The Scene
Handsome and serene, this dining oasis near Woodfield Mall is clubby but not macho, refined but not stuffy. Savvy servers do the whole meat-tray thing, and background jazz (live on Thursday, Friday and Saturday) helps guests relax amid the upholstered dark wood booths and dramatic drapery. An inviting lounge completes the scenario.

The Food
The classic steakhouse fare stars prime beef and fresh seafood, with some twists like pork chops in a blueberry-bourbon sauce and grilled Alaskan king salmon. The wonderful beef menu has a cut for every carnivore's taste. Juicy, slurpy-good oysters Rockefeller are highlights, and plump shrimp cocktail is just right. The menu satisfies steakhouse expectations with favorites like Caesar salad, twice-baked potato and creamed spinach.

Key Points

  • Private Parties
  • Prime Beef
  • Award Winning Steaks

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Live music is featured five nights per week, with keyboard-vocalist Tue-Wed 7:30pm-10:30pm and jazz trio Thu-Sat 8:30pm-11:30pm.
  2. Know Before You Go - Call to reserve prime rib. They roast the expected number of racks for five hours--and when they're gone, they're gone.
  3. Where to Sit - The cozy fireside room is the place to be in the wintertime. It seats 75 people, and is one of the most requested spaces in the restaurant.
  4. What to Drink - The award-winning wine list includes more than 200 bottles ranging from $30-$210, plus a higher-end reserve list. About 30 wines by the glass, too.

Ratings_icons Best steakhouse!!!

It took one visit to Chicago Prime Steakhouse and it already became my favorite restaurant in the suburbs. Beautiful on the outside and captivating and elegant on the inside. Excellent food, so far my favorite is the macadamia encrusted halibut and their chopped chicken salad. Not a big steak fan, but I've had the New York once and it was excellent. The owner personally made a visit at our table to make sure that everything was fine and to our expectations. We were wowed by the service. Beautiful and mature crowd, would highly recommend it to all steak lovers. Great place for a special

Rare steaks done well !!

In the tradition of great Chicago dining, the highly acclaimed Chicago Prime Steakhouse brings back unique, comfortable ambience and succulent flavor to their newly located restaurant at 1444 East Algonquin Road in Schaumburg (Northeast corner of Algonquin and Meacham in the new lifestyle center called Shoppes at Prime Village). Doors officially open for steak and wine enthusiasts on Friday January 16th, 2009.

If Chicago Prime Steakhouse feels like coming home there is a reason. George Kalkounos, owner, has been serving the finest cuts of beef to the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago for more then 40 years; he was one of the original owners of the old Prime Table Restaurant in Rolling Meadows. Our melt-in-your-mouth prime aged steaks are the best in the business and our wild seafood is never more than 48 hours out of home waters, says George. I am very particular about the quality I buy and how it is handled and prepared. In fact, I cut my own meats in my kitchen.

Drinks are generous and smartly mixed. Everything has been carefully prepared to offer an exceptional urban dining experience right here in Schaumburg, IL.

Giving you the warm feeling of home, Maggie Kalkounos, Georges wife, collaborated on the design of the Chicago Prime Steakhouse with Pat Marzullo of Architectural Environments of Elk Grove Village.

Ratings_icons THEY'RE BACK!!!!

Ron A.

I found out a few weeks ago that this great steakhouse is back on the radar, open for business at their new location, which according to their website is 1444 E Algonquin, Schaumburg.

I simply cannot wait to return! The same person that let me know of this great news also told me that the executive chef from Mon Ami Gabi is working there now. I am planning on visiting real soon. I read their menu online and my mouth was watering.

They were absolutely first class in their previous location so this is really great news (well, for me-- ha ha)
I was a regular there in the past, visiting twice a month at least with my clients, and I was truly treated like gold.

This place is a great choice if you're craving some major meat. The waitstaff is all dressed as butchers, and they bring out samples of each cut for your choose from. The steaks are grilled at super-hot temps that make for a crusty outer layer with a moist inside. If you're looking for a well-rounded meal, this might not be place for you - but don't get me wrong, the steak is awesome. I actually tried the tilapia as well, and that was also fantastic. Sides come in large amounts at an extra cost, but these are great additions if all beef is more than you can handle.

