1 Stars: We wanted a deep tissue, not a deep bone marrow massage (by Thaicharm7)

I decided to book a deep tissue couples massage for Sweetest Day. I was excited since I read great reviews and also had a $45 gift certificate I wanted to use. So come massage time, the "therapists" (Mantino and I failed to catch the African American lady's name) brought us to a small room where they had us disrobe in the room, no robes, no flip flops. They asked us where our problem areas were. I told them mine were my shoulders and upper back including the neck area, and my boyfriend's was kinda everywhere, but especially the back. So they began the massage with us face down and a hospital sheet over us. Mantino begins right away pressing his elbows and forearms into my back. Not particularly in any muscle group, just into my back...which meant posterior ribs, spine, shoulder blades. I've a tendency to laugh sometimes when I'm in pain, and I started to kinda laugh uncomfortably. He asked if he should let up. I told him a little. He eventually proceeded to my legs where he was kneading my buttocks and upper thigh so hard with his knuckles and elbows that I let out another yelp because I felt like he was bruising me. Then when he got down to my calves, he was digging his fingers between where my calf muscle and bone meet. I kicked upwards this time to let him know he was hurting me, yet again. He did do a good job on my feet. He then asked me to turn over, but I asked that he worked longer on my back because he never got to any of my problem areas that they asked about. He told me it was my massage and he could spend the last 15 min on my back if I wanted. I told him I wanted at least another 5 min on my back, but I did want to flip over and get a whole body massage experience. He did better on my neck and back once I had to show him where. (He actually was massaging my muscles this time!) They also had to leave the room at one point because they forgot our eye masks. Little did I know until after the massage (and a $30 tip) that my boyfriend had similar issues, but his was worse. He told me that the woman did a great job with his legs, but he thought it was because they're mainly muscle. He said that the lady was also putting all of her weight in spots on his back that wasn't muscle. He felt like it was more of a "deep bone marrow" massage than a deep tissue. He never said anything while we were there because he felt bad that I had done such a nice thing. It wasn't until I put my arms around his shoulders later that he told me. Although the receptionist and the therapists were nice, I won't be returning. I've had deep tissue massages at many other hotels and spas in the states and in Asia and Europe. This might have been the worst massage I've ever received. $210 (sans gratuity) for a deep bone marrow couples massage could've been spent on a pain-free nice dinner somewhere, or a real spa treatment elsewhere.

After having a horrifying 'spa day' at another spa I decided that I needed to have a make up day. I decided to go back to the place I went with my first pregnancy multiple times...Lincoln Park Massage Spa. And I wasn't disappointed. The massage was awesome, and Kim, my therapist was very attentive, checking in ever so often to see if the pressure was right ect. I left the massage feeling the way you are supposed to, relaxed and rejuvinated. I am all for trying different spas out but after spending so much and being so disappointed at the other spa, I won't make that mistake again. Every massage I have had at LPMS has fully been to my standards and I will definitely be going back

Both my wife and I had massages here. My massage was fine but it was the kind of place where you disrobe in the room...no locker rooom. I purchased my wife a prenatal package and she was disgusted. They parrafin hand treatment leaked all over the floor and she felt as if the person working with her had never done it before. Again, her massage was just average. when the manager was contacted, there was little compensation or concern.

Very friendly staff. I only got a 30 minute massage but it was so relaxing and enjoyable. I definitely plan on going back for a full hour. I have received many massages in the past and this was with out a doubt one of the best.

I started going to Lincoln Park Massage while recovering from surgery following a skiing accident. The message therapist had experience with skiing injuries and followed up on my physical therapist direction to speed my recovery after 5 months on crutches. Fabulous, concentrated massage helped my recovery!!

I was having some back and neck pains from workouts and needed some relief - I went here and walked out feeling 110 percent! I went for an hour long massage and I cannot wait to go back. As soon as I walked in I felt so relaxed. The atmosphere is great and everyone was so friendly. I will be scheduling another appointment very soon! I'd recommend going here to anyone. I've gotten other massages before but none were as good as the one I got at LP.

Lincoln Park Massage Spa was fantastic. I got a Swedish Massage from Donna, who talked to me beforehand to ask me about any trouble spots, medical conditions, etc. She made me feel very comfortable, and did wonders for my neck and back. She would periodically check in with me to make sure that I was comfortable, but did not spend too much time talking to me (which was good so I could relax). The prices are reasonable -- especially for those on a student budget -- and the atmosphere was soothing. I highly recommend it!

