This place has hands-down the best Reuben sandwich I've ever tasted. It is a tiny hole-in-the-wall deli though, so I'd recommend placing an order to go.

Everything from the bagels to sandwiches to Matzo Ball soup to blintzes is amazing. At times, the wait can be long...but I suppose you can say that is because they are making a good sandwich for you. The coldcuts are the best to take home. All in all, wonderful food and deli.

This place is great, especially because it is one of the few deli's in Chicago. The people are friendly, prices are good, and they pile the meat sky-high on their sandwiches. And, if you are looking for those fabulous blue-cheese stuffed olives, they have them there! I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a fresh, non-subway type sandwich.

Pros: price for what you get, friendly staff, casual atmosphere

Cons: not many places to sit during the winter

The Scene
Though there are a handful of tables in the small wood-paneled room and on the enclosed outdoor patio, Ashkenaz does mostly on-the-go business--particularly in the morning, when white-collar types and Gold Coasters step…