Ratings_icons 40th bday celebration

enigma12

Hi there - I celebrated my 40th bday there with close friends. He had a WONDERFUL TIME. Great service and excllent food! The Prime Rib was the best I've ever had and I've dined at the best rated Steakhouses inthe city. Gibson, Capital Grille, Magnums, Rosebud, Chop House, Gene's. We had drinks and gathered in the bar lounge while waiting to be seated and we had so much fun. I don't remember the bartenders name, mike or bob or something, he was hysterical and told us how much HE loved working there. So that says a lot about the place. I had the best birthday in forever there and the staff all came and sang to me. I think the entire restaurant knew it was my birthday cause even the host wished me well when I passed the front desk. It was really busy though so I don't think I'd just show without a reservation. my boyfriend also got kind of jealous with all the cute guys in the bar trying to buy me drinks. Too bad. haha I am going back for sure

Ratings_icons Exceptional Service and Superb Food!!

goodthingscome

I am eagerly awaiting the return of Chicago Prime Steakhouse. Although I travel the country often, it is rare to find a restaurant that has it all the way Chicago Prime did. Each time that I thought I had had my best meal there, my next visit to Chicago Prime would thrill me all over again. I love and know good food and their meals were a feast for my taste buds. When you get that AND impeccable service all delivered in the most beautiful, warm and romantic environment, it just doesn't get any better. I heard that there is a possibility that a new Chicago Prime may open and I just cant wait! There are so many friends that I have recommended Chicago Prime to who had not yet tried it. I'm thrilled that they may be able to partake in the experience soon. I hope all of you will do the same.

Ratings_icons Best steakhouse ever! I can't wait until the Chicago Prime re-opens again in Schaumburg!

Sophia2011

I dined at the Chicago Prime Steakhouse, just before they closed and changed it too Rosebud. I had a great experience here, the prices were easy on my budget and the food was amazing. This place had a wonderful ambiance and a friendly staff as well. The service was prompt and efficient as it coulod ever be. The food was delicious, I had the ladies cut fillet which was the best-tasting steak I ever had. I can't wait until the Chicago Prime reopens again, it is and will always be my favorite place to dine in Schaumburg.

Pros: Ambience, Food, valet parking

Ratings_icons Gave up on the place

nwburbsguy

After reading all these recommendations, my GF and I decided to try it for New Years Eve. We had reservations for 6 PM, but didn't get seated at our booth by the front door until almost 6:30. My GF asked if me if the booth was acceptable and I hesitantly said it was fine. The maitre d' butted in and claimed it was all they could do on NYE. Nice comment a-hole. Our waiter did not see us for over 10 minutes and when he did, he just said "Can I take your drink order?" Gee thanks, but since we hadn't seen a drink menu we declined and left the place. We did see the food menu, which had 2 troubling notes. 1. "Horseradish and other sauces were $3". and 2. "Please be considerate of other diners. " How cheap of a "Prime Steakhouse" to charge for horseradish on a $40+ steak. And how about the wait staff be attentive to me if they want me to be considerate of other diners, whatever that means. We were really looking forward to this place, but left without even a drink. I'll stick to Mortons.

Pros: None

Cons: Crappy service. Reservations were useless.

Ratings_icons Great steak!!

Chicago Prime is a great resteraunt for a special occassion or a special date. The Filet was absolutely outstanding - melt in your mouth - and done to perfection. It has been a long time since I tasted a steak that good. Old time, aged beef just isn't done much anymore. The sides are to be shared -- they aren't meant to be single serving.

The meal was outstanding and the service was prompt. It was worth every penny and I would go back again anytime.

Pros: excellent entrees

Cons: nothing

Great date joint. Whether you've been dating the same girl for years or it's a first date, this is the spot. Classy bar, fun bartenders (Bob used to pitch for the White Sox) and live jazz every night. The steak was fantastic and the wine list was simple to understand and seemingly well priced. The service was friendly and fun. Our waiter, Arian, was attentive and funny. The biggest thing that made us feel comfortable was the ambiance. Dark lights, comfortable booth, candles everywhere. My girlfriend and i will be back. Well worth a visit.

Pros: Ambiance, steak, service

Cons: NOT ONE...

rnk99999

My review is short and sweet.... If you want steak that melts in your mouth like cotton candy, this is your place! This place is soooo good that they can take something as simple as a beefsteak tomatoe and make it taste like something you have never eaten before and can't wait to get more! Dine here you won't regret.

Pros: Great food Great service. Fair priced!

Cons: Not really for kids. Did not see any there.