I purchased a swedish massage for my boyfriend for Valentine's day. He was a little uncomfortable making the appointment because he was unsure if men visited the facility as often as women. He put it off for months!! He eventually found the time to schedule an appointment and since he had the massage, it is ALL is talks about!! He told me that it was the most relaxing experience of his life. In fact, he mentioned that it was the best gift I had ever purchased for him. I am so glad I decided to give this as a gift because it's one that you can never go wrong with.

Last time I got a couples massage, and the staff was very kind and very accommodating. They make sure you get exactly what you like. I asked for a deep tissue and my friend got a more soothing massage and we both came out very happy. And the atmosphere is very relaxing and personal- very professional but not too stuffy and not like those factory spas- (Mario Tricoci). Definitely recommended.

my friend and i went after running the chicago half marathon. it was our first visit and it was absolutely wonderful. the girl at the front desk was super friendly and accommodating. we loved the fact that the place was so intimate and quiet, very unlike many of the spas in the city, where you might be in the waiting room along with 10 other people. this was much more of a neighborhood place, with a great location right across from oz park. we were both quite sore from our run, and we had deep tissue massages. i asked for a good amount of pressure, and my masseuse focused on the areas that i had requested, and even offered suggestions on how i might minimize my soreness. the whole experience was very relaxing from start to finish, and exactly what we were looking for!

I thoroughly enjoyed my massage at this local spa. The ambience was very calming and it had a nice, private feel. My fiance took me there for my birthday gift and I was astounded at the service, and the massage was great! I felt GREAT for days after my massage! The service was fully catered! They took care of me from the time I came in the door until I had to leave! The massage therapist really targeted my sore muscles and gave for an EXTREMELY relaxing and indulging experience! I would recommend this spot to ANYONE! Whether you have a problem with your muscles or just want to relax for an hour, this is it!!! JUST TRY IT, you'll see for yourself!

The massage I got from Lincoln Park Massage Spa was just what I needed for my sore shoulders and back. The experienced hands of my massage therapist really worked out the tense muscles. The whole atmosphere was relaxing from the music to the cozy rooms. Everyone who worked there was also nice. Definitely worth going back there.

This spot is a lovely escape from the exhaustion of everyday life! From the moment I walked in, I felt relaxed and comfortable. I was offered tea upon arrival, and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and quaint feel of the spa.

I have been here multiple times, and have never left dissatisfied! The staff are friendly and the massages are excellent! My boyfriend and I experienced a couples massage for our last anniversary and couldn't have been happier! Great find!

From the moment you arrive you are able to forget the craziness of your day. After I walked through a beautiful gateway, I was offered tea and a warm eye pillow while I waited. I loved the fact that this is just a place for getting massages because I didn't have to walk through a brightly lite, loud hair salon. The massage was incredible. My therapist definitley knew what they were doing and most importantly I felt comfortable. I have tried a lot of places and this place is my favorite.

If there is one thing you want in a massage is to go to a place that won't stress you out being there- make sense? This place is it. You will start to relax as you approach the location. This facility is relaxing situated right across from Oz park. The people are friendly when you walk in the door and will help you to wind down from the day. I have not found this consistency with therapists at any other spa I have frequented. This makes the commute to the city worth it every time.

Finding a spa that you feel comfortable in is very important. You will find that at Lincoln Park Massage Spa. Their massage therapists are extremely professional and the lobby and receptionist is also very professional and warm. I would reccomend them out of all spas here in Chicago for a massage! I wont go anywhere else now that I have been there! :)

I stumbled across Lincoln Park Massage Spa and fell in love! I first had a swedish massage and it was incredible. Then for a treat, I bought a couple's massage for my boyfriend and I. He and I both agree it was one of the best couple's massages we've had to date! And you can't beat it for the price. Needless to say we've had a few more since then. The staff is young, courteous and professional; the oils they use are mildly fragrant and light in texture, not the typical greasy oils; the music was relaxing and the ambiance was peaceful. The whole experience was worthy of a great review! Way to go LPMS!!

