If you go here expecting Vegas with free drinks for playing cheap slots--think again. I used to actually enjoy the times I'd go with my brother-in-laws to the boat--when it was actually a boat that went up and down the river---it was a great deal! now--anchored in downtown Alton, it can be depressing unless you like the tables and relatively high stakes (for me). I'd rather go to Vegas if I'm losing money!

The Alton Belle Casino is a nice gambling boat. It offers plenty of slots and gaming tables. One advantage is that is not as crowded as the St. Louis boats. Restaurants are nice, food is good, and they have a variety of entertainment. My husband and I go here at least 6 times a year and always enjoy our visits.

The Alton Belle Casino is a bit out of the way for most people and as such tries a bit harder to bring in and retain customers. I personally don't see a reason to drive so far (for me) there as I go for the entertainment value only and not really to gamble. Some of the other places are larger and flashier and have more entertainment. True gamblers may know if the odds are more favorable here but I don't know. The gambling areas are smaller than other places but you get the local feel.

This is my favorite casino in the St. Louis area. I have been to all of them. I like playing the slots and have won more money here than any of the rest. The Alton Belle is roomy and their staff is great. I have never had to stand in line long to board. They also offer great buffets, have off track betting on the horses and live bands.

This is a very big and very nice casino boat. Every single time I have been here I have seen people hit soeem big jackpots which I cannnot say that about the rest of our casinos here. It seems allot looser and it is always very clean inside and out
PROS: lots of winners big clean casino
CONS: none

This is with out a doubt the worse tightest casino in the St Louis Area and include Iowa in that. I have spent 400 dollars there in less than an hour there the last 5 times I went on penny and nickel slots. Playing the min bet on all of them. Not sure why they are so tight there but you can even enjoy an evening there. Your out of money before you get warmed back up from being outside.
Pros: You can park close because no one is there
Cons: You will loose all your money in less than an hour being there
If you spend time on the Alton Belle and enjoy yourself your really should consider being a nursing home worker. You will be around the same kind of people, get use to oxygen masks and wheel chairs and toddering elderly. The place is dank and stuffy and depressing and aside from the elderly there is a handful of desperate looking scary people. I was there twice and hated it. It's like going to your grandpa's basement and playing a slot machine.
Pros: it's close by
Cons: dreary, depressing, very old gamers, stinks
I guess my headline says it all. I totally understand that typical 'casino people' are heavy smokers and complaining about inhaling second hand smoke in a casino is like going to a bar and complaining about the drunks .... but .... this place takes the cake. The stench in the parking lot alone should be a warning. Also, be prepared to literally rub elbows with (the place is very congested and claustrophobic) the lowest class of people you can imagine. I'm talking beer chugging obese women in housedresses and slippers, local farmers still wearing their overalls, and of course the usual welfare recipients from 'da hood' who have no business whatsover blowing their rent money in a casino. Trust me, you have to see this place to believe it.
