Spoon is a high energy lounge located in the heart of Oldtown. We are focused on delivering unparallel service, great music, and an amazing night out. Live DJs including DJ Flipside and DJ speed pump out hip hop/pop mashups in our intimate setting. Summer is here and our outdoor patio is the perfect place for sipping on vodka lemonade for any size parties. Both a destination spot and neighborhood hang, Spoon is an institution in Chicago Nightlife. Bottle service is always available and sunday night is industry night! Plan your next party here and we promise you a night you won't forget....or maybe you will!!!

The Scene
Understated style in the form of masculine brown lounge-seating, burnt orange throw-pillows, large swaths of exposed brick and soaring vaulted ceilings dresses up the lofted space. A mirror-backed bar features customized bottle shelving and modern chrome-accented stools where a 20-something crowd sips cocktails. The spacious loft area provides great vantage points, another smaller bar and booths and tables for cocktail service.

The Draw
The well-liked martini list features favorites like the Barely Legal made with Ketel One Citroen, pineapple juice and peach and sour apple liqueurs garnished with a floating edible orchid, among other sweet concoctions. Bottle service is a pricier option, but just as popular on weekends for those who want table service. A smart menu features regional comfort food dishes such as the popular Philly cheese steak with onion bread pudding or Cajun spiced sweet potato fries served with horseradish crema.

Key Points

  • Amazing Live DJs
  • Outdoor Patio
  • Private Parties

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - A capable sound system delivers crisp highs and rich lows perfect for conversation, while the half-dozen plasmas show sports and video montages if talking isn't your thing.
  2. Look Good - For a neighborhood nightspot, the club is on the dressier side; too casual gear is frowned upon, and tennis shoes and sports attire are outright banned. Jeans with something black is the uniform.
  3. Where to Sit - The patio doubles the sitting space, making for a location for pleasant-weather weekend people-watching.

Trendy but Dark

by Megan H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,277

This bar has a trendy crowd and often gets packed on the weekends. They have very few tables and the back bar area is incredibly dark. Usually you don't notice that late night but if you ever come in here sober its hard to see!

Best Friday Night in Chcago

by Infinity

All I have to say is WOW! This is everything I have been looking for in a bar! I was taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. It wasn't the typical nightclub with one demographic of people listening to one type of music. They would be playing John Mellencamp then follow it up with a techno song followed by Will Smith. The crowd was very diverse and mature. Just a big group of people out looking to enjoy themselves (with no stupid stuff going on). The Manager is AWESOME! He found out it was my friend's birth day and gave him a free shot. I feel like I'm rambling now, I just wanted to show my appreciation to Spoon for making last Friday ROCK! Thanks

Pros: Great-Service-Great Music-Good Looking People

Cons: Got Real Crowded After Midnight

Best Service EVER!!!

by InfiniteJ

My buddy told me to go online and check out the pictures of this bar he wanted to go to that night. So I went to the address he emailed (sorry I don?t remember what it was) and this place looked pretty cool. I ended up going and had the best time of my life. I usually never write reviews but if I would not have gone out that Friday I would have never met my girlfriend Nicole. Happy Anniversary Sweety!

Pros: Friendly Staff - Awesome Crowd

Cons: Men's bathroom was kinda small

Best Party Room Ever!!

by abba1

Had a birthday party here last Friday and it was awesome! We had the entire upstiars loft area to ourselves from 9-12. We met Tlyer the manger who could not have been funnier(guy w mustache). My friends were hesitant at first about having it at Spoon because it usually gets so packed. We had plenty of room up there to do whatever we wanted. Usually bars will charge a fee upfront for the party room space, but not here. We would be crazy not to have all our parties at Spoon.

Pros: Fantastic Party Room

Cons: Can get crowded the later it gets

Great Party Room

by culli

I was recommended Spoon by a friend of mine who had a party there. It more than lived up to our expectations. We had 2 personal bartenders solely for our party! Music was great, stiff drinks and freindly staff. What a memorable experince, would recommend to anyone looking for a private party room.