I was so excited to find a spa so close to my home when I moved here, but I never expected it to be as nice as Lincoln Park Massage Spa! Each time I've gone has been a wonderful and relaxing experience. I even came in with an injury once, and the professional and knowledgable staff were able to treat my pain better than my doctor. My boyfriend will be having his first massage soon, and I wouldn't recommend his first experience to be anywhere else but here.

They have a wide variety of services, from regular massage to deep tissue. I thought their technicians responded to what I said and really addressed what I wanted. Additionally, it is not difficult to get an appointment as they have convenient hours. Also, I have never had trouble finding parking. They are always on time for appointments

I had a great experience at Lincoln Park Massage. I went for tightness in my back and got a sports massage. Turns out the tightness was caused by tightness in my chest. This was the first therapist ever to recognize this and treat me accordingly. I felt immediately relaxed upon entering the Spa. My treatment was on time and for the appropriate length of time. One downfall is that they don't have showers or a steamroom to relax in afterwards. Also, a great bonus for Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance holders - they give a 10% discount! I'd definitely go back.

I was able to enjoy the best pre natal massage ever. I was close to the end of my pregnancy and feeling very tired, bloated and just plain uncomfortable!!! LMP took all of that away. They were very accomodating from the receptionist to the therapist. I was able to relax and go into another world all my discomfort was gone after my service. And of course I'll be back after delivery.

Couldn't have asked for a better first-time experience. I'd never had a massage before so I wasn't sure what to expect. From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist and warm environment to the wonderful swedish massage I received, it was great.

Also, you can't beat getting a special coupon on your birthday!

Lincoln Park Massage Spa is great. I have been to a few places here in the city and have found them all to be only OK. I went to this spa and found it to be so relaxing and quiet. I had a fabulous massage (I think her name was Kate) and I didn't hear a sound the entire time which was so nice as I have been to many places where the lobby/hallway noise is ridiculous. I would highly recommend it, it is definitely going to be my go to place going forward.

Lincoln Park Massage Spa is awesome! The people are so friendly. I treat myself to a masage about 3 times a year. The whole building is relaxing and cozy. The masseurs are very professional. They ask questions and do everything they can to help you relax. I would definetly recommend it.

I've gotten two treatments from LPM and both of them have been fantastic. When you first get to the reception area they greet you and ask if you'd like a drink. They also have comfortable furniture to sit and relax while you wait for the theropist. The first treatment I got was a 30min swedish massage that was great. The rooms are all themed and the lighting and music are very relaxing. I was worried initially that since I am a larger framed guy that the therpist wouldn't be able to apply enough pressure, but after the first few minutes I realized that would be an issue. A cousin of mine told me that if I like massages I should definitely get a 90 min massage I would never go back. I have to say that after my second visit to LPM and getting the 90minute swedish he is definitely right. I once had a 60 min at a different spa and it seemed every bit of an hour, the 90 min from LPM seemed to last about 20 min it was so great and I didn't want it to end. I will definitely be going back to get another 90 and advise everyone else to do the same.

This is one of the best hidden gems that you can find in the city. By far the best massage that I have received in the city, better than some of the "fancier, big name" spas that I have been to in the past. Between my husband and I we have had about 6 different different people massage us and all have been fantastic. They really listen to what you have to say and have an amazing ability to correct issues that you weren't even aware of!

They couldn't have picked a better location and better service staff! Looking back, it's probably a reflection of how much I required that massage, but from the moment I walked in, I felt pretty relaxed...they do a great job of shutting out the outside world. It's pin drop silence. The masseuses are very well trained in several styles. I was asked what I wanted to get out of the massage and recommended the best style to achieve the required results. The masseuses check your level of comfort with the pressure applied and ask for feedback throughout the massage to ensure you are completely comfortable at every stage. The results were amazing! I recommend Lincoln Park Massage Spa very highly for the above reasons. A+++

I am relatively new to the city and my Mom was coming for a visit in March, and I thought it would be a great idea to get massages since it would be a 'girls weekend.' Through an online search and the great recommendations I found Lincoln Park Massage Spa, and couldn't have been happier. Not only was I able to get a reservation only a few days in advance for a Saturday afternoon, but I was able to get a couples massage so my mom and I could truly enjoy our time together.

My mom could not stop raving about the great massage (she loves a lot a pressure, not wussy massages where they just run fingers up and down your back) Mine was great too, I'm sure I dozed off b/c I was so relaxed! We both really enjoyed getting the heat wrap on our neck and lounged around afterward because we loved the tea and didn't want to go back out into the cold!

