stands at the front door and greets each child by name. This routine does not vary. It??s the same, smiling familiar face every morning, and I have learned that my children rely on and enjoy this familiarity to feel a sense of security about going to school. Once inside, the teachers welcome my children to school, and there is such a sense of joy, happiness and excitement that Banner teachers bring each day. (At first, I wondered if they all did a couple of shots of espresso each morning.) But in all seriousness, they make each child feel like a rock star, as if the day simply could not begin until that child arrived at school.
One drizzly March morning, I returned to school after drop off to leave something in my child??s locker. I followed the lively music coming from down the hall to the gym where all the children were assembled, intently watching Irish dancers. Another day on the way home from preschool, my four-year-old told me all about how to make French crepes, after one of the moms (who is indeed French) came to school to show the class how she made them. When I met with one of my son??s teachers for the parent-teacher conference (Banner has these twice a year, another thing I love about this school), I was shown a photo of my son watching the Wilmette Fire Department show all the different hoses and sirens on one of their trucks. These little surprise activities were not announced or revealed as part of some preschool curriculum. It??s just part of the way that Banner works: Let??s learn about St. Patrick??s Day and have Irish dancers perform; let??s teach them about food from France by having a mom demonstrate her French culinary skills; and likewise, let??s teach a little fire safety by having our local firemen demonstrate to the children what they do each day.
My goal with sending my children to preschool is to make them love learning and be excited about school. When I hear my children ask, ??Am I going to preschool?? in the morning with a smile on their faces, I know we??re achieving that goal.

My family has had a wonderful experience at Banner preschool. I have sent both of my children there, and several of my children??s cousins have attended Banner, too. I have been consistently impressed with Banner??s thoughtful approach to children. Play-based learning is emphasized by an amazingly talented, energetic, and knowledgeable staff. When one of my kids struggled with separation fears those first few weeks of preschool, having never really been away from home without a parent, his teachers and Adell Kabins, the school??s director, were so adept at helping him adjust, so kind and compassionate with him. He thrived at Banner thereafter. I was and continue to be so grateful to the Banner staff for their sensitivity. They consistently demonstrate expert knowledge of child development, sound teaching strategies that prepare kids for kindergarten and beyond, and genuine caring and concern for all kids at the school. There is a strong sense of community at Banner, and I feel so fortunate that my kids have attended this truly unique school.

I am constantly impressed by the enthusiasm of the Banner staff. They really make my children feel special and important. All 3 of my children have attended (or currently attend) Banner Preschool and I have nothing but praise for the staff and the curriculum. We have experienced the Young 2's classroom through Kindergarten Enrichment, Lunch Bunch and Stay and Play. While each program is different, the dedication of the teachers to each individual child is consistent. I am always impressed at parent-teacher conferences with how well the Banner teachers "get" my children. Highly recommend this amazing school.

Banner Preschool - safe, secure, nurturing, and educational, just to start! When all is said and done, we will have sent 4 children through 7 years at Banner, and each one has loved their experience! Were there bad days? Of course, isn't that life? But it can't be blamed on the entire school, maybe my child was going through something too? The point is, Banner personnel are always there to talk to you, advise, and help, not to mention the amazing Banner community as a whole! We've met some of our closest friends there beginning with our eldest' class. \nThe most important recommendation I found helpful when searching for a preschool was that Banner is ""nurturing,"" and it is in spades! The facility is secure and the outdoor play area is fantastic, each of my kids who were too young to be enrolled at the time always wanted to play in it as well. You must check it out for yourself and meet Adell, she's so kind and clearly loves every child who walks through those doors. It's definitely a wonderful environment where you can trust your child is in safe, loving hands, though they might not be your own hands. Definitely worth checking it out yourself! Did I mention all the teachers are accredited? Yea, they are.

I put 2 boys through Banner Preschool from 2002-2007. We have such great memories of our time there. The Director and the teachers are the reason the program is so stable. They make it look simple. However, I think it takes a strong vision to avoid following the latest fads.

As a proud Banner alum, I can safely say that I and every single one of my siblings enjoyed the experience, as did dozens of people I ended up going to elementary/middle/high school with--all of whom went on to be engaging, intelligent, and talented individuals. Not only were there tons of stimulating activities and things to play with, but the staff members were also so engaging and genuinely interested in our education that we felt they were extended family. Looking back, there were so many great memories, and I am positive that it laid a strong early education foundation that contributed to both my learning and social skills later in life. Hats off to Adell, who has been nurturing children for over 20 years, and all her staff!

