I would go back and will go back for the halibut. Not many places in the city that serve it like they do.

i had the halibut, it was yummy. the lamb was awesome too.

The only thing I didn't like was the noise and seatings were really close to each other. I feel like I was eating with the two couples next to us. Haha.

Fantastic meal - each course was wonderful. If you're on a budget, definitely head on over for the $22 prix fixe 3-course lunch. My party of four tried each dish on the prix fixe menu and they were all beautifully presented. The sturgeon for my entree was a little overcooked, but in general, each dish was impeccably thought out and the details really made this place spectacular. They even brought us hooks for our purses so we could hang them on the table and not put them on the floor.

The restaurant is small, and almost a little too crowded. Service was slow and it took over two hours for us to finish our meal and I had an appointment that I was late to because of it. Servers were very nice though. The bread at the beginning of our meal was interesting, one rye and one multigrain, and I loved the housemade butter.

My dessert was my most interesting part of the meal - a baked brioche custard with pear consomme, streusel noisette, molasses tuile and chai sherbet. My family really enjoyed the manjari chocolate pave with pomegranates, crispy chocolate, lime salt and beet ice cream as well.

I asked the manager how often they change the prix-fixe menu and he said approximately every six weeks. I will be back in a month or so to try their new creations. I really love the uniqueness and exotic flavors that they use here at Blackbird. I really feel like I'm have a valuable and luxurious dining experience and the prices are very reasonable.

The sandwiches looked very good as well, and I may try one next time. I normally do not order sandwiches are restaurants because they are so ordinary, but these looked really special. Definitely worth trying.

I have been going here since they opened and liked it better then. Now, it seems like the servers have bad attitudes. The tables are so close together that it is hard talk privately. The wine list is way overpriced. I had a glass of wine that was not good and when I sent it back they treated me like I was crazy. The food is usually still pretty good but the attitudes need to change!

Pros: Trendy & good chef

Cons: Not so great service

Some of my friends recommended this restaurant but is was not a good experience. The service was poor and the food was terrible with the exception of the endive salad. As a main course I tried the "Black Bird" sandwich which consisted of a tiny piece of white fish on a soggy piece of toast served with some chips. The fish tasted like it had been marinated in spice mustard for 2 days. The worst part of the meal was the dessert. I ordered the chocolate fritters which were 3 marble sized deep fried chocolates with a crusty coating and a little sorbet. They must have fried fish or shrimp in the same oil since that is what it tasted like. It was awful. This place is extremely overrated and I would not recommend it to anyone.

This is probably one of the best restaurant I went to in Chicago! Ambiance was amazing and the food was so delicious! My favorite is the scallops dressed with cornmeal! I will definitely come back next time I am in town!

Wow. And no, not in a good way. The food was not cooked poorly but prepared poorly; under-seasoned,bland, tasteless. The crowd; as bland as the food. The space; excellent if you are a minimalist. The service however was outstanding. In short, worth every penny if it were free (and one had never eaten here before).

My date and I had originally planned to dine at the wonderful Avec next door and were dressed appropriately for the scene there (very casual, nice jeans and a jacket). Unfortunately, we arrived too late and they were only seating one group before closing time. The hostess at Avec told us we'd have no problem getting a table at Blackbird's and having a nice meal there. Well - we walked in and were immediately out of sorts when we noticed that almost every guy was a spitting image of an Andy Warhol with their black Wayfarer's and black dinner jackets. It was an awkward situation . We didn't have any problem being seated, but I can tell that our "apparel" didn't please the snooty waitress assigned to our table (who btw, had a black eye and looking at her nearly put off my appetite) and when we had a few questions about the menu she would answer in a very sarcastic way. The positive: our food was great - small - but great with a beautiful presentation. When our waitress forgot our espresso order (mind you that we were 1 of 3 tables left) I asked for the manager and he immediately came over and comped our espressos and even brought dessert wines. I guess you have to bring it to their attention that the customer is always right. I hope future patrons have a better experience or that they have better trained their staff.

Came here for my b-day and was surprised that it's been rated so well. The food was ok...very small portions as expected, but high-priced for 'just ok.' The scene was nothing to write home about either. The tables were practically staked on top of each other...about 2 inches apart. Tiny space with nothing on the walls, nothing romantic about this place. Our waiter was pleasant and brought me a shawl for our outdoor dinning when the sun went down. Overall, wouldn't go back and it's not even worth saying that we've been there. Oh well.

after reading some of the earlier reviews i was a little worried our anniversary dinner wouldn't be so great. BUT we were surprised. Our server, I think his name was David, was very attentive yet did was not over bearing. He asked us questions about what kind of wine we like, he listened and brought us a bottle we absolutely loved. Service was superb, right down to the plate presentation. My husband works in the industry and I am a veteren, so we know when we get good service and this was a definite. Food was delicious. Interesting flavor combinations. Some of the reviews said this place was pretentious, absolutely not. Would go back and recommend to others.