I'll be going back, my mom got me a gift certificate, and I'll save it for a rainy day for when I want to be pampered like a star!

I have been going to doctors for months trying to find out what is wrong with my back. As a last resort I thought I would try a massage. One massage from Lauren and I already feel better. It was the best massage! Lauren also took the time to show me some streatches to do on my own. I will be going back again for a second treatment. I will continue to go as they have friendly staff to greet you and nice area to wait in. The rooms are clean and decorated nicely. Tuesday will be my new favorite day!

My husband was kind enough to surprise me with a pregancy massage and foot treatment for mother's day. I was so excited upon arrival, and utterly disappointed and morever infuriated upon departure.
For starters, there was no relaxation room - you simply must wait in the receiption area. There isn't even an area to change (no robes, slippers, nothing)! You simply are asked to get undressed in the so called "thereapy room" which leads me to the further disappoints: a pregnancy massage with inadequate equipment to truly be called such, as there was no cut out for the belly. I was asked to lay on my side for 90 minutes -- well not exactly since the therapist actually cut my 90 minute massage by 20 minutes -- I guess he was as bored as I was irate! And maybe it's just common sence but I for one would think that they would ask my preference on male for female "therapist", if you can call him that. The massage was absolutely the worst I have ever had. It gets even worse, the foot treatment was no more than 10 minutes of him rubbing dry salt on my feet - no basin to soak in, nothing! I walked out of there with a backache and dried salt on me feet -- all for the not so bargain price of $165.00! They ended up not charging me for the foot treatment and my husband later called to request a full refund. Don't waste you time or money.

My massage therapist gave me a tremendous deep tissue massage, stripping through all the muscles that had been tight and bothering me. The staff is friendly and personable, they bring you tea and little foot wipes. Overall a great experience.

I got a massage here this past weekend and was very impressed with my therapist. She was great, PERFECT amount of pressure. My only complaint is that she didn't dim the lights during the entire massage which kept me a bit distracted. I didn't notice the dimmer switch or I would have asked her to turn the lights down. I recently took my wife to the Lincoln Park massage spa for a 90 minute prenatal massage - a birthday gift for my 36 week pregnant wife. The spa has a very friendly atmosphere. I sat in the lobby reading a book and chatting with staff while my wife had per massage - nice people, nice place I thought; I hope my wife enjoys the massage. She loved it. The swelling in her hands and feet was gone and she felt in heaven. thank you lincoln park massage. We will go back to try some of the weekend workshops on infant and couples massage.

My husband and I came for a couples massage last weekend and were completely blown away by the service. The receptionist greeted us by name as soon as we came in, and the whole atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The massages were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! We both left feeling totally refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the day. If all you're looking for is a steam room and sauna....go to your health club...If you want an unforgettable massage experience go here. We'll definitely be back!

Don't waste your money - there are so many better spas in Chicago. First of all, there were no slippers, tea or warm cloths. Can't believe they claim that. Secondly, the place looked like somone's apartment with overstuffed outdated leather couches and bright, nonsoothing/relaxing paint. The bathroom smelled and the decor in the massage rooms was something out of a 70's hotel. Lastly and hands down the most offensive, the massage therapist hardly acknowledged me as a client and did not ask one question about what type of treatment/pressure I prefer. When I explained during the massage what type of pressure I like - he ignored me! Didn't say anything and continued to use the same technique! I should have walked out. Oh even worse - his breath smelled like cigarettes when he massaged my neck. So disappointing. Don't know how they were voted the best of anything. The one thing that was pleasant was the polite front desk gal who took my appointment.

Lincoln Park Massage, is a very cute/comfortable place to get a massage!! Libby is by far the best person I have ever received a sports massage from. In past places I have either left a massage feeling like I just wasted my time and money or so soar I couldn't move for days. Libby provide a firm massage (getting all the knots out), yet doesn't feel like Olga from the old country who is clearly trying to break me!

I have severe knots that build up in my upper back/shoulders from typing on a computer all day as well as stress. Every time I leave LP Massage, it is almost euphoric. The spa itself is very soothing, quaint, and comfortable. Because of it's size, there are never a ton of people around which can take away from relaxing as in other bigger day spas. Every therapist that I have had there has been wonderful. Even spas that charge a lot more (e.g. Bliss at the W in NYC) do not compare. I wish I could afford to go here every week! It's been a lifesaver!

