Taco Mex has the best fresh tamales that I've had the priviledge of eating in a long time. I would recommend to others.

If you are looking for delicious tamales, menudo o carne en su jugo this is the place. The best time is on Sunday mornings and it's affordably priced. This is the place for tamales of rajas de chile con queso.

I've been enjoying the Menudo & Tamales from this family restaraunt since it first opened as a hot dog stand a half a block away over 20 years ago. The menudo is the best I've ever tasted, as 'homemade' as you can find anywhere. And its restorative powers from late nights is a well earned reputation. Though the prices seem to be a bit high - the quality of this authentic soup & my favorite accompaniment, green tamales, is unsurpassed anywhere except in it's sister restaraunt in Indiana. Though the surrounding area is a somewhat depressing (The shuttered Wisconsin Steel Works) I find myself traveling from the heart of the city to enjoy some authentic food at least once a month.
The 'Carnita' breakfast (fried pork) is also worth the drive.

Pros: Great Menudo, Tamales, Carnitas

Cons: Depressing Neighborhood
