The Botanic Garden is so beautiful. A great place to take guests or go alone and enjoy the breathtaking grounds. If you live close and plan to visit more than twice per year, you may want to consider a membership. There are also great activities for children!

I feel compelled to create an account just to write this review. The wonderland express is a con. You pay $12 for parking, $20 for 2 non member adults and $8 for a child & then see absolutely nothing. Some trains, some soapsuds and some christmas trees.
The price should have been 10 dollars total max.
Throw your money someplace else.

The gardens are beatuiful during spring/summer/fall. However, I would stay away from the wonderland express that is there now during the holidays. It is a waste of money. You are paying ($10 per person for non members) to look at a 10x10 room filled with soap and gordes (soap falls out of the sky to make it seem like snow and the staff made replicas of some Chicago landmarks out of gordes). I was disappointed with this trip.

A wonderful place to visit in Chicago. Does not get the attention the museums do, probably due to it's location - not close to downtown. It is a beautiful, sprawling, well maintained garden with a great variety of gardens and exhibits, and is one of the best places in the area for a walk. Obviously the best times to go are the warmer months, but any time of year is worth the trip. Difficult to get to - you either must drive, or take the train or bus and make the hike from the stop to the garden, but there is plenty of parking. Plenty of information services, a nice outdoor restaurant to eat it, and a serene atmosphere make this an excellent place to read, walk, or watch.

PROS: so much to see
CONS: difficult to get to

I greatly enjoy the Chicago Botanic Garden - the walks, the trees, the pond. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, just absorbing the way the light reflects and changes the look of the garden; or as a way to get some excercise with a vigorous walk around the property. Parking is pricey though...if you're going to go regulary just pay for the membership.

If you are into gardening or plants or just want a day to relax, Botanic Garden is the place for you. They have all types of gardens from Japanese Gardens to Water Gardens. Beautiful colors of all types of flowers and plants and you can spend the entire day just walking. It's very relaxing and if you don't want to walk, they even have tours. There is also dining and refreshments. Great place to bring a date or the entire family. Parking is plentiful.

The Chicago Botanical Gardens is a fun place to go with family and friends all year around. We especially like the little cafe where you can sit outside and enjoy the flowers and birds. They have beautiful gardens, classes, workshops, plant sales and a very nice little shop. You just pay around $10 for parking and entrance is free. You can also purchase an annual membership that entitles you to free parking in addition to other things for around $50.

Who doesn't like the Botanic Gardens? A sunny warm day is the perfect day to take a stroll through the gardens. One does not need to know a lot about flowers to appreciate the gardens. However, there are not as many flowers as other gardens, but there is really nice landscaping. Also, it's large but it doesn't take more than a few hours there to see everything.

If you are looking for something to do, just walking into this place will lift your spirits. They are open year round, and have some of the most beautiful gardens you have ever seen. There are special exhibits and things for the whole family to do. I always enjoy coming here.

The Chicago Botanic Gardens is gorgeous and full of variety. The grounds are extremely well-kept. I personally love the Japanese gardens, which include a beautiful waterfall, unique bridges, sculpture, buildings and plants.

Visiting the Botanic Gardens is an affordable activity since you only pay for parking and there is a bike path that goes right to it.

There's plenty to do here all year long. Obviously, summer has the most flowers and activities, but fall and winter bring beautiful foilage and lights.

Chicago's Botanic Garden is far outiside of the city, but it is worth the hike. The Botanic Garden showcases acres of plants of so many varieties, and a casual stroll through the gardens is both educational and extremely relaxing. You will find Japanese gardens, tumbling waterfalls, rows of rose bushes, and more. A day at the Botanic Garden is a great way to appreciate the beauty of natural life.

The inexpensive Chicago Bontanic Garden is a great place for a stroll. They have a variety of landscapes spread out over many acres. Additionally, they boast interesting indoor facilities as well as educational talks and tours. The have an anti-picnic policy, which is unfortunate, but the gardens are a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.

This is a lovely place and can easily spend couple of hours here. You can take a walk and enjoy nature;s beauty. The admission is free but there is a parking fee of $12 a vehicle which is quite economical for a family of four. It is pretty even in winter with the lights.

This is a superior facility. There are plants of all types here to view and get a close look at. They are obviously very well taken care of and there are signs to let you know what you're looking at. A must-see if you are in town visiting.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion (especially at Citysearch), but after 13 years visiting the Chicago Botanic Gardens I would disagree with the emphasis on the "relaxing" nature of CBG in so many other reviews -- or at least point out that relaxation would not be the primary benefit I would mark about this wonderful place. Instead, I would stress the powerful inducements to the imagination and aesthetic sense this place can provide -- even the Japanese gardens, places of serenity and contemplation, are not places of "relaxation" -- rather of rejuvination through active contemplation. There is also much humor and creativity and just plain awe in this Museum of Science and Industry for the spirit.

The bugs exhibit made our visit into a mini-adventure searching for the various bugs. If you bring children, it's going to be hard to keep them from climbing the ants! The themed gardens are beautiful; my personal favorite was the Japanese one. As if the gardens aren't enough, the stores compel you to take a look and see how you can create your own version of the gardens.

There are few, if any, places in the Chicago area to match the serenity of CBG. Even if you have no interest in flowers, etc., this place should be high on your list. It inspires and mellows you at the same time.

The Chicago Botanic Garden has to be the most relaxing place in Chicago. It's absolutely beautiful. There's no better place to escape the stress and noise of the city. Great place to take a nice long walk.

I rode up here from the city last summer almost every weekend while training for the AIDS Ride, and it's a really tranquil place to walk around and admire the greenery and flowers. Lovely for walks, nice and quiet.