Pros: Great professional staff

Cons: Crowded

Bad staff!!!

by chigirl24

I threw a birthday party here and it was the biggest mistake ever. I had five friends verbal/sexually assaulted by the bouncer with the mohawk from tinley park at the bar the night of my party. When a complain with the manager was made the manager responsed with "what do you want me to do." This is not appropriate at all, nor is it a response that a manager should provide. I brought over 30 people that night, and am in shock at how they were treated. All of them complained about being asked to pay extra for certain bottle beers, even though the package I had included all bottle beers. I am highly disappointed and will never be returning.

Fun, Trendy atmosphere: Friendly staff & stiff drinks!!

by hopu

When my friends and I were invited to a party at Spoon last weekend, we did not know what to expect. It had been over a year since our last time there, and I have to say : I was pleasantly suprised. The crowd was attractive, the drinks were strong, and the staff were extremely hospitable. I would definately reccommend this upbeat lounge to anyone in search of a good time! I will be the first one in line when they open the outdoor patio this summer. A+

Pros: Service, scene, drinks

Had a blast!!!

by david828

Sat afternoon I went to the best party in Old Town. My friends and I were hanging out at the Old Town Art Fest and walked by a kick butt party. We deceided to check it out and the next thing I knew it was dark. The patio was decorated in a luau theme and they had pitchers of vodka lemonades and mojitos. We just sat at a table and the next thing we knew we had lots of new friends and even tossed a few games of Bago. As always I had a blast at Spoon.

Pros: excellent service and staff

Cons: none

Spoon Needs To Come Down To Earth

by mmcdonough5

My friends and I walked up at 1:30am on a sat without a single person in line or in the bar. The doorman wouldn't let any of us in unless we paid a measly $5.00. The pathetic attempt at a cover charge would have been more tolerable if they made it $10 or $15 dollars since Spoon is no where near a bar that actually has a following or any clout in Chicago nightlife. After being happily admitted into clubs like Reserve and Rino on the same night for no charge at all, our "neighborhood" bar obviously had a case of a big ego that was completely undeserved. I'll never go back and neither should you.

Pros: None

Cons: Pretensious, Rude, Empty

Perfect Blend

by davethetruth

Spoon is a perfect blend of a trendy lounge and a neighborhood bar. Some of the people there are very dressed up while others are wearing jeans and T-Shirts. Its unpretentious and nice at the same time. I wish there were more bars in Chicago with Spoon's atmosphere without the attitude.

The bar does tend to usually have a line, but I would rather go to a place that people want to go to instead of a dead bar on a saturday night.

I have been to Spoon many times and haven't had any problems with the service or staff.

I give this bar my full endorsement.

Pros: great crowd, great food, fair drink prices

Get A Clue

by mharri05

Whoever hires the people working in Spoon needs to get a clue. The staff is inconsiderate and rude. With all the other great places to eat and drink in Old Town, this one is best avoided.

Cons: Bad Service, Bad Service, Bad Service

The food was okay the drinks were good, but the service was horrible. Definetely would not go back ever. The staff needs to realize that they are there to make this a pleasurable visit not a nightmare. Went with friends to celebrate B-Day and was shocke at how rude and inconsiderate the staff was.

Pros: martinis, parking

Cons: Staff, Staff, Staff

Great food. Horrific service

by fashionmaven

This place needs to educate its staff to the fact that the customer is not an inconvenience, but their sole purpose for existing. A friend and I went on a Wednesday evening which means we should have been treated like royalty since the place was not crowded, but we weren't. The doorman was blaise at best, the host staff must be completely blind since they acted as though they didn't see us and the waitress was just an airhead. I will never go back again.

Pros: Excellent food

Cons: Music too loud, Too smokey, Horrible service

Boring

by SMM

This place is really overrated. It's always too packed...always too young...and there is always a line. Save your time, go somewhere a little less trendy.
