Just went to Rockland Tire for tires and suspension work. The overall service was very good and they the price and time estimates were in line with what they said it would be. They did tell me I needed some other work done and I usually don't like that but, they presented it more like a suggestion for the future than trying to pressure me into doing the work.

The one star is too much. This place sucks. If you see any review which mentions the "service" with "fair price", be sure that it's the owner reviewing himself. I've never been big on reviews but the negative experience and the explicit reference to having "plenty more customers to be bothered worrying about my business" pushed me to this point.

For what they promised was a 90 minute job, they took nearly five hours and charged almost 30% more than their quote (which I was foolish enough not to have had them write down before taking the vehicle in, having trusted they would abide by it).

Fast service, friendly staff, good prices. Paid the same amount for a complete tire replacement, including labor, that I would have paid through a wholesale website (and still would have needed to install on my own). Not sure what the negative reviews here are about, maybe previous ownership, because my experience was pleasant, and I'd definitely recommend this shop.

It was very refreshing to go into an auto repair shop and not get taken advantage of. I came in with my 2001 Tahoe, my engine light was on and I had to get to work. They took the time to bring me to work and pick me up. They diagnosed my vehicle promply and were very friendly and helpful. I felt comfortable having my work done here and my car is now running great. So very helpful.

DO NOT GO HERE. I can't emphasize it strongly enough. I've had two very bad experiences at Rockland Tire, both with old and new management. It's a bad, bad place.

A couple of years ago I took my car to Rockland Tire for a new muffler, and after they installed it, they said it wasn't the specific muffler we had agreed to, but an 'upgraded' one. Because I was in a jam and had to take the car, I said yes. The muffler has turned out to be terrible; it's extremely loud and makes driving the car a noise-filled experience. I complained but they refused to replace it. It's been a couple of years on, and I'm probably going to replace it with a quieter muffler, sooner than I'd need to. So I'm paying for it twice. Thanks Rockland Tire.

I should have learned my lesson after that but stupidly, I had them replace the tires on my car last year. (They're close to my house so against all reason I guess I was hoping with new management they would be more honest.) I have an unusual car, a fairly rare old van, and they installed tires without the proper load rating. I'm not a tire expert (you would think A TIRE PLACE would be!), and I only learned the wrong tires were put on when I took the car to an independent mechanic (an honest one in case you're wondering, ID Autoservice in Gurnee) who alerted me to it. Not only that, but this new mechanic told me the tires Rockland put on were actually much older than when I had them put on, so Rockland installed out of date tires that weren't right for my car. So again, I had to pay for four new tires though the tires weren't worn out (they were only installed a year ago). Again, thanks Rockland Tire.

Long story short, don't go here. Old or new management, Rockland Tire is bad bad news.

I brought my car for tire replacement on 9/1/2010.
I took my car there because this shop specialize in tires!!!
During this service my car wheels were badly damaged.
I have larger tires at the back and smaller at the front.
They mounted 2 large on one side and 2 small on another!!!
Manager Butch Kosoi verbally admitted that damaged was made by one of his employees.
I offered them to repair this damage ?? manager said that owner refuses to do anything about it.

I would advice to go somewhere else for any type of service.

Because of Rockland my 7,000.00 car is ruined. I went to their shop as my oil light was on. I said run any tests and do what it takes to fix & find the problem. After 90.00 they said, basically, the light is not working or I just need premium oil, but either way I can keep driving with the light on until my next oil change unless the check engine light comes on. Well, a week later the car is in the VW shop as it is stalling and running loud. Turns out I needed a new oil pump and because they did not fix it the engine has been running without oil and now has no oil pressure. The engine, then, is ruined.

I went to Rockland and relied upon them to do their basic job - proactively identify problems and fix them before they cause permenent damage to the car, and, of course, keep me from driving an unsafe car which they had me do. If they had done what other mechanics tell me is a basic response to the situation I presented I would have got a 500 dollar bill and a fine car instead of a car with a ruined engine. Worse, they had not problem having me leave with an unsafe car

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and it's nice to have a local repair shop nearby. I have been a customer for several years and was treated with couresty and in a timely manner. Most recently, I had a large repair where the manager communicated with me promptly regarding all repairs I needed and showed me exactly what was wrong. It was the best service since I've been going there.