Best Massage ever! My friend gave me a gift certificate for my birthday. Agnes is wonderful. All of the therapists are so nice. If you want a massage without all the fuss and high end snooty-ness then this is the place. The setting is cozy and comfortable and you feel very welcome from the moment you enter.

I found Lincoln Park Massage Spa while trying to find a spa to take a friend for a prenatal massage. The front desk was very nice and the massages were fantastic! No one tried to sell us anything, although they were happy to answer any questions we had about the fabulous products they had for sale. This was the best massage I have ever had. I went a few hours after I ran a half marathon and the massage therapist did an amazing job of targeting the muscles that runners use and abuse most often. I felt so much better than I ususally do the day after a half marathon. It was also very relaxing. The little extras really made a big difference too. The massage therapist gave me streches to use at home and the ice pack over my eyes when I flipped from my stomach to my back was awesome! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Rebecca knows her stuff!! I was in a terrible accident in August of '05 and broke practically every bone in my body. I've been EXTRAORDINARILY tense and sore since. That is, until my session with Rebecca. She was gentle and yet still aggressive enough to take out all of my knots!!! She was very sweet and caring and even recommended me to a place for 3rd degree burn massages!!! I will have NO PROBLEMS returning to the Lincoln Park Massage Spa!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I just got back from my massage and have to say that Lauren did such a fantastic job! The girl has some strong hands! I am a hair stylist and needed a deep tissue massage. I have gone to other places and they did a decent job, but Lauren really got in there and worked most of the knots out. She'll probably need a massage herself after working on me! Good job, Lauren! For those looking for the one, this is it!. Imagine you are in Italy,France well, you get the picture. I love the entrance of this place. The gates, the greenery around the building. It made me feel I was in another country. Once you step inside, I felt right away the personal attention. I was greeted by the receptionist in a very warmth feeling. if you have ever been to some of these "glitsy" spas then you know "all that glitters isn't gold". this lp spa is among the best without all of the things you don't need when you come to get a good massage. and that means something coming from a person who usually goes for the shinny things. this place is great. i received personal service from their therapist. the lobby is very cozy, like home and each of their rooms has a different scenery to set the mood. of course there was herbal tea and a warm neck wrap while i waited. speaking of waiting that was a big surprise, as there was none. after i was given my treats, before i was done with my tea my therapist was there to take me back. i have gone there a few times since and have made this my regular spot.

I discovered the Lincoln Park Massage Spa while walking in my neighborhood and what a GEM. The front desk personnel gave me a tour of the rooms, explained the menu and booked my appointment very efficiently. When I returned for my appt. wow what customer service. I was offered a beverage and a warm herbal neck wrap to begin my relaxation. I was taken to one of their cute rooms called Desert Haze and it made me feel like I was in Scottsdale, AZ. I had a hot stone massage with Libby and it was heaven. The heat from stones warmed my body and Libby's massage was one of the best I've ever had. Since my first visit I've recommended Lincoln Park Massage Spa to numerous friends. All of them have had a fabulous experience. I'd like to keep this neighborhood spa a secret but I shouldn't be too selfish.

The staff at Lincoln Park Massage were beyond soothing. Once you arrived they pampered you right off the bat with your choice of tea and a warm, herbal neck pillow to melt away your stress. I was almost asleep before I even got in for my massage! Me and my boyfriend had a couple's massage which I strongly recommend for an intimate setting for couples. The massage was soothing and invigorating. They asked specific questions about tenderness in areas and the massage was perfectly fit to your comfort levels. My boyfriend was in heaven and I have to say so was I. I would for sure go back. It was quaint, comfortable, soothing, relaxing and amazing. Couldnt ask for more!

My fiance gets me a gift certificate for this spa for every Christmas and birthday because he knows how much I like it here. They offer so many great kinds of treatments, but I especially like the 30 min neck,back, and shoulder massage for a quick pick me up,and when I really want to relax I get the 90 min massage and sugar body scrub combo, so nice. The staff is very welcoming and makes me feel comfortable every time. I have worked with 4 different massage therapists thus far and can't pick a favorite because they have all been wonderful.