Ratings_icons Not that good

jpkeller55

I find this restaurant to be very disappointing. Food is average at best for a restaurant that uses the word Prime in it's name. Service by wait staff was mediocre. For the money, there are plenty of other steakhouses in Chicago that beats this one. Wildfire down the street has comparable food but much better wait staff and more economical if that interests you.

Ratings_icons Great food- ill take it to go.

howeclectic

The food is on par with ruth chris's, wildfire, myron and phils, and stoney river. We made reservations for 7:00 pm- we were'nt seated until 7:40. Complained to the manager who cited bad weather as the reason (and offered us free appetizers). My brother worked at "L Woods" for years noted a screwup like this at their resturaunt would have resulted in half the check being Comp'd. This leads me to believe where other establishments find this kind of treatment of their customers unacceptable.. this place feels its how you "treat the cattle". Drink orders took 20 mins to deliver. Waiter serving wine identified our wines as "red wines". (didnt know what he was serving and if it was correct). The waiter skipped taking my girlfriends food order. for the 10-20% of a $500 check you'd expect more from a waiter . The only nice thing was the excellent food.

Pros: Great Food, Extensive wine list

Cons: worthless reservation, Pretentious service, Bad service

My wife and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary tonight at Chicago Prime. The wait staff was very attentive and the manager, Stelio, was warm and personable. WE skipped the appetizer and we both had the prime rib which was fabulous. She had the side of mashed sweet potato and I had the large baked potato as my side. I think we'll share the side dish next time as the portions were quite large. Our total bill was around $100 including tip (and no alcohol). We will definitely visit again the next time we're in town. Highly recommended.

Pros: Management, Steak selection

Cons: Pricey

We stumbled upon this steakhouse and were thrilled with the results! The filet mignon absolutely melts in your mouth and goes perfectly with the extensive wine list. Although our server was a bit pretentious, the manager more than made up for it- he was personable and friendly! Expect generous portions that are worth every penny!

Pros: Great Parking, Excellent Steaks, Friendly Management

This place is good eating. If you don't know nobody elses place, go here. The waitresses are A1 hotties and the food is downright tasty. They don't take food stamps(we found out the hard way), but we liked it anyway.

Pros: good eats

this would be the london broil. It was the worst meal we have ever tasted. The menu stated marinated in jack Daniels/brown sugar. The waiter said it was in brandy then another waiter came back and said no it was as stated on the menu. Now to me marinated means the meat sits in the juice/liquid. When served it was rare as it should be. But it was drowning in a thick sweet jelled goo that had no flavor. the waiter saw a bite taken from the plate and asked 'do you want a box' - amazing he get it.
My partner did have the prime rib and it was wonderful.

Pros: good parking, nice seating

Cons: waiter knowledge

Chicago Prime Steakhouse is a very beautiful steakhouse. I brought my date on Friday Night. We had a booth. Still Very Noisy though. Our server was very proper and polite. Way too pushy about eating trying to get us to order too much. The Filet Mignon was excellent. Large Sides we shared: Sauteed Mushrooms and Double Baked Potatoe. Didn't like the Potatoe. The Hess Select White Wine was good. No Dessert, too full. I didn't like how another server took care of our bill. He put a bad taste in my mouth when he didn't want to accept a $20 gift card that they sent me in '04. There was no Expiration date on it. In the end he honored it.

Pros: Steak, Wine, Buss Boys, Hosts

Cons: , Servers

This is the finest establishment that my wife and I have ever frequented. The management was uncommonly kind and personable, our 2 year old son was perfectly at home and there were many options for him on the menu with very reasonable prices. This is the first restaurant in which I have felt perfectly comfortable while enjoying an exquisite meal. The staff was exceptional and the service was fantastic. My family has since been back seven times in the past two months and it is our new favorite place to dine.

I am not a local I am from New York City. I come here for business. I have traveled to many parts of the US and by far Chicago Prime Steak House is the highest quality Steak House in the US! Peter Luger's, EB Greens, Smith & Wollensky Steak House, Morton's Steak House, Ruth Chris, Magnums, Palm, Dylan Prime, The Chop House all must learn many things from Chicago Prime. The original Prime Rib "Maggie's Cut" is amazing. They have a wonderful selection of meats, seafood and a delightful selection of LARGE sides. The breading pudding is an absolute must it's not your typical sliced portion of bread pudding. The service is so perfect you think you are dreaming. Tell Stellio (Your Host) that Walter from New York sent you WB

Pros: Food Quality, Overall Service, Dinning Value