I personaly have nothing but great things to say about rockland auto. It may be hard to understand but to find the problem on thousands of makes and models of cars is very difficult and takes REAL experance. This is where a dealer usualy has an advantage generaly they work on the same makes of cars. As for the comment that had the water pump was replaced with the timing belt ,this is a standard on some modles if you timing belt went out your water pump will soon follow and guess what will need to replace your timing belt again??. As for what you were told by others they didnt do the job. Its sad that busnesses like these dont back each other up ,but the reason for it is they want your busness the next time and they will get it any way they can in times like these. Oh have you been to an auto parts store? How much is antifreze? Did you know that a busness cannot keep the lights on without a 50% mark up? The price you stated is right there (fair wether you want to beleive it or not) wonder what they would charge at a dealer? I would and have trusted my baby 2004 mustang gt with a kenne bell blower 12 second car to the head mech/manager Ian. Long befor I would let ANYONE else touch it(even the dealer). As for the servicerighter Butch He has been known but somewhat incompetdent when it come to commuacation with your cars status so if you want the real deal you may want to ask to speak to Ian (but he is often very busy and will return you call. Its difficult to try to do two ppls job and still be GREAT at his. Sorry about the spelling (theres no spell check).

In brief, the best service with a fair price. They were able to fix my car where 3 other shops were unable. It's nice to know I have a place to go now.

Very dishonest repair center. Performed unauthorized work on my vehicle, and then charged me extra "storage fees" when I went to pay for the work I requested. The car was not drivable when they were through. I had it towed from their lot as they were threatening even more storage fees. Please avoid this shop.

I was sent to Rockland Tire from AAA. My car stalled on the RT 176 ramp entering 94 and I called AAA and they said that the closest AAA approved station was Rockland Tire. Rockland Tire said that I had a bad battery and that it would be $195. I thought that it was expensive but what could I do. When I went to pick up the car (we waited at Silo - awesome pizza) they said that my starter was fried and that I could pick up my car the next day. I asked them to change my oil and I would get my car the following day. I paid just under $600 and drove it home the next day. The following morning I warmed up my car and it made a funny noise but then it went away. I started driving and my oil light came on. I call Butch at Rockland Tire and he said that I needed to reset my oil light. I said that has never happened before. About two minutes later my car died. I called Rockland and they sent a tow truck to pick up my car. I never received a phone call but when I showed up to THE WORST REPAIR SHOP IN THE WORLD they said that my engine block was cracked and my car is ruined. They then started saying how it was Chrysler's fault and I was out of luck. I am convinced that THEY FORGOT TO PUT THE OIL BACK IN THE CAR!!!!
IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS PLEASE LET ME KNOW

I brought my vehicle into rockland in November 2008 for new tires. I was given a quote that was far less than sears and other shops. I waited in a clean shop an enjoyed fresh coffee and cookies while I waited. The staff was friendly and finished my vehicle in a timely manner. I will definitely come back to rockland. Thanks guys.

I had an emergency situation that turned out badly with Rockland Tire. My car just stopped pulling into Highland Park Hospital. I sent my teen in to see the doctor as she was having a reaction to medication. AAA came out and told me that they'd take me to a really good, honest auto repair place because I'd be ripped off in Highland Park (I live in Chicago). I had no choice but to send my car off and go in to be with my child. The one phone call I got in the afternoon informed me that my timing belt was broken and the car would be fixed the next day. Came back the next day after renting a car to a $984 bill--including 2 gallons of antifreeze at $17 each, windshield wipers at $15 each, and a new water pump despite the fact that my regular mechanics looked at the old one and said it was working fine. At minimum if someone had called me and tried to tell me I needed all this stuff I could have said no--but they just did it. The only conclusion I can draw is that they saw an opportunity and took it.

Rockland Tire & Auto really came through for me in a pinch one day. My car broke down in Waukegan, IL on the Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday and it sounded really bad, like the transmission was grinding. I had AAA tow it to a shop nearby. Well, it turned out the shop was closed when the tow truck driver got me there, probably due to the long holiday weekend. The driver was nice enough to recommend Rockland and he called them for me.

Chris, one of the owners came and got me in about ten minutes and towed my car to his shop. I thought it was going to cost me a fortune to have it fixed because of the grinding noise. Chris assured me the problem would not be that bade to fix, which was a relief! The problem was with a part that was not installed properly on a CV boot (front end axel) job I had done recently. It only cost a fraction of what I thought it would to fix the car. They could have had the car ready that afternoon, but I needed to get home so they even gave me a lift to the train station. I picked up the car the next day and they came and got at the train station again.

Chris and his mechanics really took care of me on that day and gave great service. I remembered them when I needed some struts put on the car and had it done at their shop.

I believe they do excellent work and found their store and work area to be neat and clean. I felt as if I was waiting at the Car Dealer and getting expert service, but not paying Car Dealer prices.

Thanks a lot, guys!
