we had a great time! 
ok, gals and guys, i am staying in the chicago area for several weeks... and we had an opportunity to stay in both W's.
l really loved staying lakeshore. soft sheets, yummy beds, great design...
bad side... we were near an elevator.. and boy could you hear the conversations... not nice.. and we were about 4 doors down.. can you imagine being even closer?
let me make sure it is clear.. the restaurant was great and the service even better.
keep that up!
good luck and i suggest staying there, just not as close to the elevators.. (i think that should be a pre-req. for all great travelers)

Excellent! 
We stayed here and were very pleased with the service and our room. The room was very nicely decorated and spacious. Best of all we had an awesome view of Lake Michigan from our window. What's more, it's right on Lake Shore Drive so we were within walking distance of just about anything we could want!

Great Chicago Hotel!
This is such a great/trendy and nice hotel in Chicago! Great location and views and fun bar on the top floor! The staff was amazing and our room was one of the "coolest" rooms I've been in at a hotel! The bed was so comfortable--I didn't want to leave! Worth it's price!

wow!!!
The W hotel is located right in the middle of the Chicago city. It is near all the famous locations. Its walking distance to Navy Pier, the Water Tower shopping mall, and the Buckingham Fountain. The W hotelhas to be the best hotel in Chicago. Just from the exterior you can see how amazing it is. The hotel shines at night in blue lights!

A Great Place for Young Out of Towners
This place is very hip and trendy. There are a lot of extras in the room so that you can take the Ian Schrager lifestyle with you when you leave. I can't give it 5 star though b/c when I compare it to the 4-seasons and Ritz, there are just so many little details that are better. It may be too trendy for some of the older generations. However, I would absolutely recommend it to most staying in the city as the entertainment downstairs is great! Nice hotel bars. A totally trendy place.
PROS: Trendy scene, great energy
CONS: Too many people at times

Beautiful
This is a gorgeous hotel located in downtown Chicago. The architecture of the building is modern both inside and out. The hotel is classy and hip. There is a dj playing music and it has a lounge-like feel. My friend has thrown several parties here. There is also a heated area just outside the lobby.

Comfortable Hotel
This is a great, very cool hotel. This is a "can't miss" even if to stop by and look at the lobby area. This part of the city shuts down after work is over so it is quiet at night. You have to walk a few blocks for shopping and food, but the El stop is right there. The hotel lobby has a Dj spinning music and is a great spot to have a few drinks with friends.

Superb!
This is a really nice hotel located right in the heart of the city, All the rooms have a great view. The hotel has a really sophisticated atmosphere with great service. I definitely felt great staying here!

nice place, but not the best
I've stayed at the W and have been there for parties many, many times for work and social. I feel like they are really consistent with their service (overall), but I feel like they hire the best looking people too. Is it just me? My girlfriends and I are obsessed with this one bartender that works there. Also, I think it's a great place to network professionally in the city. I've been in about 4 of their suites and they are nice, but I've been in nicer. Overall, I would recommend this place.

Trendy
The hotel is in a perfect location and is the definition of trendy. You feel like a million dollars when you are there, even if it is just for one night. The bar on the top floor is quite small however.
Pros: outstanding views from both sides

One of the best hotel experiences ever, just love it there, friendly staff, upscale hotel without the stuffiness, great views, and within walking distance to Navy Pier, and other great places

Wonderful!
Expensive=Yes...Worth It=Absolutely....Stayed there 2 nights during my trip to Chicago (should have spent the whole trip there)...The W chain succeeds once again with this oasis on Lake Michigan. The lake view room has quite possibly the best view in the city with perfect views of the sunrise, the lake, and Navy Pier. Friendly, courteous staff caters to every need. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the room is the bathroom (windows into the room)...strange, but fun...and fun is the word when staying here. Definitely recommended.

The WORST ever
Took over 3 hours to check in. The room was crappy. The service was worse. The restaurant is awful. DON"T STAY HERE!!!!!