Our child attended Banner Preschool for 2 years. After 1 year at Banner, thinking that our child was not ??traditionally? learning enough, we thought about enrolling our child at a local Montessori School. Adell Kabins, the director of Banner Preschool, sat down & talked with us regarding this matter. Banner school really cared about our child and did not want to disturb the social & learning environment. This was for sure one of the best parent decisions we have made. The 2nd year our child was at Banner, she really blossomed. Our child has made friends that will hopefully be with her for the rest of her school years & life. Our child has learned to believe in herself. This preschool has a philosophy that Play is the Foundation for Learning. We as parents strongly believe this philosophy was helpful for our child. Also, we realized the staff at Banner has each been there for at least 10+ years. Adell has been at Banner for almost 30 years. This is a good sign. The teachers really enjoy what they do and it shows. The kids are so happy & are learning by playing. This school prides itself in helping children become more resilient by nurturing a preschooler??s self esteem, pride, self respect, and ability to face challenges. We were so lucky to have our child attend this preschool.

Now that my three have graduated from Banner, it's hard to put into words how perfect it was for my family. From the minute they were personally greeted each day by director Adell Kabins, my children were wrapped in a nurturing, empowering environment.

I originally made sure about the facilities: stimulating playground, creative learning stations, and even an indoor playground for winter. But I soon discovered that it's the people at Banner who really make it amazing.

From the young two's program, all the way through Kindergarden Enrichment, I felt that the teachers went above and beyond to meet each of my kids at their level- which was never the same! When one of my children did have some issues which raised a red flag, his teachers and Adell helped me through the testing process to get the help he needed.

I was just watching a video of my son's three year old Mother's Day program. He was singing "I love you today" as he signed with his hands. Still brings a tear to my eyes! Thank you to Banner Preschool We all miss you!!!

No stars really. Sending our child here for the young 2?s class was the worst mistake I have ever made. Here are just a few examples why:\n\n1.\tThere was practically no communication about how our child was doing in the classroom for 5 months, and then we were blindsided at the Parent-Teacher Conference with speculations about major developmental disorders. This is information that should have been brought up and discussed with us immediately versus waiting 5 months until the conference. I had repeatedly asked about my child prior to this. They kept the classroom very secretive. After telling us this information they tried to actually dissuade my husband and me from taking our child to our pediatrician. How in the world could they suggest not seeking medical attention instead to have a child therapist observe?\n\n2.\tWhen I tried to talk to the director Adell Kabins about the issue I had with his diaper never being checked and changed because it would be really full and leak through, once up to his armpits, she tried to advise me to withhold fluids before he came to class. Really, deprive my child of fluids is the answer to this issue? Wouldn?t that cause more distress to my child? Perhaps part of the reason my child had trouble sitting in circle time, due to such discomfort. \n\n3.\tI withdrew my child after this and even when they recognized they made great mistakes, they had the audacity to keep a majority of the tuition and deposit we paid for the following school year before we knew how awful they were to my child. In hindsight, I wonder if they held such important information back about my child for monetary gain. Which is absolutely deplorable. \n\nThis experience caused a great deal of needless stress and trauma for my child and family at the hands of the staff at Banner Preschool. We spent a many months trying to get over this and manage damage control. They failed us greatly. Banner is clearly not fit to take care of and teach children. \n

Our four children (two currently enrolled, two graduated) all have a special place in their hearts for Banner. The director, Adell Kabins, is as knowledgeable as she is kindhearted. Her passion for early childhood education is evident in all that she does. From greeting every child at the door each day, to entertaining them with stories and songs, to providing workshops and enrichment for the teachers (many who have stayed for 10 plus years), to organizing talks and family events for the Banner community. The classrooms are inviting, and the toys and materials are of high quality. The teachers find a wonderful balance between consistency in routine while exploring new avenues of curriculum-building based on the students' ideas and specific interests. Adell and the teachers are always open to discuss concerns, and to share a nice or funny anecdote about your child's day. The compassion, warmth, and creativity at Banner Preschool creates a nurturing and inspiring environment for our children to feel safe, comfortable and confident to learn, grow, and share with others...and for those things we are forever grateful to Banner.

My three kids have attended and graduated from Banner Preschool. They started in the 2 year old program then continued through the 3 year old, 4 year old, and kindergarten classes. There curriculum is full of exploration, creativity, working out social skills, and they have the most amazing array of interactive toys and activities. Plus they have a marvelous outdoor gated playground for good weather AND A HUGE INDOOR PLAY AREA FOR THE WINTER TIME. This is a really important factor in my mind. \r\n\r\nThere is no comparison to the local park district preschool where the classroom is devoid relevant toys and activities since the room is shared by multiple sets of kids ranging from preschool to after school care for elementary school kids. Each classroom at Banner is loaded with engaging activities set up just for your preschooler. Definitely the place to send your child to give him or her that great early start in life. As the parents, you'll walk away yourself with incredible friendships with other parents that you won't get from the park district.\r\n\r\nCompared to other preschools, I had visited 15 when I decided on Banner Preschool. What struck me was the classroom setting, highly trained staff, and a director who greets every child by name at the front door every morning.\r\n\r\nCheck it out yourself and I'm sure you'll be just as impressed and attached as our family is.