I was very excited to try this restaurant out, as I heard it was one of the best in the city. When I walked in, it was nothing like I though it was going to be. The restaurant was super small and the lights were so bright. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Not my favorite but someplace you should try.

I have heard mixed reviews about Blackbird for some time now. I figured it had to be pretty good since it has been around for a while. I have been to many restaurants in Chicago, it is very rare for me to want to leave as bad as I did last night. When we asked if there were any specials for the night our waitress replied ?what you see is what you get? We proceeded to order and the waitress came back and said they were out of two main dishes and one appetizer. The atmosphere is cold and the room is extremely noisy. The food wasn?t bad by any means, however for what we paid, there are so many better restaurants around Chicago that treat you like a customer should be treated

Today Team Splashi experienced true casual/classic dinning at Blackbird located on:

619 W Randolph St
Chicago, IL 60661
(312) 715-0708 .

This place is so fare the closest you will get to the European dining with out leaving ?second city?.

Team Splashi had ?braised octopus with fresh hummus , charred ramps, sesame brittle and chickpeas.

This is appetizer and it is really small portion of food, so we had to get us ?seared white fish sandwich, with lemon and great homemade potato salad. This one was teasty.

Team Splashi had great experience at this elegant yet casual restaurant , which btw has big wine list to choose from, we hope that you too will have time to experience this great place.

Bon appetite.

There is nothing worse than mediocrity that considers itself excellence. I went there after hearing that the food was great. It was so loud even for a sat night. I could barley hear my date. Not to mention that after you order that that will be the last time you see your waiter. Was the food good? Yes, but not excellent. And because of the crappy service it was not worth the 150 I spent. I would not recommend.

We waited 20 minutes while looking at open tables, then neglected the whole meal. If we were inside, maybe the service would have been better, but we didn't have a reservation. The food wasn't worth the money or the service. A restaurant of this calibur should know how to take care of their customers. No one even asked if our food was good.

was running 10 min late for a 8PM reservation. Tried calling the restaurant for 45 minutes and no one bothered to pick up the phone. Got there, they were running 45 minutes behind on their 7:30PM reservations so they said that it could be an hour wait. What's the point of making a reservation if the system doesn't work? It was packed so they must be doing something right, but I have no intention of going back because I can't deal with their pretentious staff.

I came to Blackbird with several friends and family for my birthday and thought it was AMAZING! The food was great, the wine was great, and the atmosphere was great! The only thing that was not great was our aloof, uninterested waitress. I would go back for a romantic dinner or for an occasion any time!

I have only been here once for my birthday. This restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine with very clean and simple, presenations. I went here for my b-day and had a wonderful experience. The portions are very small but you definitely savor each bite and leave feeling satisified. I tried the hen and the pork and we started with scallops. It was excellent! The service was impeccable and we felt very well taken care of. Never did we have to ask for a refill on our water.

I have to say I was a bit skeptical after reading reviews online. I didn't know if we were in for a great meal, or a noisy night of pretension.
After reading the menu I was really worried - some of the ingredients sounded good, but they were combined in such a way that I wouldn't normally choose any of the items.
The food proved me wrong. Two things stand out: an artichoke bisque with incredibly tender pieces of smoked duck, and the small handmade pumpkin spice donuts served warm with ice cream. The main course was also awesome.
Overall, the food was outstanding!

The hype is sorely misplaced. Despite its clean and minimalist interior, you are assaulted when you walk in by the pungent aromas from the kitchen. Which is probably not a bad idea because you wouldn't want to smell what you're eating. The food tends to be either thrown together with little attention to flavors or sitting on a pot somewhere for too long. To top it off, the service makes you feel like you're on the conveyor belt of dining.

The naysayers can stay home! This place takes care of the customer, serves original, fresh and tasty food, and has never disappointed me. If my 65 year old mother-in-law can see past the noise to the great food and cocktails then it shouldn't be a factor.

The concierge at our hotel made reservations at Blackbird for us for our anniversary. What a complete dolt he was. The place is stark and ugly. The noise level is deafening. The tables ares so close together it resembles a bar. I have no opinion on the food because we fled the place almost as soon as we arrived. The menu looked pretty limited though.

Excellent! One of very few 5 stars I've given. Only weak point was mixed drinks were a little lacking. But 5 of us came to eat. Come late, then noise level wasn't too bad. Seared Maine diver scallops salad, boneless pork chop, venison, and desserts. All delicious! Not for the financially squeamish. Good wine selection.

P.S. Chef Paul is one of the nicest chefs I have met. And I met most of the really well known chefs in Chicago
